Happy birthday to Madhuri Dixit.

Happy birthday to dancing queen Madhuri Dixit. The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to beauty queen and dancing queen Madhuri Dixit on 15th May, 2016. She ruled bollywood films in the late 80s and 90s. In fact after her retirement of films no single actress of bollywood films could be associated with the number one position. In 2013, for celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema when polling was conducted by History TV, amongst actresses Madhuri Dixit received the maximum number of votes. From Tezaab, she dethroned Sri Devi from the number one position and created sensation in bollywood. Her dance performance in the song “ek do teen” in Tezaab, surprised the viewers. Her pair with Anil Kapoor was well accepted by the viewers. The hit films of the immortal pair include Ram Lakhan, Khel, Jeevan Ek Sunghursh, Zindagi Ek Jua, Parinda, etc. In the late 90s, she proved herself in every type of film and was cast by different directors and producers. The successful pair had produced both commercial masala films like Ram Lakhan directed by Subhash Ghai, and also off-beat films like Parinda, which was made for the intellectual audience. Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit stormed bollywood with romantic performance in the film Saajan. It was the musical blockbusters of early 90s which shook the industry. All the songs of the film were hit including “jiye to jiye kaise”, “mera dil bhi kitna paagal hai”, “mai shayar hoon”, etc. Madhuri Dixit was considered the best dancer of the country at that time. Even her performances in the other films opposite Sanjay Dutt were also impressive including Thanedaar, Khalnayak and Mahanta. In off-beat films like Nana Patekar’s Prahar and Parinda, Prakash Jha’s Mrityudand, her performance impressed the intellectual audience. She acted in those films with hardly any make up and still created her impression. She received the filmfare award for the best actress a number of times. Viewers remember her notable performance in the film Beta opposite Anil Kapoor. She fought against her mother-in –law to get justice for her husband. Her other hit films include Dil opposite Amir Khan, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun opposite Salman Khan, Aarzoo opposite Akshay Kumar, Koyla and Dil To Paagal Hai opposite Shahrukh Khan, to name a few. In fact, her film Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, opposite Salman Khan had remained as one of the greatest blockbusters of all times. She became such a phenomenon in the mid-90s, that the producers associated the success of the film with her more than the heroes of those films. In Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Lajja, in a multi-starrer film Madhuri Dixit was not cast opposite the leading actors like Jackie Shroff, or Anil Kapoor, yet her performance stands out as one of the best performance of the film. Her womanhood in the film attracted every type of audience. Also her performance in crime-thrillers like 100 days attracted viewers. It was a murder mystery, where Jackie Shroff, the boyfriend of Madhuri killed her sister Moonmoon Sen. Madhuri Dixit expressed the anxiety and horror in the film to perfection. Even her performance opposite Anil Kapoor in the film Pukar requires special mention. Anil Kapoor got national award for the best actor for the performance in the film. It was a film related to patriotism and Madhuri Dixit was probably the only actress in bollywood who could match Anil Kapoor in his struggle against terrorists. She acted in few films few year back like Aaja Nachle, but the films did not create the same magic as that of the 80s and 90s. Last year she judged the dance competition held in Private Channel in India. She came from USA and gave tips to the different participants including Shekhar Suman, Ankita Lokhunde and others. She also attended the filmfare awards. After judging the program she returned back to USA. Madhuri Dixit attended some of the award functions later on. All the superstars of the present period like Hrithik Roshan appreciated Madhuri Dixit. Shahrukh Khan danced with Madhuri Dixit in one of the award shows. Priyanka Chopra dedicated certain dance numbers to Madhuri Dixit in the same show. She acted in the film Dedh Ishqiya and Gulab Gang in recent years and shown that she still has acting left in her. Viewers consider her as the best actress of the last 30 years and want her to make a comeback in character roles in future.

Happy birthday to Madhu.

Happy birthday to Madhu.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Madhu on 26th March, 2010. Madhu, also known as Madhubala Raghunath had contributed a lot to the bollywood industry especially in the 90s. During the 90s, terrorism became an important issue in India. Many directors addressed the problem by revealing them in films.

Director Mani Ratnam addressed the issue relating to terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir in his Roja. Roja was probably the most successful film of Madhu. It had been shown that Madhu was married to Arvind Swami after he rejected Madhu’s sister for marriage. In fact Madhu’s sister had an affair with another person and told Arvind Swami about it.

