Ayan Mukherjee directed a fanstastic film Brahmastra. All the actors Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bacchan, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, Nagarjuna and others did fabulous acting. Brahmastra did 250 crore business in 15 days and 140 crores business in foreign markets. It is heading towards greatest bollywood blockbuster of 2022.

In ancient India, a group of sages in the Himalayas collide with the energy Brahm-shakti, which produces many celestial weapons of great power called astras. The strongest among them, the Brahmāstra, carries the capacity to destroy the world. The sages use their respective astras to control the Brahmāstra and become the Brahmānsh, a secret society to protect the world from the powers of astras. In present-day Mumbai, Shiva a disc jockey, falls in love at first sight with Isha Chatterjee, a London resident who is visiting India for the Durga Puja festival at her grandfather's pandal. Soon, Isha reciprocates his feelings for her. Shiva tells her that he is an orphan who never knew his father, and his mother died in an accident when he was a baby. Meanwhile, in Delhi, Mohan Bhargav is attacked by Zor and Raftar for a piece of Brahmāstra he owns. Mohan manages to disguise it inside his Mayāstra before escaping by using the Vanārastra. When he returns to retrieve the piece, he is captured by Junoon, who works for the mysterious Dev. Under Junoon's possession, Mohan reveals that the second piece is protected by an artist and archaeologist named Anish Shetty in Kashi. The third piece is with Guru, the current leader of the Brahmānsh. Before he can reveal the location of Brahmānsh (Āshram), Mohan commits suicide. Shiva sees a vision of Mohan's encounter with Junoon. He and Isha head for Kashi to warn and save Anish but are interrupted by Raftar, who now wields Vānarāstra. Anish defeats him using the Nandiāstra before escaping with Shiva and Isha. While going to Himachal Pradesh, where Āshram is located, they are chased by Junoon and Zor in a truck. Anish gives the second piece of the Brahmāstra to Shiva and stays to fight Junoon and Zor, only to be killed. Shiva and Isha are chased by Raftar to Āshram where Shiva kills him using the Agnyāstra after he tried to kill Isha. At Āshram, they learn about other astras and Shiva is forced to join Brahmānsh by Guru for the information of his parents. He meets other newly recruits Rani, Raveena, Sher and Tensing who are all trained by Guru on how to use their respective astras and Shiva also gains control over fire. As Junoon gets closes to them, Guru reveals that Shiva is the son of former Brahmānsh members, Dev and Amrita. Dev actually awoke the Brahmāstra as he was the only person, who was able to control multiple astrās at once. Amrita (pregnant with Dev's child), who wielded the Jalāstra defeated him in a battle on a remote island and both of them seemingly perished from the battle. Amrita's boat was found in the ruins of the battle, brought back from the island, with two broken pieces of the Brahmāstra. The pieces of the Brahmastra were given to both Mohan and Anish. The third piece was believed to be missing, with Amrita concluding that they both survived. The third piece of the Brahmāstra is in Amrita's Mayāstra disguised into a conch shell which Shiva unknowingly releases it after his blood drops on the conch. Junoon and her army arrive at Āshram for Brahmāstra and hostages everyone. Shiva defeats Junoon while also killing Roz, who wielded Nandi Astra and releases everyone. But Junoon managed to take the third piece from Isha. She seemingly sacrificed herself to activate Brahmāstra. The destruction starts to begin but Shiva gains control over the Brahmāstra with the 'power of love', reuniting with Isha. Before the credits, due to Junoon having activated the Brahmāstra, Dev, who was imprisoned as a statue on an unknown island, is released. Cast Amitabh Bachchan as Raghu, the current leader of the Brahmānsh, Guru of recruited members and wields the Prabhāstra. Ranbir Kapoor as Shiva, an orphan and newly recruit member of the Brahmānsh, who possesses the power of the Agnyastra, (the astra of fire) within himself. Production Development The idea of Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva first came to Mukerji in 2011 while writing the script for his second film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.[20] Mukerji first announced that he was working on a new project in July 2014.[21] At the time, the film was titled Dragon.[22] In October 2017, Brahmāstra was officially announced by producer Karan Johar. Mukerji was signed as the director while Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were set to star. Initially, the film's title was rumoured to be Dragon but was later confirmed as Brahmāstra. Mukerji explained that the title Brahmāstra "resonates with the ancient wisdom, energies and power."[23] Mukerji also revealed that it is a "contemporary film with ancient elements."[24] In 2017, Johar revealed his plan to make the film into a film trilogy.[25][26] The preparation for the film started in January 2018.[27] In an interview, Kapoor stated that Mukerji "has spent six years of his life working really hard to make an original story" and that the trilogy would be made over a period of 10 years[28] and refuted rumours suggesting that it is a romantic superhero film. Instead, Kapoor confirmed that the film is a "romantic-fairytale in a supernatural format". and that the film is not something which "doesn't have truth to it, or which is unbelievable".[28] Nagarjuna Akkineni also confirmed that he would be playing a "pivotal" role.[29] Mouni Roy revealed in an interview that she is the "only antagonist" in the film.[30][31] In June 2022, Mukerji announced the film would be a part of a trilogy franchise – serving as the first instalment – under the Astraverse, a cinematic universe centered around various mystical astras.[32][33] In August 2022, Roy confirmed Shah Rukh Khan had a cameo appearance in the film.[34] Pre production Ayan Mukherjee started work nine years before the theatrical release. Pre-production work started in 2014, filming began in 2017.[35] In February 2018 Amitabh Bachchan, Kapoor did look tests in the presence of Mukerji.[36] Themes In July 2022, a video was released featuring Mukerji explaining the mystical universe of various astras.