Bappi Lahiri and KK combination did work also in the films of Mithun Chakravarthy. All the songs of the film Disco Dancer became super hit where Bappi Lahiri himself sang hit songs like “yaad aa rahai”, etc. The other hit films where Bappi Lahiri contributed well include Thanedaar, with Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit, where the song “tama tama loge” became very popular. Bappi Lahiri was very successful in his composition of music for Bengali films as well. His music in Uttam Kumar’s last film Ogo Bodhu Sundari became super hit. KK’s songs “ami ekjon santoshito”, “shikte tomai hobe”, etc., became very successful. The other hit Bengali films where Bappi Lahiri made valuable contribution include Guru Dakhina and Amar Sangi. The hit songs include “o amar gurudakhina”, “prithibi hariye geche”, “sangi, sangi”, “jekhanei thako”, etc. He sang the song “u lala u lala” in the film Dirty Picture. The film had reciprocated the great music trend of 1980s when Bappi himself composed music in films like Himmatwala. His father Aparesh Lahiri was a great singer and composer and from his he inherited the skills of music composition. His father sang notable songs in Bengali like “jhar”, “bhanga ei sampan”, and also composed songs in Bengali film Netaji Subhash Chandra Basu, where Lata sang the notable song “ekbar bidae de ma ghure ashi”. His mother Bansari Lahiri was also a famous singer. In the early 1970s, his film Zakhmee gave him recognition in 1975. His song for Lata “ayo tumhe chand pe le jaye” became hit. In the early 1980s, his music in the films of Mithun Chakravarty became super hit. He started the trend of disco songs in Indian films. In Mithun Chakravarty’s film Disco Dancer all the songs were composed on disco andaz like “I am a disco dancer, zindagi hai mera gaana”, “yaad a raha hai”, to name a few. Bappi Lahiri continued composing music in other films of Mithun like Dance Dance, Commando, and other films. On the other hand Bappi Lahiri’s music in Big B’s films like Namakhalal, Sharabi became bumper hit. All the songs like “ki pag ghungroo bandhke meera nachti”, “thori si jo peele hai” became smash hits. Bappi Lahiri rose in the league of the top music directors in the 1980s. Prasenjit Chatterjee and Rachana Banerjee invited celebrity couples in Zee Bangla Tumi Je Amar Program on 26th March, 2014. The celebrities included Bappi Lahiri and his wife Chitrani, Debojit Saha and his wife Bandana, Raja and his wife, and Mehtab and his wife. Bappi Lahiri came and sang the song “chirodini tumi je amar, jugejuge ami tomari”. It was his super hit songs composed and sung in Prasenjit Chatterjee’s super hit film Amar Sangi. In fact Prasenjit Chatterjee rose to fame with the success of Amar Sangi. Rachana Banerjee said there are a lot of actors who are indebted to the singers like Udit Narayan, Kumar Shanu, Sonu Nigam and others for their own success. In case of Prasenjit Chatterjee majority of his hit songs were composed and sung by Bappi Lahiri. In the second round East Bengal Soccer team captain Mehtab was asked which food he liked during jamai shashti. He said mutton curry, while his wife said Ilish bhape. Raja Sen was asked to hear 3 songs including “rani mai tu raja” from film Son of Sardaar, and “raja ko rani se pyar ho gaya”. When he and his wife was asked which song both of them preferred they said it was “raja ko rani se pyar ho gaya”. Both Raja and his wife selected “Raja ko rani se pyar ho gaya” for being a soft romantic number. When Debojit’s wife Bandana was interviewed she said she had faced a lot of struggle with Debojit. He had a secured job in Assam in Public Works Department. He left it and pursued a music career in Mumbai. During the struggling days Bandana continued her own job when Debojit did not get success. Then the Zee TV Saregamapa program came up and Debojit became a star overnight. When Prasenjit Chatterjee asked Bappi Lahiri which song he used to sing for his wife Chitrani. He said it was “pyar manga hai tumhi se”. Bappi Lahiri sang many of his own songs “u lala u lala”, “ulte debo sab palte debo” to name a few. Prasenjit Chatterjee and Rachana Banerjee anchored the program very well.

