Akshay Kumar had acted with most of the leading actresses of bollywood films in the last 10 years. Most of his films did good business whether they were related to action films, comedy films or romantic films. His combination with Katrina Kaif was also well accepted by the viewers.
The pair impressed the viewers with their effortless performance in the film Namaste London. Katrina Kaif was the daughter of Rishi Kapoor in the film who was born and brought up in London. Rishi Kapoor wanted her to get married to an Indian as he was sick of the materialistic culture of UK. He got Katrina Kaif married to Akshay Kumar, who was a Punjabi, and was his friend’s son. Katrina never accepted the marriage and after Akshay reached London, he came to know that Katrina was involved with another British person whom she wanted to marry. Akshay reformed Katrina and at the end of the film Katrina came to India with Akshay. Both Akshay and Katrina substantiated each other in their respective roles.
The same pair once again amused the viewers in the film Welcome. It was a comedy film where both the performers showed their comedy skills. It was a multi-starrer film with Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Nana Patekar, Mallika Sherawat and others playing very significant roles. Paresh Rawal wanted to get Akshay married to a decent girl. But he had an affair with Katrina without knowing that she was the sister of mafia dons who were not only notorious but also were involved with unlawful activities. Paresh Rawal had no other way but to get Akshay married to Katrina. It was a serio-comic film with all the actors and actresses substantiating each other. The music of the film became super hit. The landmark songs included “welcome”, “hot rasile”, etc.
The successful film of Akshay and Katria that was released in 2008, include Singh is Kinng. The film was related to the story of Akshay going abroad to reform one of his Punjabi friends and getting involved with Katrina who was a law student. The music given by Pritam just stormed bollywood films in the later months of 2008. The successful songs included “singh is kinng”, “dil kho gaya ho gaya”, etc. The locations in the film were also notable with major part of the film being shot in parts of Egypt.
Although Sharukh Khan had bagged the filmfare award for the best actor in 2007, it was Akshay Kumar who gave the maximum income tax which reflects the fact that he had provided best business to bollywood in the last 2 years. Producers and directors can launch the same pair in more films in future after considering their track record.