[37] He explained how from the Brahm-Shakti, astras were born, which compose all the different energies that are found in nature like Jalāstra (water), Pawanāstra (wind), and Agnyastra (fire). He also talked about astras that store the powers of different animals like the Vanarāstra, which can give the power of a "divine" monkey to the person who controls it, and the Nandiāstra, which contains the power and strength of a thousand bulls, within itself. The last āstra to emerge from the universe, carrying the collective power of the Brahm-Shakti – called the "lord of all the āstras" – is explained to be one of the most powerful celestial weapons of gods (or Devas) in Hindu mythology, the Brahmāstra.[38] Mukerji stated that the core idea was inspired by stories of Hindu mythology he heard in his childhood from his grandfather.[39] Characters Mukerji revealed that the inspiration behind actor Kapoor's character came from Rumi who also inspired the first look of his character. Mukerji also drew inspiration from Rumi's work: "love is the bridge between you and everything", to build the foundation of the film. Later, he revealed that the Rumi-inspired look was scrapped and Kapoor had gotten a haircut instead.[40] Kapoor revealed his experience with look tests for the film, expressing that it is a "tedious job: sticking, removing applying, de-applying, and applying again, until some decision is reached".[41] Filming Principal photography began in February 2018 with the commencement of the first schedule of the film on 24 February 2018. The first schedule of the film was wrapped up in Bulgaria on 24 March 2018.[42] The second schedule of filming continued in said country and then London on 8 July 2018,[43] in New York in late July,[44] and then back in Bulgaria by the end of the month.[45][46] Extensive shooting started on 1 February 2019 at Edinburgh, Scotland.[47] The 20-day schedule started in the Ramnagar Fort and Chet Singh Fort in Varanasi on 30 July 2019.[48] The filming was halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic,[49] and later resumed in November 2020.[50][51] Filming wrapped up on 29 March 2022 in Varanasi.[52] After S. S. Rajamouli's father, K.V. Vijayendra Prasad, proposed some changes in the film to Mukerji, reshoots were conducted for four days.[53] With a production budget of ₹410 crore (US$51 million), the film is one of the most expensive Indian films and the most expensive Hindi film ever at the time of its release.[7] Post-production In the post-production, it is estimated that 150 crore Indian rupees spent on VFX by makers.[54] The VFX work of this film is done by DNEG- Prime focus company. Editing was supervised by Prakash Kurup. Jam8 music and sound design studio lead by Pritam provided sound effects. VFX studio DNEG and ReDefine's foreign team created visual effects. Chiranjeevi gave the voice-over for the Telugu version.[55] Ranbir and Alia Bhatt did their dubbing portion in September 2020 in a studio in Bandra.[56] Music Main article: Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva (soundtrack) The film score is composed by English composer Simon Franglen[57] while the soundtrack score is composed and written by Pritam and produced and mixed by British musician Steel Banglez,[58] with songs written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film will do business of more than 100 crores. But it will not be a blockbuster. Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma had done well in the romantic roles. But the direction of Imitiaz Ali had fallen short. He could not match upto the expectations of people who watched his previous film Jab We Met. Shahrukh Khan still retained his romantic looks after being in the industry for more than 25 years. But he has not left his comfort zone which was romance. While Salman Khan in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tubelight had shown image breaking characters, Amir Khan had experimented in films like Dangal, Shahrukh Khan should re-invent himself to do challenging roles. Anushka did a great job. Imtiaz Ali had shot the film in brilliant countries like Hungary, Holland, Austria, but could not show romantic landscapes. The music of Pritam was average. Only the song “banu mai teri radha” sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Shahid Mallya was melodious. Jab Harry Met Sejal is a 2017 Indian romantic comedy film written and directed by Imtiaz Ali. It features Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles, their third collaboration after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012). Pre-production of the film begun in April 2015 and principal photography commenced in August 2016 in Prague, Amsterdam, Vienna, Lisbon and Budapest. The film starts with Harinder "Harry" Singh Nehra (Shah Rukh Khan) working as a tourist guide. Harry is a cheap womanizer but a friendly and helpful guide. After dropping a Gujarati family to the airport, Harry comes across Sejal Zaveri (Anushka Sharma), a member of the same Gujarati family, who has lost her engagement ring. Harry agrees to help her find her ring. Harry later tells Sejal that he had left his home in Nur Mahal village and came to Canada to become a singer, which did not work out. Both Harry and Sejal travel to places where Harry had initially taken the family, in search of the ring. During this, Harry falls in love with Sejal but does not reveal it to her as she's engaged to someone else. They soon learn that a criminal named 'Gas' has stolen the ring. They go to Gas to retrieve the ring but Harry gets thrashed by Gas' men. Later, while looking for antiseptics in her bag for Harry, Sejal finds the ring and realizes that the ring was in her bag all along. However, she keeps this to herself. The next day, they fly to Frankfurt for the wedding of Mayank, Harry's friend. After the wedding, Harry and Sejal get into an argument and Sejal decides to leave for India. At the airport, Sejal shows Harry the ring and tells him that it was in her bag all along. Harry asks her to take care and bids her goodbye. Sejal returns to India and Harry returns to work. Harry begins to miss Sejal and gets depressed. On Mayank's insistence, Harry flies for Mumbai to go to Sejal's wedding. On reaching the venue, Harry learns that Sejal's marriage was called off and finds Sejal sitting outside. They eventually share their feelings for each other, and go to Harry's village, Nur Mahal, where Harry reunites with his family and marries Sejal.

