Greatest female musical legend of the century Lata Mangeshkarji is remembered on birth anniversary.
Happy birth anniversary to melody-queen Lata Mangeshkar.
The listeners of music in India and abroad wish happy birth anniversary to Lata Mangeshkar, the melody queen on 28th September, 2023. She had remained a sensation even in her 80s. Her demise in 2022 had ended a great journey of melodious songs of different tastes and variations.
Starting her journey from the early 40s, Lataji created an impression with the songs “ayega anewala” in the film Mahal, released in 1947 composed by Khemchand Prakash. The songs of the horror film were picturised on Madhubala who later became a legendary star of bollywood films. Lata faced the competition from eminent singers Noorjahan, Suraiya, Shamshad Begum, Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle, Rajkumari, and others and emerged victorious in the 50s and 60s.
Her sweetness of voice compelled composers to give the best tunes ever created in Indian film history. Along with Rafi, Lata had the record of singing songs of almost all the composers of the golden age. Everlasting gems of Lata include “tu jaha jahan chalega” composed by Madanmohan Kohli, “duniya kare sawal” composed by Roshanagrath , “hume tum mil gaye humdum” composed by Shankar Jaikishan, “phir teri kahani yaad aye” composed by Naushad Ali , “ajare pardesi” composed by Salil Choudhury, “allah tero naam” composed by Jaidev, “piya tose naina lage re” composed by SD Burman, to name a few.
Lata had sung more than 30000 songs during her singing career which was more than 65 years long. She had sung for Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Nargis, Wahida Rehman, on one hand, and did sing for the new actresses of the 90s namely Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, etc. Her patriotic songs “aye mere watan ke logon” brought tears even in the eyes of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Articles after articles can be devoted to the Indian nightingale, Lata who had remained an institution in different types of songs including Hindustani classical, folk songs, lift romantic songs, to name a few.
Lata Mangeshkar sung songs in more than 15 regional languages including Marathi, Bengali and others. She played a very significant role in Bengali film industry in the world of playback singing. Some of her hit songs included “jago” in Raj Kapoor’s film Ekdin Ratre, composed by Salil Choudhury, “aaj mon cheyeche ami hariye jabo” composed by Sudhin Dasgupta in Uttam Kumar’s film Shankhabela, to name a few.
Goddess Saraswati was very kind to the nightingale of India, Lataji, and that was the reason the sweetness of her voice remained intact for the last 60 years. Articles after articles can be written about the musical genius.
Singers of the present age consider Lataji as their idol and try to emulate her style. Even reputed singers like Sonu Nigam feel privileged to get his son record his son at such tender age with evergreen legend Lata Mangeshkar.
The listeners of music all over the world expect Lataji to remain a legend even after her demise. Her works should be restored.

Legendary actress Wahida Rehman is honoured with Dadasahab Phalke award. She was sublime opposite Dilip Kumar sahab in Dil Diya Dard Liya, opposie Raj Kapoor sahab in Teesri Kasam Guru Dutt sahab in films Pyaasa and Kagaaz Ka Phool. Happy birthday to Wahida Rehman.
The viewers of Bollywood films wish happy birthday to veteran actress Wahida Rehman on 3rd February, 2023.
Wahida Rehman was known for her combination with actor director Guru Dutt. From 1957, the viewers saw thoughtful Guru Dutt in films like Pyaasa and Kagaz Ka Phool. Both the films were based on eternal truth. Pyasa was related to recognition of a poet in a materialistic world. Kagaz Ka Phool was related to story of directors and performers in celluloid, their rise and their fall due to ungratefulness of opportunists in society. The music composed by SD Burman in both these films were of high standard. Wahida Rehman balanced the thoughtful acting of Guru Dutt in these films. Also the lyrics of Sahir Ludhiyanvi were very meaningful. The notable songs included “yeh mahalon yeh takhton yeh tajon ki duniya”, “sar jo tera”, “bichar gaya bari bari” sung by Rafi, “waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam” sung by Geeta Dutt, to name a few. It was very unfortunate that Guru Dutt did not receive the filmfare award for the best actor for his thoughtful performance in the film Pyaasa.