Arvind Swami was a renowned computer engineer and his senior officer asked him to take an assignment and go to Kashmir. Arvind Swami took Madhu and went to Kashmir. Over there Arvind Swamy was kidnapped by the terrorists led by Pankaj Kapoor. They demanded the release of their leader who was arrested and kept in custody.

Madhu went to all the officers present over there for the release of the terrorist leader for the sake of her husband. At the end of the film Arvind Swamy freed himself and came and met Madhu after being tortured by the terrorists. The film became super hit, with powerful direction, brilliant music of AR Rehman and powerful acting of mainly Arvind Swami, Madhu and Pankaj Kapoor. The songs “roja janeman”, “rukmini rukmini”, “dil hai chota sa” stormed bollywood films in mid-90s.

Madhu did well even in action films like Phool Aur Kaante, opposite Ajay Devgan. The film was related to the romantic story between Ajay Devgan and Madhu and the barriers created by anti-socials in their way. The music given in that film by Nadeem Shravan was also successful. The songs “premi pagal”, ‘tumse milne ko dil karta hai”, etc., sung by mainly Kumar Shanu and Alka Yagnik, became very successful.

Madhu was also sublime in other films like Hum Hai Bemisaal, Diljaale, Return of the Jewel Thief, etc. She had acted with Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar and other leading stars of bollywood films. She was sublime in the film Yashwant opposite Nana Patekar. Her husband was adamant police of officer and she became a successful officer after passing civil service exam. She compromised with the uncompromising character played by Nana Patekar who gave her shelter and married her.

She acted in a number of Tamil and Malayalam films like Ottaya Pattalam as well. In the late 90s, all of a sudden she faded out of the bollywood industry. The viewers expect her to make a comeback very soon.

Madhuri Dixit – the powerful dancer of the 90s

Madhuri Dixit – the powerful dancer of the 90s.

Madhuri Dixit can be considered as one of the powerful dancers of the 90s. She had blended her acting skills with her dancing skills and became the leading actress of the 90s.

Her film Tezaab opposite Anil Kapoor, made her a star with her dance performance in the song “ek do teen” composed by Laxmikant Pyarellal. She also performed well in the film Dil opposite Amir Khan. She got a timid role in the film Jamai Raja where Anil Kapoor, her husband, taught her mother, played by Hema Malini, a lesson. Her mother was a proud lady who had a lot of wealth and due to her financial strength, she had the conception that anyone can be purchased. She also asked husband to leave her house due to differences related to her ego. Anil Kapoor taught her to be submissive and proved to her that money cannot be used to purchase happiness, peace, etc.

In Saajan, she balanced the soft performance of Sanjay Dutt and aggressive performance of Salman Khan with her romantic image. She also brought out the feelings of the woman who loves someone as a poet and later on realises that the person is someone else. She had also acted in hit films opposite Anil Kapoor including Ram Lakhan, Kishen Kanhaiya, Khel, Beta, etc.

At point of time she almost became the role model of dancers in India and the new generation used to imitate her styles in different films. In Subhash Ghai’s Khalnayak, she persuaded a criminal played by Sanjay Dutt to acknowledge her guilt and helped Jackie Shroff to answer all the allegations relating to lack of care shown to prevent Sanjay Dutt from escaping from his prison. She had also acted in crime thrillers like 100 days, where the audience could not understand who was the actual killer till the truth was unfolded.

She had done well opposite Rishi Kapoor in films like Sahebaan, Yarana, etc., where the songs like “kaise jiyunga mai” composed by Shiv Hari became a very big hit. She also acted in character roles along with Shabana Azmi in films like Mrityudand. Her performance opposite Sharukh Khan in the film Dil To Pagal Hai, was well appreciated with her choreographic skills exhibited in songs like “kab tak chup baithe”, “dil to pagal hai”, etc., composed by Uttam Singh. She also acted in Koyla opposite Shahrukh Khan. She won a number of film fare awards for best performance as actress in the respective years. She stopped acting after successful films like Pukar or Lajja, but made a comeback very recently with her film Aja Nacchle. The film lovers expect even better performance in years to come.