Atif Aslam is back with a bang.

Singer Atif Aslam is back with successful song “be imtihah” in film Race 2. The film had been the first bollywood film on 2013 to cross the 100 crores mark. The song had been picturized on Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in the film Race 2. When he sang the song “wo lamhe” in the film Zeher in 2005, he created an impression in Indian films with his stylish singing. The style was appreciated with the song “pehli nazar me aisa jadoo kar diya” in the film Race in 2008. At that time he became popular as a singer in India. Pritam composed the music of the film. He followed it up with the song “bakhuda tumhi ho’ in the film Kismat Connection. 2009 was the most successful year of Atif Aslam. He sang hit songs one after the other. His voice suited Ranbir Kapoor a lot in the film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani. All the songs including “tera hone laga hoon” with Alisha Chinoy and song “tu jaane na” became bumper hit. The film also became super hit. 2010 and 2011 were lean years for Atif Aslam. Although he sang songs in the film Prince and Faltu, the songs did not create any impact. In 2012, his song “piya ore piya” with Shreya Ghoshal became super hit. It was picturized on Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia Desouza in the film Tere Naal In 2013, his songs in the film Race 2 already created storms. He sang the song “be imtihah” with Sunidhi Chauhan. He also sang the song “allah duhai hai” with Vishal Dadhlani and Anushka Manchanda. His music albums Jalpari, Doori and Meri Kahaani are very popular in India. He also adjudicate musical rounds in the music competition Sur Kshetra along with other judges like Asha Bhosle, Runa Laila, etc. The Indian composers like Pritam, Salim Sulaiman, Vishal Shekhar should use him frequently because his style of singing is unique.

Agent Vinod had been a great project of Saif Ali Khan but not undertood by majority of people.