Guru Dutt and Wahida Rehman’s onscreen chemistry was accepted by viewers in the film Chaudavi Ka Chand. The title song “chaudavi ka chand ho, ya aaftab ho” sung by Rafi and composed by Ravi can be considered as one of the ten best ghazals composed in the history of bollywood music. Guru Dutt bought colour in the song sequence. The film did great business. It was listed in the top five grosser of bollywood after Mughal-i-Azam, Kohinoor and Barsaat Ki Raat in the year 1960. Guru Dutt as an actor did great job in films like Bharosa, Saheb Bibi Aur Ghulam, Saanz Aur Sawera, etc. His early demise in the mid-60s led to huge loss in the film industry as his works were filled with deep thoughts.
In the 1960s Wahida Rehman acted in super hit films one after the other. Her successful films included Ram Aur Shyam, Dil Diya Dard Liya opposite Tragedy King Dilip Kumar, Patthat Ke Sanam opposite Manoj Kumar, Teesri Kasam opposite Raj Kapoor, Guide opposite Dev Anand, Dharti opposite Rajender Kumar to name a few.
The viewers pay respect to legendary actress Wahida Rehman on her birthday and want the restoration of her works to acknowledge her creativity as actress and versatility.

Manoj Kumar's Upkar Dilip Kumar's Ram Aur Shyam were greatest blockbusters of 1967.
The biggest blockbusters of 1967.

The biggest blockbuster of the year was Upkar. Manoj Kumar played a village man 'Bharat', who sacrificesd everything to get his brother educated. His brother Puran (Prem Chopra) went abroad and came back a selfish man wanting his share of the property. But when India started a war with Pakistan, Bharat decided to enlist and head to the border; while his selfish brother, with the help of his greedy uncle, Charandas(Madan Puri) and some partners, tried to gain profit by selling drugs and black marketing in the market. In the end, Bharat returned as a demoralized soldier having lost the war and his brother repented as he was caught by the police (by the brother-in-law of Bharat). Hence, he vowed to be a good & hardworking brother just like his Indo-Pak war veteran brother Bharat.
The movie also starred Asha Parekh as a doctor promoting family planning, Kamini Kaushal and Pran in his first positive character role. Madan Puri played the main villain with ease, full ability, and command. The film won several major awards. Manoj Kumar won the film award for the best director of the film. The 2nd biggest blockbuster of the year was Ram Aur Shyam. This was the first double role of tragedy king Dilip Kumar. His brother-in-law Gajendra (Pran) looked after his factories and controlled his property with an iron hand. Ram was shy and coward in nature. He was always abused and brutally beaten by Gajendra. Sulakshna and Kuku tried to protect Ram from Gajendra whenever he whipped Ram. Everybody decided to get Ram married for his well being. Gajendra found a rich girl Anjana (Waheeda Rehman) with the aim of getting a huge dowry. Anjana disliked Ram after he spilled tea over her due to nervousness. Gajendra angry at Ram's behaviour, conspired with the support of his mother and cunning Munimji to kill Ram and take over his property. Ram overheard this and escapes to the city to save his life. Meanwhile, Ram's long lost twin brother Shyam (Dilip Kumar) lived in a village with his adopted mother Ganga whom he believed to be his birth mother. No one other than Ganga knew the truth about the twin brothers. Shyam was strong, brave and mischievous, unlike his brother. He had a love hate relationship with Shanta (Mumtaz). Shyam escaped to the city, after a mischievous conflict with Ganga, and met Anjana, who was impressed by his personality. Anjana and her father confused Shyam with Ram. Ram met Shanta who thought he was Shyam and took him forcefully to his mother. Ram and Shanta developed feelings for each other. Meanwhile, Shyam decided to take the place of Ram to face Gajendra. Shyam refused to sign his property after which angry Gajendra attacked him. Shyam retaliated and whipped Gajendra hard, shocking everybody. Sulakshna stopped her brother to protect her husband. Gajendra was startled after being beaten up by Shyam, whom everybody believed as Ram. Shanta and Anjana met and both claimed the picture of Ram as their fiancé. Gajendra learned that Shyam has taken the place of Ram. He abducted Ram and Shanta, and planned to kill Ram. He framed Shyam for the murder of Ram though Ram was alive. Shyam was arrested by police. Anjana and her father learned from Ganga that Ram and Shyam were twin brothers lost in a village fair. Shyam escaped from police custody and battled Gajendra and his henchmen. Gajendra tried to shoot them but both the brothers and Shanta manage to defeat him. At the end twin brothers were happily married and the family reunited.

