Bappi Lahiri – the successful composer of bollywood.

Bappi Lahiri, the son of famous Bengali singer and composer Aparesh Lahiri, created an identity of his own with his compositions in the 80s and 90s. His father was a legendary singer in Bengal, and also had given memorable tunes including “akbar biday dema” sung by Lata in the Bengali film on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Bappi could play a number of instruments including the tabla and showed his variation in composition in Uttam Kumar’s Bengali film Ogo Bodhu Sundari. When he joined bollywood films he made his mark in the film Zakhmee, where Sunil Dutt and Asha Parekh.

His songs in the film Kisi Se Na Kehna also became successful, where Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval played the main roles. Bappi was extremely successful with his tunes in the film Namakhalal, where Kishore’s song “ki pag ghungroo” became superhit. He also gave hit songs in Disco Dancer, where Mithun Chakravarty played a leading role.

Bappi was very successful in the film Sharabi, where songs picturised on Big B, like “imteha ho gayi” sung by Kishore Kumar became landmark hit. His other hit films during that period include Big B’s Greftaar, Akhree Rasta, etc.

He was highly successful in the film Himmatwala, where Jeetender and Sri Devi played the main part.

Bappi is also presently participating in the TV Program, K for Kishore as a judge with Amit Kumar and Sudesh Bhosle. New talents are given a scope to exhibit their skills in the program devoted to KK.

The viewers and audience expect Bappi to continue his good work in the years to come.