But the Indian viewers could not understand the complicated plot. It had been directed by Sriram Raghavan. It had been produced by Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan. Pritam composed the music of the film. In the film it had been shown that Saif Ali Khan was Agent Vinod. He was interrogated by Shahbaz Khan, an ISI official in a Taliban Camp in Afghanistan. Saif Ali and Ravi Kissan fought out their way and escaped from the Talibans and returned with a girl Maryam Zakaria. Saif Ali went to Moscow and then Morocco. He met Kareena Kapoor who was a British Pakistani who worked for ISI. He came to know about 242 a detonator for nuclear service. Adil Hussain killed Kareena Kapoor in New Delhi. Saif Ali Khan got the bomb and took it in a helicopter to diffuse it but never know the password. Dying Kareena Kapoor told Saif Ali to try the name of Kazan’s (Prem Chopra)’s camel. Saif Ali Khan succeeded in detonating the bomb. Dhritiman Chatterjee was found the person and the brain behind the attack. A suicide bomber Arif Zakaria was send who killed Dhritiman Chatterjee. At the end of the film it was shown that Saif Ali Khan had gone for a new mission. The direction was good. The performance of Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Dhritiman Chatterjee was excellent. But the plot was so complicated that the ordinary cinelovers hardly understood the film. The song “pungi” sung by Mika Singh, Amitabh Bhattacharya became popular. The film is destined to do mediocre business. Viewers should watch it.

Players will do moderate business.

Abhishek Bacchan, Bipasha Basu in Players Abbas Mustan’s crime thriller film Players that had been released on 6th January will do moderate business. Pritam had composed the music of the film. The film was made with a budget of 45 crores. The main roles were given to Abhishek Bacchan, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vinod Khanna. There were supporting roles played by Bobby Deol, Omi Vaidya, Johnny Lever and Sikander Kher. The film had been related to theft of gold from a train in Russia. The hackers, the magicians and others’ help was required. Everyone contributed in the operation. But Neil Nitin Mukesh betrayed. He killed Bobby Deol. Bipasha Basu pretended to have been shot by Neil Nitin Mukesh, but later colluded with him. At the end Abhishek Bacchan identified them in New Zealand with the help of Sonam Kapoor, Sikander Kher and Omi Vaidya. Johnny Lever, a car maker helped them for getting cars made of different materials. Sonam Kapoor killed Neil Nitin Mukesh at the end of the film. The music of Pritam in the film had not been impressive. Excepting the song “dil yeh bekarar kyun hai” sung by Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal, none of the other songs impressed the viewers. Vinod Khanna lost weight, yet impressed with his performance. Bipasha Basu and Abhishek Bachhan did well. But Sonam Kapoor did not rise up to the occasion to match the stylish character. Abbas Mustan had given super hit films in the past like Soldier and Ajnabee with Bobby Deol. It was very surprising that this time he had underused Bobby Deol. Bobby Deol had always given quality performances in stylish roles. The other factor was that the operation was too technical. There are chances of the film doing well oversees. But the Indian audience had not adjusted themselves to too technical subject matter. The plot was good and the execution very stylish. Even after the great effort the film is likely to do moderate business.

Can Salman Khan’s film Ready repeat the magic of Dabaang. In 2011 this is Salman Khan’s first film to be released. The date of release had been 3rd June, 2011. The expectation of the viewers had increased after Salman Khan had provided 150 crores business to bollywood industry with the film Dabaang last year.

Ready has been directed by director Aneez Bazmee. Asin had been cast opposite Salman Khan in the film. The film had been a remake of Tamil film Ready directed by Sreenu Vaitla in which Ram and Genelia Desouza played notable roles.

The supporting roles had been performed by Arya Babbar, Paresh Rawal, Mahesh Manjrekar and others. Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Kangana Ranaut, Zarine Khan played guest roles in the film. The music had been composed by composer Pritam. Already the song “humko pyar hua” had been well received by the viewers even before release of the film. The film had been shot in Sri Lanka.

The big challenge the film has to recoup the Rs 55 crores that had been invested. Dabaang had a very unique storyline. The casting also was new. Sonakshi Sinha acted opposite Salman Khan for the first time. Pritam has huge challenge to meet the success of Sajid Wajid in Dabaang. Last year Aneez Baazmee’s film No Problem could not get revenue inspite of star performers like Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt providing successful performances.

