Reema Lamba, better known as Mallika Sherawat made her onscreen appearance in the music video titled Lak Tunno and then switched over to films. In 2003, she acted in the film Khwahish.

But she attracted the attention of the viewers with her performance in the film Murder, which was an adaptation of the film Unfaithful. The film was written by Mahesh Bhatt, directed by Anurag Basu, with Anu Malik providing hit songs.

In the film Murder, Mallika was a married girl, who got involved with another person played by Imraan Hashmi. Eventually Imraan Hashmi was killed and Mallika was accused for the murder of the person. But actually it was her husband who had killed Imraan Hashmi. The song “kaho na kaho” which was inspired from the Amr Diab’s song “tamaly maak” became very popular.

With hit films like pyar ke Side Effects, Aap Ka Suroor and Welcome, she had proved her acting capability and directors started casting her in strong roles in addition to item numbers. In 2008, her film Ugly Aur Pagli, opposite Ranvir Shorey, had been released. Ranvir shorey, an engineering student entered into an affair with Mallika. The story relating to the ill-tempered Mallika and the slavery of Ranvir had just been directed as a comedy film where the viewers can enjoy their interaction and witty moments.

In the film Khakee, she joined Big B’s team of police officers who were involved in a mission of escorting supposed terrorist Iqbal Ansari from Chandergarh to Mumbai.


The team included Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar and Tushar Kapoor who had experience and were brave enough to fulfill the mission. Before the team reached Mumbai they faced a number of encounters and in a serious encounter in a cottage near Mumbai the team was outnumbered. Akshay Kumar was also killed by Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgan. The viewers were surprised to see Aishwarya Rai in such a negative role.

In Dhoom -2, she acted again in a negative role opposite Hrithik Roshan, where both of them were international criminals involved in theft and other notorious activities. Abhishek Bacchan chased them and thought he had killed Hrithik Roshan. But it was play acting, as he later found both of them in a different country involved in a different occupation.


He left both of them after they disclosed the place where they did hide all the stolen property and assured him that they were living the life of law-abiding citizens. The viewers liked the role of Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai and they impressed the crowds even with their negative characters.

Other hit songs of Madhuri Dixit include “ek do teen”, from the film Tezaab. Also the songs from the film Dil, opposite Amir Khan including “hum pyar karne wale”, was successful in the early 90s. Madhuri gave adequate lips in the song “didi tera dewar diwana” opposite Salman Khan.

Madhuri Dixit also provided successful performance in the film Devdas, opposite Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the song ‘dil dola re”, where both Madhuri and Aishwarya performed together.

The songs in her film Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai, were all successful including “is pyar ko kya naam doon”, “maine koi jadu nahi kiya”, “mujhe kuch kehna hai”, etc. Tushar Kapoor, the son of Jeetender also complimented Kareena Kapoor in the film with his performance.

Her songs in the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, directed by Karan Johar became very successful. The songs like “kehdo na”, “kabhi khushi kabhi gham”, became superhits. Besides the presence of Sharukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan in the film also added variety of performances.

All the songs of the film Jab We Met, including “yeh ishq kya hai”, “dil mouja hai mouja”, all became successful and contributed in the success of the film. The performance of Shahid Kapoor opposite her is worth mentioning.

The songs in her off-beat film Chameli, titled “man saat samandar”, also got critics acclamation in the year when the film was released. She also gave lips in good songs in the film Ajnabee, where Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu and Akshay Kumar were the leading performers, besides her.

Soha Ali Khan, the daughter of Sharmila Tagore and sister of Saif Ali Khan had created an image for herself, within a short period of time. She started her career with the film Dil Maange More in 2004.

Dil Maange More was a serio-comic film where Shahid Kapoor wanted to get engaged with a genuine lover and ended up having affair with three women. Shahid Kapoor loved Soha Ali Khan who came to Mumbabi to be flight attendant. Shahid Kapoor followed her up and had an affair with Ayesha Takia.

Then he joins a music store named Planet M, and gets engaged with Tulip Joshi who also had weakness towards Shahid Kapoor. The story ended in a different note, but all the actresses proved their part in the film. Soha Ali Khan also got a chance of acting in the Bengali film Antarmahal where she played the role of oppressive zamindar played by Jackie Shroff during the British Raj. She was involved with a young person played by Abhishek Bachhan in the film.

Her other successful films include Rang De Basanti with Amir Khan, Shaadi No. 1 and Pyar Me Twist. In Shaadi No. 1, three friends led by Farden Khan were married to their wives, but Sanjay Dutt came in their life and exposed their weakness towards other women to their wives. Soha Ali Khan did well in the film.

Her other films include Ahista Ahista and Khoya Khoya Chand. She is busy in a number of films which are going to be released in 2008. The viewers expect her to continue her good work in future and carry forward the legacy created by her mother.

Juhi Chawla had a successful career in bollywood films in the late 80s and 90s and did well opposite most of the actors of bollywood. She had a good combination with Anil Kapoor, too.