Unbeknownst to the world, Vikram survived the attack and lost his memory, where he was rescued by a North East Indian tribe and rehabilitated at their village. 30 years later, Vikram partially recovered his memory, soon learning that Azad was alive and set out to find him.
Present: Learning this, Narmada decides to help Azad and his team in their mission. Azad manages to steal Kaalie's containers, while Vikram gets captured by Kaalie's henchmen. Azad releases another video and states that he has stolen voting machines and demands to seal 253 factories in the country, responsible for air and water pollution. The factories are later sealed by the government. Kaalie learns about Azad's location in the woman's prison and a fight ensues, where Vikram finally recovers his memory and helps Azad by hanging Kaalie to death. Manobendra Mukherjee was one of the legendary classical singer of Bengal who had simplified classical ragas and used them in Bengali modern songs.
His romantic song “ami eto je tomay bhalobesechi” written by Shyamal Gupta and composed by himself had classical touch embedded in it. His other own composed song “emni kore porbe mone baki jibon dhore” was also a masterpiece related to classical andaz.
Manobendra Mukherjee’s pure classical numbers were even more melodious. One example is “ei moushumi mon shudhu rong bodlay”. In this song there was a small alaap or khanak taken at the place “mori je hay” where Manobendra had used the sargam by uttering in “aa aa” form. It was brilliant.
There were other romantic songs like “boroshaklanto o duti nayan mele”. The song had been composed by Anal Chatterji. Manobendra Mukherjee had another master piece “bolo raat bolo se kothay”. The song was totally raga oriented.
Manobendra Mukherjee was sublime in the song “ei nil nil jal sagore” composed by Probir Mojumdar and “tomar pather prante moner monidip jele rekhechi” composed by Satinath Mukherjee. Some of his own compositions like “ei ganga sei padda” and “sei bhalo ei bosonto noi” had absolute romantic andaz.
Manobendra Mukherjee had given adequate expression to songs composed by Himangshu Dutta including “birohini chiro birohini”, “tumi je andhar”, “biroho barisha”, etc. The songs were difficult in nature and Manobendra was probably the most classically trained singer to do justice to them.
Manobendra had also sung some of the songs created in thumri style. One example was “koto je soyechi betha” composed by Chinmoy Lahiri. One more classical number included “tumi to dariye acho”.
Articles after articles can be devoted to Manobendra Mukherjee whose classical touch was as elegant and stylish as Neil Harvey’s wristy strokes.
Manobendra Mukherjee’s songs composed by himself.
Manobendra Mukherjee had sung many landmark songs composed by the music directors of the golden age. The examples included “ami parini bujhite parini” composed by Salil Choudhury, “moyurkonthi ratero nile” composed by Sudhin Dasgupta, “tumi thako ami jai” composed Sailen Mukherjee, “seto naam dhore kono dino dakeni amay” composed by Dr. Nochiketa Ghosh, “birohini chiro birohini” composed by Himangshu Dutta, “jodi amake dekho tumi udashi” composed by Abhijit Banerjee, “oi chandrakala seto tomari moton shundor noi” composed by Anal Chatterjee, to name a few.
While these songs created history, the songs composed by Manobendra Mukherjee himself flabbergasted the audience in the 1950s and 1960s. As he was gifted with classical touch, the songs composed by himself were raagastrito meaning depicted the movement of Hindustani ragas.
One of his early compositions for himself titled “emni kore porbe mone baki jibon dhore” in early 1950s got huge response from the audience. Shyamal Gupta wrote the lyrics of the song. The other popular song of the 1950s included “ami eto je tomae bhalobesechi, tobu mone hoy e jeno go kichu noy, jeno aro bhalo besejete parena hridoy”. These songs became immortal.
There were also songs which were pathos related composed by Manobendra himself. Some of them included “koto asha niye tumi esechile”, “sei bhalo ei bosonto noy”, to mention a few.