The film will be released on 3rd June, 2011. The bollywood industry is desperately waiting for a blockbuster this year. Nothing can be better if Salman Khan comes up with one more with Ready.

Anil Kapoor’s new film No Problem which is slated to release on 10th December, 2010, should get a good opening. The film had been directed by Aneez Bazmee. He had directed other super hit films in the past including No Entry. Anil Kapoor deserved a whole-hearted response from the audience because he had been an institution by himself in respect of comedy films. Most of those films did excellent business including Mr. India, Ram Lakhan, Jamai Raja, No Entry. The list can go on. In many terms he had remained a very underrated actor inspite of showing his versatility in every type of role including action based characters, romantic roles and comedy roles. Besides, after Dilip Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar, he had been one of the actors who concentrated more on the depiction of the character rather than the beauty and glamour as done by the majority actors. None of his characters played till now have any similarity. His performance in Tezaab, had no similarity with that of Ishwaar, or that of 1942 – A Love Story.

In No Problem, Akshay Khanna and Sanjay Dutt were bank robbers. While they robbed a bank in a village, the bank officer, namely Paresh Rawal got involved too. Anil Kapoor played the role of investigating officer who had handled many crooks in his life. He got married to Sushmita Sen. She had been the daughter of the Commissioner of Police played by Shakti Kapoor. Sushmita Sen had played the role of a split personality.

On one moment she had been a caring mother and wife. On the other moment she inclined to kill her husband. Anil Kapoor was inclined to chase Sunil Shetty who was alleged to have stolen diamonds. On the other hand, Paresh Rawal searced for Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Khanna to prove his innocence.

Akshay Khanna fell in love with Kangana Ranaut, who was the younger sister of Sushmita Sen. Akshay Khanna and Sanjay Dutt committed a last robbery in a minister’s house. But Sunil Shetty reached the house after both Akshay Khanna and Sanjay Dutt left. He could not find the diamonds and tortured the minister. The rest of the film hovered around the concept of how the investigators caught the crooks.

The performance of Anil Kapoor, SanjayDutt, Paresh Rawal and Akshay Khanna had been excellent. Sushmita Sen was brilliant in the films Maine Pya Kyun Kiya and Do Not Disturb. She did even better in this film. The music had been composed by Sajid Wajid, Pritam Chakravarty and Anand Raj Anand. The songs “no problem” sung by Wajid. Kamaal Khan, and others and “shakira” sung by Hard Kaur and Kalpana had been popular.

The film should do well.

Director Vipul Shah had experimented with an abstract subject in the film Action Replayy. But fortunately for him the screen presence and individual performance of Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar will make the film successful. His casting had been very meaningful.

In the film Aditya Roy Kapoor believed that if his parents’ marriage had been a love marriage, instead of arranged marriage then, his life would have been different. From his experience he could see that Akshay Kumar always had differences with Aishwarya Rai.

For those reasons he always ran away and avoided his girl friend Sudeepa Singh. He was asked by Sudeepa about his views on marriage. He developed a kind of apathy towards marriage. Just because his parents did not have cordial relationship, he thought that the root of major problems on earth includes marriage.

Sudeepa Singh’s grandfather Randhir Kapoor gave an ultimatum to Aditya Roy Kapoor. He told him that he failed to take a decision on marriage, he should forget his daughter. He stole his professor’s Time Machine to go the 1970s.

He continued turn time in the opposite direction. He wanted to convert his parent’s arranged marriage to love marriage. The entire film hovers around the theme in understanding the difficulty in doing so.

The music of Pritam had been impressive with hit songs like “baaki mai bhool gayi” sung by Shreya Ghoshal, “o bekhabar” sung by Shreya Ghoshal, “zor ka jhatka” sung by Daler Mehendi and Richa Sharma, “luk chup jaana” by Tulsi Kumar and KK.

The performance of Neha Dhupia, Om Puri and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the film had been brilliant. Akshay Kumar had been energetic and lively as ever. Aishwarya Rai had just gained beauty with attainment of age. She is looking even more gorgeous in her late 30s. The film should do well.

Director Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3 is more hilarious than Golmaal 1 and 2. The film had been shot in Goa. In the film Mithun Chakravarty and his sons were involved in scams involving fake history question papers.