Bappi Lahiri came to the Zee Bangla Mirakkel Program on 5th August, 2013. He stole the show. He had answer for every questions in the form of songs. When the achor Mir Afsar Ali asked him what did Bappi Lahiri do when he had differences with his wife? He said he sang his own composed song “pyar manga hai tumhi se, na inkaar karo”. Mir, the participants and all the judges Srilekha Mitra, Paran Banerjee and Rajatavo Dutta laughed at his reply. The famous parody singer Subhashis Mukherjee sang songs composed and sung by Bappi Lahiri by changing the lyrics of those songs. Vicky danced on those songs. He picked and chose the hit songs of Bappi Lahiri. He sang “tolte tolte, pore gechi manhole khola dhakna” which was based on Bappi Lahiri’s composed song “chalte chalte mere yeh geet yaad rakhna kabhi alvida naa kehna”. Bappi Lahiri himself was very impressed with the effort. Subhashis Mukherjee also used Bappi Lahiri’s songs “tohfa tohfa tohfa, laya laya laya”, then “e amar gurudakkhina”. Vicky imitated the dance steps of Mithun Chakrvarty who had given lips in maximum songs of Bappi Lahiri. Bappi Lahiri said that he had composed songs for 4 generations. He composed songs in superstar Uttam Kumar’s film Ogo Bodhu Sundari, Prasenjit Chatterjee’s film Amar Sangi, numerous films of Mithun Chakravarty and many films of Deb. Mir said it proves the fact that composer never grows old. His songs are as young as can be mentioned. At the end of the show Bappi Lahiri came at the middle of the stage and sang his song “angna me baba duare me ma”. He said his father Aparesh Lahiri and mother Basabi Lahiri, both eminent singers of their times, were born and brought up in Pabna in Bangladesh. So gave his best wishes to those participants who came from Bangladesh to Kolkata to perform in Mirakkel 6 program. Bappi Lahiri also sang an English song that he composed for old people of England. He recorded the song in a studio of London and informed them about the song. He had composed songs for football worldcup also.

Legendary singer and composer Bappi Lahiri rocked Zee Bangla Mirakkel Program on 20^th December, 2011. He was the star of the show and the anchor Mir Afsar Ali gave him lot of love and respect.

Bappi Lahiri sang the song “ooh lala ooh lala” from the film Dirty Picture, which had been sung by Bappi Lahiri and Shreya Ghoshal. Everyone cheered at the song, as the song and the film both are doing excellent business.

Bappi Lahiri said that the compositions of the 80s were so popular that they are still sung today in cyclic order. He also sang the song “ek aankh marun to parda phat jaye”, which he was composed by him. He said even the song “yaad aa raha hai” from the film Disco Dancer, in 1982, had been used in the film Golmaal 3.

Vidya Balan gave the year’s best performance in the film Dirty Picture.

Every actor in the film including Naseeruddin Shah, Imran Hashmi, Tushar Kapoor and others gave brilliant performance, but as the role of Silk Smitha was depicted by Vidya Balan, her performance stood out amongst everyone’s performance. When the film was released there was no expectation of the film matching the success of Bodyguard or Ra One, but the effort of Vidya Balan and other required appreciation. The audience accepted the film as it has already done business worth 40 crores and still going very strong in different parts of India. It got the 5^th biggest opening in 2011.

Vishal Shekhar had composed music for the film. The song “ooh lala ooh lala” sung by Bappi Lahiri and Shreya Ghoshal became super hit. The story of Silk Smitha had been played by Vidya Balan. She acted opposite Naseeruddin Shah, who was a renowned actor in the film.

But he exploited her. She loved Tushar Kapoor, the brother of Naseeruddin Shah. He also did not have the guts to marry her. At the end of the film Imran Hashmi, the director who hated her for her erotic performances, fell in love with her.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Mithun Chakravarty on 16th June, 2009. He had contributed in bollywood films for more than 30 years and had also contributed in Bengali films as well.

He brought revolution in the world of dancing in bollywood films. His film Disco Dancer, was related to the struggle of a young man in establishing him in the world of dancing. The music of the film composed by Bappi Lahiri played a big role in the success of the film. All the songs in the film became super hit including “I am a disco dancer”. Kishore Kumar, (Bappi Lahiri’s own relative), and Bappi Lahiri contributed a lot in the success of Mithun Chakravarty.

Mithun Chakravarty acted in successful films in the 80s, including Dance Dance, Pyar Jhukta Nahi, etc. Some of films were dance oriented films, while the other ones were action oriented. Although Mithun’s husky voice was criticized at times, his action sequences had always been appreciated.

Mithun Chakravarty won a number of national awards for his excellence in Bengali films, mainly related to films of intellectual directors like Mrinal Sen and Buddhadeb Dasgupta. His performances in films like Mrigaya and Tahader Katha require special mention. At the same time he acted in many commercially hit films like Anyay Abhichar and Kalankini Kankabati.