At the same time Manobendra Mukherjee composed songs based on orthodox ragas and catered to the interest of pure classical audience. Some of those songs included “bhalo lagena tumi na ele”, “ei moushumi mon shudhu rang badlae”, “rimjhim baje modiro bay”, to mention a few.
At the same time Manobendra Mukherjee composed songs for himself which were based on the ragas used by composers earlier. For example he was inspired a composition of Sudhirlal Chakravarty for him in the early 50s titled “ghumayona soheli go” which he later modified and made a song on the same raga titled “modhumalotiro bone legeche dol”. Both the songs were majestic.
At the same time Manobendra Mukherjee composed songs based on western andaz. His composition for himself titled “ami ke koto ekela tomari poth cheye cholechi”, “songi bihongi tumi je amar” had absolute western andaz. Even “ei ganga sei padda” had folk effect.
It is difficult to rate both the types of songs and difficult to say whether Manobendra Mukherjee’s own compositions were better than other music-directors’s compositions. All the songs require serious restoration.
Manobendra Mukherjee educated the audience in Nimai Bhattacharya interview in DD Bangla.
In the late 1970s and 1980s when Doordarshan started operations, in DD Bangla a lot of brilliant interviews used to take place relating to great musical personalities.
Nimai Bhattacharya took a brilliant interview of eminent singer Manobendra Mukherjee at that time. Manobendra Mukherjee died in the early 1990s and for those reasons the interview taken during late 1970s educate the audience a lot.
Manobendra Mukherjee was a great speaker. He told Nimai Bhattacharya that his uncle Ratneshwar Mukherjee composed the tune of the song “nai chondon lekha sri radhar choke nai nai shemorai” in 1953. That was his first song.
As far as film music was concerned, director Nirmal Dey took Manobendra Mukherjee to writer Tarashankar Banerjee who was writing the script of Uttam Kumar’s film Chadangar Bou. He asked Manobendra to compose a song. He composed the tune of a song relating to shiber gajon titled “shibo he shibo he”. Tarashankar Banerjee was impressed to such an extent that he agreed to keep Manobendra Mukherjee as the music director of the film.
Manobendra Mukherjee in the interview had talked about himself winning national award for his song and music in Uttam Kumar’s film Jayjayanti. He also won the BFJA Award for the music of the film.
He talked about all the legendary composers of the golden age. He sang two three lines of brilliant songs he sang on their compositions. He sang Sudhirlal Chakravarty composed song “ganero shure”, Robin Chatterjee’s “ei pranjhorona jaglo” and “surjo tomar prothom toron kholo”, Sudhin Dasgupta’s “moyurkonthi ratero nile”, Dr Nochiketa Ghosh’s “bone noy mone mor”, to name a few. He also talked about the great poets and lyricists Sailen Roy, Gouriprasanna Majumdar, Shyamal Gupta, Pabitra Mitra and others.
He also talked about his capability of singing folk songs like Bhatiyali. He was asked by Dr Nochiketa Ghosh to sing the song “ore mon majhi tor boithare” in Uttam Kumar’s film Nabajanmo. Later when he heard Folk singer Nirmalendu Choudhury he thought folk songs could be sung with an even more louder and open voice. He also shared the ill luck that when he sang the song “dole dodul dole jhulona” in the film Deya Neya, the recordist told him to sing it not in a good manner, because the hero’s friend was supposed to give lips in the song. But Uttam Kumar came in the set and asked Manobendra to sing the song in the best way. His brother Tarun Kumar gave lips in the song and composer Shyamal Mitra composed the music of the film.
He finished of the program by singing nazrul geeti based on Shyamkalyan raga, titled “sedin chiloje godhuli logon subhodristir por” and said he had completed 100 records of Nazrulgeeti at that time itself. From Manobendra’s words the common man got educated in music.
Happy birthday to Mahima Choudhary
Happy birthday to Mahima Choudhury.
The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Mahima Choudhury on 13th September, 2023. She had been a big asset of bollywood films in the 90s.