When Mithun Chakravarty reprimanded them for selling fake question papers to students, Arshad Warsi said that he was going to teach the students never to take short cuts. His other two brothers namely Tushar Kapoor and Kunal Khemu helped him in executing the scam.

Within short distance, brothers Ajay Devgan and Shreyas Talpade with friend Kareena Kapoor ran a water-rides business. They clashed with Arshad Warsi and men when they did the same business on the beach.

The characteristics of Ajay Devgan, Tushar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Shreyas Talpade, part of the team of Golmaal returns were retained. Some fresh characteristics were also created in this film. Kareena Kapoor hurled abused at frequent intervals in the film. Shreyas Talpade stammered in the film. Tushar Kapoor continued his language ‘a-i-o’.

Johnny Lever did well in his role of a patient of lost memory. Sometimes he at one point he thought he was a thief, at other time he thought Ajay Devgan was a bus conductor. Mithun Chakravarty did his part very well. The other actors and actresses including Arshad Warsi, Ajay Devgan, Sheyas Talpade and Kareena Kapoor had played comedy roles in tandom at one time. So the performance in this film is not that challenging for them.

Pritam’s music was fine with impressive songs like “apna har din” sung by Anushka Manchanda and Shaan, “desi kaali” sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Neeraj Shreedhar. All the films directed by Rohit Shetty relating to Golmaal series did great business. Golmaal 3 is also expected to do better business with the star cast and powerful performances.

The contractors who take up road projects are always subjected to criticism. Priyadarshan had given a message to what type of substandard material they provide while making the roads. The strategy is to make weak roads deliberately and thereafter expecting the roads to break. Once they are damaged the same development contract again reverts back to the same contractor.

While the subject matter is serious in nature, Priyadarshan had presented it in a very light-hearted manner. He had directed the film Vellanakalude Nadu in 1989 with the same subject matter. In that way, the film was a remake of the earlier one. Akshay Kumar had performed very well in the role of the assistant of Akshay Kumar. Especially in the scene where they tried to clean the house of Asrani before the eve of a family function, the entire act was very hilarious. Even Johnny Lever’ s attempt for repairing a road roller also was hilarious.

Pritam had composed the music of the film. He had previously provided catchy numbers in Priyadarshan’s films like Billu Barber. Urvashi Sharma, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever and Asrani had played significant roles in the films aside Akshay Kumar and Trisha Krishnan.

Akshay Kumar is a brilliant start in the year with the success of the film Housefull. Although the film a number of stars together like Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone, Ritesh Deshmukh, yet the credit for the success primarily to Akshay Kumar. He required hit films desperately, as his last year was very average with flop films like Chandni Chowk to China, Kambakht Ishq, 8*10 Tasveer, De Dana Dan, etc.

Atif Aslam is probably the most stylish singer of the present age after Sonu Nigam. Sonu Nigam also had the nomination for the song “all is well” but he lost it to Shaan for the performance in the same film.

The best female singer award went to Kavita Seth for her song in the film Wake Up Sid. It was a welcome surprise. Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chouhan used to dominate the scene. They were in the nominations for their performances in the film The Three Idiots and Love Aaj Kal. These days new singers like Rekha Bharadwaj, Shilpa Rao and others create high competition in the bollywood arena.

The best actress award was won by Kareena Kapoor for The Three Idiots and Vidya Balan for Paa. Both are great artists and deserved the award. Hrithik Roshan’s grandfather J. Om Prakash was felicitated for lifetime contribution to bollywood films. He had made romantic films like Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Aye Din Bahar Ke, Aap Ki Kasam, Aasha, etc. Hrithik Roshan gave the award to the legendary filmmaker. Omi Vaidya received the award for the best male debutant for his performance in the film The Three Idiots.

The best supporting actress award went to Divya Dutta for her performance in the film Dilli 6. The program had been elegantly hosted by Boman Irani and Ritesh Desmukh. Composer Pritam Chakravarty, better known as Pritam has more responsibility in 2010. He had competed against the classy composers of bollywood films like Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Vishal Shekhar, Anu Malik, A R Rehman, Salim Sulaiman, Sajid Wajid and created a name for himself within the short career. He is the son of Probodh Chakravarty who runs a music school in Kolkata.

Pritam got involved in a bangle band called Chandabindu and another band called Jotugriher Pakhi and became popular in Bengal with his musical experiments. He joined the Film and Television Institute in Pune and learned sound engineering and at that time he got an offer to compose music in a film made by Hungarian filmmaker Istvan Gaal.

