Happy birthday to Shatrughun Sinha. The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to successful actor Shatrughun Sinha on 9th December, 2023. He was considered to be one of the leading angry young man of the 70s after Big B. Although he started his career as anti-hero in films like Khilouna, where the central characters were played by Jeetender and Sanjeev Kumar, within short time, he showed his metal as an action star and ruled bollywood films for another 20 years. He also did well in the film Ek Nari Ek Brahmchari. He was successful in films like Gaye Aur Gauri opposite Jaya Bacchan, Bombay To Goa, etc., in the early 70s. Shatrughun Sinha learned acting Pune Film and Television Institute and his lessons went a long way in his illustrious career. He had seen other giants in the Pune Film and Television Institute like Hritik Ghatak, Subhash Ghai, etc. Viewers remember his combination with Reena Roy as both played romantic pair in numerous films. Kalicharan was one of the most popular films amongst them. Whenever Shatrughun Sinha faced Amitabh Bacchan both the actors tried to supersede the other. The viewers enjoyed the rift between the two actors in contemporary films. Both did a fantastic job in Ramesh Sippy’s film Shaan. Shatrughun Sinha’s charishma in the role of a shooter was as elegant as Big B’s angry young image in killing Goga Kapoor’s men in the film. The other films where Big and Shotgun (Shatrughun Sinha was called by this name) met included Kala Patthar, Dostana, Naseeb, to mention a few. In Kala Patthar there was an encounter scene with Amitabh Bacchan, which was as popular as the encounter of Vinod Khanna with Amitabh Bacchan in Amar Akbar Anthony. In all those films both the actors complimented each other. Even in comedy films like Naram Garam, Shotgun showed his comedy elements and was appreciated. Shatrughun Sinha was given an off-beat role by Goutam Ghosh in Bengali film Antarjali Jatra where he played the role of a cremator. He played a marathon innings in films which include commercial success like Goutam Govinda, Dillagi, etc. Even in political career he achieved a lot by working for the people under the BJP banner. He was member of Rajya Sabha and won elections also under BJP ticket. He is called the stylish Bihari Babu by his admirers. He must be a proud father after his daughter Sonakshi Sinha had stormed bollywood with her superhit debut opposite Salman Khan in the film Dabanng released this year. Both Shatrughun Sinha and Vinod Khanna are considered the greatest competitors with Big B and had succeeded in portraying the role of action heroes in India. Their height, voice and stature helped a lot in portraying those characters. The viewers expect Shotgun to continue the great work in films in future.

Happy birthday to Reena Roy.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Reena Roy on 7th January, 2013. She faced the strong competition of the performers of the 70s and yet could survive for more than 15 years in bollywood films. She came at a time when Hema Malini, Rekha, Parveen Babi, Zeenat Aman and other actresses were at their peak. But she impressed the viewers with her natural performance in Subhash Ghai’s film Kalicharan, opposite Shatrughun Sinha. The film was based on the story of a prisoner who was reformed and given training to work in the police force and thereafter help the investigation agency in tracking down the culprits. Reena Roy’s dance performance in the song “jareja” sung by Lata, was well appreciated. She was also successful opposite Shatrughun Sinha in the film Vishwanath. She did extremely well opposite Rishi Kapoor and Jeetender in the film Badalte Rishte which was released in late 70s. Her film Aasha opposite Jeetender was a box-office success without brilliant songs sung by Rafi and Lata including “ashawon ki sawan me” composed by LP. In the late 70s Reena Roy kept her mark with her performance in the film Nagin. It was a multistarrer film where Firoz Khan, Mumtaz, Jeetender, Sunil Dutt, all were sublime in their respective roles. The story was based on fantasy where the snakes changed their form and took revenge against human beings who had killed their fellow snakes at different periods of time. Although the story had no practical base, but the entertaining performance of most of the stars including Reena Roy, converted a normal film into a hit venture. Reena Roy acted in multistarrer films of other directors like Manmohan Desai. In Naseeb, she played the role of a worker in a restaurant where Big B himself worked. She had to do play acting with Big B to convince Hema Malini that Big B was a bad person and marry Shatrughun Sinha. The film became extremely successful with powerful performance of Shatrughun Sinha, Rishi Kapoor and Hema Malini. The music of the film was extremely successful. Pran and Amzad Khan played key roles in negative characters. She was extremely successful in the multi-starrer film Jaani Dushman. Again she was cast opposite Shatrughun Sinha. She loved Sunil Dutt but Shatrughun Sinha had weakness towards her in the film. The film was related to horror story with star performances from Jeetender, Sanjeev Kumar, Rekha and Amrish Puri. In the 80s, with the advent of action films new action stars adorned bollywood films. Actors like Rajnikant tried their luck in bollywood after playing successful innings in South Indian films. Even during that period Reena Roy was successful in her performance opposite Rajnikant in the film Andha Kanoon. She played the role of the wife of Rajnikant in the film which was released in 1983 and became super hit. Andha Kanoon was related to the revenge that was taken by Rajnikant against Pran, Prem Chopra and Danny after they killed his family members. Reena Roy played the romantic character opposite Rajnikant and kept her mark opposite many stars in the film. Later on she married Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan and left films. But even these days whenever she is seen in character roles like the one in Abhishek Bacchan’s film Refugee which was released in 2000, the viewers enjoy her presence to a big extent. The viewers expect her to continue her good work in character roles in the years to come.