She had been given a great break by Subhash Ghai in the film Pardesh opposite Shahrukh Khan. All the songs in the film became super hit like “do dil mil rahe hai”, sung by Kumar Shanu or “yeh dil diwana” sung by Sonu Nigam, etc. Her traditional role in the film was well appreciated by every section of the viewers. Subhash Ghai had given breaks to new comers all across his career, and just like Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala, Mahima Choudhury also proved her merit in the first film.
After that Mahima Choudhury acted in every type of roles. She was sublime opposite Chandrachud Singh in the film Daag the fire. Although it was an out and out action film she kept her mark in the film. She had a double role in the film and did very well in the role of an accomplished girl and the role of a prostitude. The two characters were absolutely contrasting in nature. Due to domination of Sanjay Dutt in the film Mahima’s performance did not get the limelight which she deserved.
She did extremely well in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s film Lajja. She was one of the five ladies who faced oppression from the patriarchal society and her way of expressing discontent was very impressive. She was sublime opposite Sanjay Dutt in the film Kurukshetra. Sanjay Dutt was a fearless police officer and faced the hurdles created by the corrupted ministers and the corrupted police officers in his department. Mahima Choudhury, who played the role of his wife in the film expressed her discontent after being the victim of vengeance of the criminals who were arrested by Sanjay Dutt.
Mahima Choudhury did well in smaller roles as well. The one which is most remembered is her performance in the film Dhadkan where Shilpa Shetty, Sunil Shetty and Akshay Kumar had the more prominent roles.
She had featured in less number of films in the recent past. The viewers expect her to act in bollywood films in future as she still has a lot of acting left in her.
Greatest female singer of the century Lataji is remembered on birth anniversary.

When Alia questions their motive, Azad reveals his plan of donating the money to a certain economically disadvantaged class in the country. Azad and his gang donate the entire money and escape from the Metro successfully.
Meanwhile, Azad meets Narmada and her daughter Suchi, with love slowly brewing between the two of them and they eventually get married. Azad and his gang put into play another plan to kidnap the Health Minister and demand to initiate world-class infrastructure to every government hospital, in exchange for the Health Minister's life. The infrastructure is immediately initiated in the hospitals, allowing Azad and his gang to escape again after a shootout between Narmada and her team. One night, Narmada finds out about Azad's true identity and confronts him, but Kaliee's brother Manish Gaikwad and his henchmen capture and torture them. However, Azad is saved by his doppelgänger named Vikram, where he is taken to a safe house. Narmada finds out the identities of Azad's accomplices and confronts them, where she learns about Azad and Vikram's connection.
Past: Vikram was a commando in the Indian Army, who set out on a operation to hunt down the terrorist group responsible for attacking and killing 40 Indian soldiers, along with holding civilians captive. Vikram and his team took down the terrorists, but not without heavy casualities. Vikram noticed that their weapons were faulty and filed a complaint against Kaalie, who was the supplier of the weapons, but Kaalie tried to unsuccessfully cut a deal with Vikram. That same night, Vikram and his wife, Aishwarya, were attacked at home by Kaalie and his henchmen. Kaalie took Vikram onboard a plane and shot him to death, while Aishwarya was sentenced to prison for killing three cops who were on Kaalie's payroll. Afterwards, Vikram was declared a national traitor. Aishwarya later gave birth to their child Azad in the prison. Many years later, Aishwarya revealed her past to Azad and asked him to prove Vikram's innocence and provide justice to the oppressed, before she was later sentenced to death.
However, Narmada's teammate Irani, who is revealed to be on Kaalie's payroll, tries to kill them; Lakshmi is killed in the resulting crossfire. Azad arrives at the prison and kills Irani in a stampede. Vikram, Azad and his team attack Kaalie's containers, which contain money for the upcoming elections and also for boosting Kaalie's political ambitions. Few months later, it is revealed that STF officer Madhavan Nayak was the one who helped Azad in completion of his missions, where he assigns Azad and his team to Switzerland and target Swiss Banks for another operation.