He created a partnership with Chandrajeet Ganguly who is better known as Jeet and composed music for the film Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. Pritam stormed bollywood with his successful music for the film Dhoom after which did not have to look back.

He has been one of the judges of the Zee TV Saregamapa music competition and has been a familiar personality along with Shankar Mahadevan, Himesh Reshamiya, Adesh Srivastav, Aditya Narayan who are judges and conduct the program for the last few years.

In 2006, his music in the film Apna Sapna Money Money became super hit. Ritesh Deshmukh and Koena Mitra did well in the comedy film. Pritam’s composition for Amit Kumar titled “dekha jo tujhe yaar dil me baji guitar” became super hit. Pritam again struck box-office with his westernized tunes in the film Dhoom 2. The songs composed by him for Suniti Chauhan like “crazy kiya re” picturised on Aishwarya Rai and Hritik Roshan became super hit. All the songs of the film became extremely successful and the film did equally good business just like its music.

In 2010, Pritam got the assignment of composing tunes in 13 films. That is the reason where he has to show his class. He has to balance the quality of music with the quantity. Some of his films had already being released like Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, Toh Baat Pakki, Badmash Company. Most of these films received good reviews and the music was also well accepted by the audience.

But the other films are yet to be released like Rajneeti, Khatta Meetha, Golmaal 3, Run Bhola Run, Har Pal, Action Replay, etc. The viewers and listeners expect Pritam to do justice to his name and continue to compose the soft romantic numbers which had swung the hearts of the teenagers in the last few years.

Four youngstars namely Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Meiyang Chang and Vir Das wanted to start a business after graduation. Their idea was to smuggle foreign goods and bring them in India and avoid heavy import duty.

Initially they did business in Bangkok. Then they did business in America. Shahid Kapoor fell in love with Anushka Sharma. But due to differences first Chang left the company. Then Vir Das left the company too. Anushka Sharma did not like concealing of facts which was done by Shahid Kapoor. She left the company too.

Shahid Kapoor was later arrested and imprisoned for 6 months. After he came out of prison he led an honest life. Anushka was carrying Shahid Kapoor’s child and then mitigated the differences. Chang and Vir Das also returned. At the end of the film they started a public sector company named “friends and company”.

The music of the film had been composed by Pritam. Recently Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Vir Das and Chang came to Indian Idol show to promote their own film. The film Toh Baat Pakki should do good business. Director Kedar Shinde had relied upon comedy story for the success of his film. It had been produced by Ramesh S. Taurani.

Tabu had played an important role after a very long time. She played the role of a middle-class woman who had married Ayub Khan. She searched a rich and good person to get him married to her sister. Her sister again had a choice of her own.

She met Sharman Joshi who played the role of an engineer, in a grocery store. She allowed Sharman Joshi to stay in her own house so that he could meet her sister. He fell in love with the sister and agreed to marry her.

But when he sat in the seat of the bridegroom, he found a different girl. The film was full of comedy from the beginning till the end. There was lot of anxiety amongst the viewers to see Tabu perform, the last she was seen acting in a film was Cheeni Kum, which she did more than three years ago.

The music of the film had been composed by Pritam. The popular numbers included “jis din” sung by Mika Singh, “phir se” sung by Sonu Nigam and “karle mujhse pyar” sung by Pritam Chakravarty. The songs were not as catchy if compared to Pritam’s music in the film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani or Jab We Met.

The film received a passive response in its opening week. These days halls are flooded with comedy films. At some point of time the viewers will get sick seeing comedy one after the other. Even then the story of the film was good.

Further due to presence of veteran artists like Tabu, Ayub Khan, Sharman Joshi, the acting had been powerful. The film should get more viewers in the days to come.

The film Atithi Tum Kab Jayoge, does not have anything new. There has been a mindset of most of the directors these days that the moment they make a comedy film it will automatically be hit. There is no basis of this mindset. If in 2009, All The Best did great business, Do Not Disturb and De Dana Dan flopped.

Ashwni Dhar had been the director of the film. He had cast Ajay Devgan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal in the main roles. Warner Brother Pictures and Wide Frame Films had produced the film. In this film Ajay Devgan and Konkona Sen Sharma had a peaceful family.