In Jhoot Bole Cowa Kate, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, she played the role of the daughter of Amrish Puri. Anil Kapoor came to work in the house of Amrish Puri, so that he could contact his daughter. He told lies one after the other before Amrish Puri. He also asked his brother and his wife to tell lies before Amrish Puri.

Although the truth was unfolded and Anil Kapoor was rebuked by Amrish Puri, but he forgave him due to request of his wife. The songs that were picturised on Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla, became hits. Most of them were sung by Udit Narayan and composed by Anand Milind.

The film was the third version of Golmaal and Naram Garam where Utpal Dutt and amol Palekar played the leading roles. Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Amrish Puri and the other actors in the film tried to maintain the comedy impulse alive in the film in their own way and the film was successful.

Both of them did well in the film Deewana Mastana, where Govinda and came to Juhi Chawla for treatment. Anil Kapoor with the help of Johnny Lever tried out different ways to injure Govinda and all of their plans failed. The film was serio-comic in nature with funny instances at every point. The songs in the film were also successful.

Both of them also acted together in the film Salaam –e-ishq. It was a multi-starrer film with Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Khanna, John Abraham, Ayesha Takia, all doing well in their respective roles. The six couples were brought at the same place by fate and film was based on their relationship and the way in which each of them got connected with each other in course of time. The viewers expect both of them to act together in more films in future.

Nutan is one of the most sophisticated actresses who had remained sublime in her performances over three decades. In the 50s, she was used by eminent director Bimal Roy and Hrishikesh Mukherjee for playing complex roles which required depth of acting.

She played the role of insane person in the film Seema, who became insane due to social pressure but was reformed in the institution run by Balraj Sahani. The songs in the film composed by Shankar Jaikishan and sung by Rafi, Lata, Manna Dey, including “baat baat pe rutho na”, “kahan ja rahe ho”, “tu pyar ka sagar hai”, were immortal hits.

She amazed the viewers with her performance in the film Sujata and Bandini, directed by Bimal Roy, where she even expressed the feelings of a woman who commits crime due to provocation and spends time in prison. She brought tears in the eyes of viewers with her lips in the tragic songs composed by SD Burman. Songs like “jalte hai jiske liye”, “mora gora aang laile”, were very successful.


In Anari, opposite Raj Kapoor, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, she played the role of a rich arrogant girl who was touched by the innocence of a middle-class person played by Raj Kapoor. The songs in the film composed by Shankar Jaikishan, had created history, including songs like “banke panchi”, “kisi ki muskurahato pe ho nisar”, “sab kuch sikha humne”, “tera jana”, “yeh chand khila”, etc.

Nutan at the same time acted in hit commercial films like Laatsahab, opposite Shammi Kapoor, Tere ghar ke saamne, opposite Dev Anand, Milan, etc. She even acted in a mute role, in the film Karma, at the end of her career, opposite Dilip Kumar, where the terrorist activities had made her dumb. It was a difficult role and Nutan only had the potentiality to give right expression without dialogues.

Nutan had made notable contribution for more than 40 years in films and could adjust herself in any type of role including comedy role in Delhi ka thug, opposite Kishore Kumar. Her sophisticated style of performance cannot be highlighted in a small article, but the reference reminds people of the golden age where most of her films including Chaliya, Kanhaiya, Dil hi to hai, Paying guest, show her indispensability in the bollywood film industry.

Priyanka Chopra is one of the most promising actresses of the present time. She had shown her capability in performing in different types of roles. She initially acted in small roles in films like Hero opposite Sunny Deol, where the main role was played by Preeti Zinta, but became prominent with passing of time.

She had impressed the viewers with her dynamic performance in the film Don, opposite Shahrukh Khan. She was acting in the role which was originally played by Zeenat Aman in the original Don, played by Amitabh Bacchan and released in 1978. She had to show both her vengeance as she entered the gang of workers working for Don, only to kill him and take revenge for killing her brother. The moment she came to know, that the new Shahrukh Khan was not the original Don, but a dummy used by the police department to arrest all the criminals, she had to show romantic performance. She was sublime in both the parts and adjusted herself to the modern technology that was used in the new Don. The song “aaj ki raat” was very successful.


She had done well opposite Hithik Roshan in the film Krishh, which was the 3rd version of the two early films directed by Rakesh Roshan titled Kahona Pyar Hai and Koi Mil Gaya. She showed her dancing capabilities opposite Hrithik Roshan, who was blessed with supernatural power in the film. Her performance along with Hrithik Roshan had contributed in the success of the story which was a fantasy.


Priyanka Chopra had done well opposite Salman Khan in the film Salaam-e-isq. She had shown her capability of romantic performance in the film and the film had been successful with hit songs like “salaam-e-isq”. Generally people have the feeling that actresses having background wining awards in beauty contests struggle in bollywood films where they face the test of acting, dancing and other skills. Priyanka Chopra had won prizes in these contests and just like Aishwariya Rai and Lara Dutta had shown that she knows acting and can make major contribution in bollywood films.