Rafisahab and LP magic combination shaped the careers of Dharmenderji and Jeetenderji

Rafisahab is remembered on his birth anniversary in December 2021 and death anniversary on 31st July 2021. Laxmikant Pyarellal faced the greatest challenge in establishing their career in Bollywood films in the 1960s. There were a number of reasons for that. Jigri Dost had fast numbers of Rafi Sahab like “mere desh me pawan chale purwayi”, “raat suhaani jag rahi hai”, “dil me kya hai”, “phool hai baharon ka”, to name a few. Jeene Ki Raah fetched LP the other filmfare award in 1969. Rafi Sahab’s were smash hits like “aane se uski aye bahar”, “aa mere humjoli aa”, “ek banjara hai”, ‘chanda ko dhundte” to name a few.

Happy birthday to Pyarellalji of great Laxmikant Pyarellal musical duo.
The viewers of Bollywood films wish happy birthday to Pyarellal on 3rd September, 2019. Laxmikant Pyarellal had a very successful career in bollywood films. Their success in the film Parasmani and Dosti had proved the fact that they had emerged in the film arena to play a long innings. In the 70s they gave music in most of the successful films and the music was innovative too.
After the death of Jaikishan in 1971, Raj Kapoor used LP in the film Bobby in 1973. The songs “mai shayar to nahi” sung by Shailendra Singh, and songs sung by Chanchal had given them an opening for flourishing their musical careers as well. LP gave successful music in the film Aan Milon Sajna, where songs like “aan milon sajna” sung by Rafi and “acha to hum chalte hai” sung by Lata and Kishore became hits.
LP gave successful music in the film Amar Akbar Anthony, where Rafi’ssongs “parda hai parda”, “shirdiwali saibaba”, Kishore’s song “my name is Anthony Gonsalves”, etc., had catered to the popular taste of film music. LP gave successful music in Rishi Kapoor’s film Sargam, with hit songs of Rafi and Lata including “dafliwale”, “koel boli”, “ramjiki nikli sawari”, etc.
Even the songs in Rishi Kapoor’s film Karz, including “darde dil” sung by Rafi and “om shanty om” sung by Kishore gave super hit in the late 70s. Songs like “yeh dil tum bin kahin lagta nahi” sung by Rafi and Lata in the film Izzat, and “patta patta boota boota”, sung by Rafi and Lata, in Ek Nazar are quality compositions showing the class of LP.
LP also gave quality songs in the film Jeevan Mrityu, with Rafi’s song like “jhilmil sitaronka”, songs like “o sapno ka raja” sung by Rafi and Lata in the film Banphool.
LP in many cases compromised with the taste of mass audience in composing music in the late 70s if compared with the superlative class of music composed in the 60s. He even gave classical songs in the 60s like “roushan tumhi se duniya” and “woh jab yaad aye” sung by Rafi and Lata in the film Parasmani based on classical touch.
Even then the compositions of LP in the 70s are notable and should be preserved.

Plot
Azad Rathore is the jailer of a woman's prison in Mumbai, who along with his gang of women/inmates consisting of Lakshmi, Eeram, Ishkra, Kalki, Helena and Janhvi; hijack a Mumbai Metro and negotiates with NSG officer Narmada Rai, to ask the government to send ₹40,000 crores in exchange for the passengers' lives. Kaliee Gaikwad, who is the fourth largest global arms dealer, learns that his daughter Alia is also one of the captives on the train and agrees to give the money.
Few months later, it is revealed that STF officer Madhavan Nayak was the one who helped Azad in completion of his missions, where he assigns Azad and his team to Switzerland and target Swiss Banks for another operation.

The nation remember romantic star Rishi Kapoorji on both birth anniversary and death anniversary.
Rishi Kapoor died on 30th April 2020 and shocked the nation. One day ago the country was devastated with death news of talented actor Irfan Khan. Rishi Kapoor suffered from cancer and died at an of 1967. He is alive in his works. The viewers of bollywood films wished happy birth anniversary to Rishi Kapoor on 4th September 2023. He had remained one of the most romantic actors that bollywood had ever produced.
He started his career as a child artist in Raj Kapoor’s film Mera Naam Joker in 1971. He stormed bollywood films with his romantic performance in the film Bobby in 1973. The film did great business and Rishi Kapoor received the filmfare award for the best actor for his performance in Bobby. Raj Kapoor as producer and director started a new innings with a new team of Laxmikant Pyarellal as against Shankar Jaikishan after the death of Jaikishan in 1971. LP had huge contribution in the music of the films of Rishi Kapoor for the next ten years.