But the appearance of Paresh Rawal in their house created the maximum amount of displeasure. He mentioned that he was a distant relative of the family and come from village. But the period of time for which promised to stay passed away. He never decided to leave the house.

He created annoyance of every type for the family. Ajay Devgan and Konkona Sen Sharma had tried every type of ploy to compel Paresh Rawal to leave the house. But he was adamant enough to act on their ploy. The character artists like Ritesh Deshmukh, Sanjay Mishra, Pradeep Rawat, Satish Kaushik did well in their respective roles.

The music had been composed by Pritam. The song “dohe” sung by Amit Misra and “aaja aaja” sung by Pritam had been popular. The other song “joti jalaile” sung by Vishal Bharatdwaj was not bad. But the film does not have the masala with which viewers can be drawn in to the cinema halls or persuaded to sit in the halls for three hours.

The acting of Paresh Rawal, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal had been fine. But if the script does not help the actors to that extent, the comedy punch at times become boring.

If the film does mediocre business it is more than enough for the director and producer.

Among the different songs composed by various composers and written by various lyricists in 2009, the ones composed by Pritam in the film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani appealed the most.

Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani had Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor acting together in a romantic role for the first time. So obviously the viewers had a lot of expectation from both of them. Atif Aslam and Alisha Chinoy had sung the song “tera hone laga hoon” which was probably the most romantic composition of 2009. It does not matter whether Pritam had received any filmfare award for the best composer, the award givers these days think that giving any award to AR Rehman increases their prestige after winning Oscar. Neither does it matter whether Atif Aslam or Alisha Chinoy wins any awards or not.

The lyrics of the songs were very catchy, especially the line “shining in the setting sun like a pearl upon the ocean come on feel me girl feel me”. The part sung by Alisha Chinoy titled “o aja tubhi mera mera” attaches the portion of Atif Aslam titled “tera hone laga hoon” in the film. The orchestration is very soft and the lyrics written by Irshad Kamil is very meaningful.

The songs composed by Pritam in the film Jab We Met were equally romantic, which did not get the appreciation they deserved. Specially the song “tum se hi” had an everlasting in terms of the rhythm and melody. Soft numbers always have a lasting impression.

In that respect Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani reached the viewers and audiences through their songs even more than the performances of Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor which were decent as well. Pritam should get encouraged to compose more soft numbers in future.

The excellent lips of the actresses Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba had helped Ranbir Kapoor to maintain balance in the film. Besides, the exotic locations in the film were also appreciated by the viewers.

Wake Up Sid was a serious film and as such the music did not matter that much. Even then the music was very decent in the film. The performance of Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor was very realistic and that created a separate impression in the minds of the viewers.

Pritam did a grand job in the film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani. It had been the greatest hit of the career of Ranbir Kapoor. All the songs in the film became super hit. The leading song included “prem ki naiya”, etc. The onscreen chemistry of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif had made the viewers speechless. The viewers are looking forward to more hit songs in the upcoming films of Ranbir Kapoor in future.

Director Priyadarshan had come up with another hilarious film De Dana Dan, the sequel of Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri. He had used the same team of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, whom he had used in the films Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri.

In this film Akshay Kumar had been shown as a butler, cook, personal attendant of rich industrialist in Singapore played by Archana Puran Singh. He had an affair with Katrina Kaif. Akshay Kumar’s friend Sunil Shetty came to Singapore to become rich but ended up being a courier delivery person. He had an affair with Sameera Reddy who was a rich girl but whose parents wanted her to get married to only a rich person.

In the meantime Paresh Rawal, who was a businessman, wanted to get Chunkey Pandey married to Sameera Reddy so that, he can get lot of money in dowry as Sameera Reddy was very rich.

Both Sunil Shetty and Akshay Kumar planned to kidnap a person to recover ransom. In that way they could get quick cash and impress their girlfriends. But things went wrong just like other Priyadarshan movies and the chaos leads to comedy instances.

Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty again did a brilliant job. The music of Pritam had rocked bollywood even before the film had been released. Some of the hit songs include “paisa” sung by Selina, Manak E, etc., “gale lag ja” sung by Javed Ali and Ban Jyotsna, “hotty naughty” sung by Sunidhi Chauhan.

The exotic location of Singapore is going to create special attention for the viewers. Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy brought out their comedy instincts in style.