Tapan Sinha was sublime in the film Safed Hathi.

Tapan Sinha was sublime in Safed Hathi.

Director Tapan Sinha did an excellent job with the film Safed Hathi. He made the Hindi film in 1978 especially for children. He won the National film award for children's film in 1978.

In the film, child Ashwani and her elder sister Gayatri Sharma were orphans. They stayed with their maternal uncle Sadhu Meher and his aunty Mala Jaggi. Both ill-treated them. Vijay Anand got some money from producer Utpal Dutta and came to that place a crew to make a film hovering around the story of Aswani.

One day Ashwani was send by her aunt to give a saree to the grandmother. He travelled across the jungle. There he met a white elephant and he called it safed hathi. The elephant gave him a gold coin. He showed it to his sister. His aunt came to know about it and then started pampering him. She bought new clothes for him.

His sister gave the coin to a postman played by Kalyan Chatterjee to go to the city and find out whether the coin was genuine. Kalyan Chatterjee, cheated her, left his job and was going to the city, in the meantime a tiger came and he got killed.

Shatughun Sinha, the king of the district, saw the white elephant and took the help of Ashwin to bring it to his place and tied it with ropes. Ashwin took the help of a bird mynah and brought all the other elephants from the forest to take back safed hathi. He showed where the gold coins were there to his aunt and uncle. Both dug the place, got the coins, but both got beaten by two poisonous snakes.

Tapan Sinha provided the message that animals should be left free to enjoy their existence and human beings should not interfere with them. The performance of Ashwin, Shatrughun Sinha, and others were excellent. The photography was excellent. Composer Ravindra Jain gave classical music and singers Hemlata and Yesudas did justice to the songs composed in the film including “utho he lal utho he”. The film should be preserved and restored.

Shatrughun Sinha – the action king of bollywood.

Shatrughun Sinha – the action king of bollywood.

Shatrughan Sinha
Shatrughun Sinha had shown his expertise in action films during 70s and 80s. He had a gifted voice and made adequate use of the voice while dealing with action sequences. In Yash Chopra’s Kala Patthar, he played the role of a criminal who required shelter and worked in a coal mine. The owner of the mine played by Prem Chopra exploited the poor workers of the area, which included Big B as well. Shashi Kapoor, the engineer, warned the employer that there was hazards of working in the mine and it can lead to accidents. Ultimately it did happen and Shatrughun Sinha had showed their bravery along with Big B and Shashi Kapoor in that situation.

He had portrayed the action sequences in the film Shaan also very well. He played the role of a shooter who was employed by Kulbhushan in the film to kill Sunil Dutt. As he purposely denied to kill him, his wife was killed. He saved Rakhee and her child when attacked by Kulbhushan’s men. He balanced the powerful performance of Big B and Shashi Kapoor with his reserve performance.

Shatrughan Sinha
In his early days, he started his career in negative characters like the role he played in Banphool, opposite Jeetender. But his acting potentiality was recognised by producers and he got impressive roles like the one in Kalicharan, opposite Reena Roy, where he was brought from prison, reformed and used to raise voice against greater culprits.

He had very good comedy conception and he exhibited it in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film Naram Garam. There was a scene where a play was going on the epic Ramayana. He thought the play to be real and entered the stage and started beating up all the actors.

Shatrughan Sinha
He also did well in films like Dostana, along with Big B. He also acted in patriotic films like Kranti, and there also showed his feeling for the motherland with strong performance. In action sequences, he was at par with Big B and Vinod Khanna. He also had the capability of using rural language which he used in the film Gautam Govinda and other films.

He was involved with active politics and had done social work under the BJP Banner. Viewers expect him to make notable contribution in character roles in the years to come.