From that time onwards Rishi Kapoor remained one the most romantic actors in bollywood films. His films Amar Akbar Anthony in 1977, Laila Majnu in 1976 and Sargam in 1978 were the greatest musical blockbusters of the 70s. The songs composed by Laxmikant Pyarellal, Jaidev and Madanmohan in these films became everlasting hits. The notable songs of Rafi and Lata in this film included “koel boli”, “parda hai parda”, “dafliwale”, “barbad muhobbat ki dua”, “is reshmi pazeeb”, to name a few. LP received the filmfare award for the best composer for 3 Rishi Kapoor’s films namely Amar Akbar Anthony, Sargam and Karz from 1978 to 1980.
Rishi Kapoor’s extraordinary capability of giving lips in these songs separated him from other actors of that era. His films Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai, Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahi and Karz created history. He showed his dancing skills in every type of songs of Rafi and Kishore including “hai aga dushman zamana”, “bacchna aye haseeno”, “dard –e- dil”, “om shanty om”, “puchona yaar kya hua”, to name a few. RD Burman and Laxmikant Pyarellal probably gave their best music to Rishi Kapoor in the 70s and 80s.
In the 80s, Rishi Kapoor’s films Duniya, Sitamgar, Saagar, Chandni, Cooli, Naseeb, did fantastic business. He got the opportunity of acting opposite stalwarts in the industry namely Dilip Kumar in Duniya, Dharmender in Sitamgar, Kamal Hassan in Saagar, to name a few. In fact due to presence of Rishi Kapoor, producers and directors created romantic stories during an era when Big B, Vinod Khanna, Shatrughun Sinha dominated bollywood with action films. Even in the 90s, Rishi Kapoor’s films Bol Radha Bol, Damini, etc., were appreciated by the audience. He was successful opposite young actresses like Juhi Chawla, Meenakshi Sheshadri, who were one generation younger than him. He had great contribution in the films of eminent directors like Yash Chopra, Manmohan Desai, Subhash Ghai, Ramesh Sippy, David Dhawan, and others.
After the debut of his son Ranbir Kapoor in the film Sawaariya, Rishi Kapoor switched to character roles. In 2009 also Rishi Kapoor did well in films like Dilli 6, Pyar Me Twist, Luck By Chance. He received Star Screen award for the best supporting actor in 2010 for his performance in the film Love Aaj Kal. In 2010 he acted in the films Chintuji and Sadiyaan.
2012 had been an excellent year for Rishi Kapoor. At the beginning of the year he acted in a negative character for the first time in his career in the film Agneepath. The film with hero Hrithik Roshan had done business of more than 125 crores. His other film Housefull 2 with Akshay Kumar had become super hit too. It also had done business of more than 110 crores. He is experimenting with new characters in this part of his career. He received best villain award for his performance in the film Agneepath. In 2013, he had acted in the films Chasme Baddoor and Besharam. In 2015 his performance in the film All is Well was very well appreciated.
With his death the 3 generation actors Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor ended. It is an irreparable loss to the industry.

Sunny Deolji starrer Gadar did 340 crores business in 9 days in India and internationally 225 crores taking the tally to 565 crores worldwide. Sunny Deolji starrer Gadar 2 did 301 crore business in 8 days. Internationally the film did 200 crores and so worldwide it has done 501 crores business. Sunnyji is the oldest star to give a blockbuster at this age. During the backdrop of "Crush India" campaign in 1971, Tara Singh goes missing during a skirmish on the border and is believed to be imprisoned in Pakistan. Learning this, Tara's son Charanjeet "Jeete" Singh goes to save him, but gets imprisoned and tortured by the Pakistan soldiers under Major General Hamid Iqbal, whose 40 subordinates were killed by Tara during his escape with his wife Sakeena and Jeete from Pakistan in 1954.[a] Hamid got Sakeena's father executed in 1954, and now wants to exact revenge on Tara himself.
Tara, having survived the skirmish on the border uncaptured, learns about this after reuniting with Sakeena, and sets out to rescue Jeete. With the help of his friends in Pakistan, Tara confronts Hamid and helps Jeete escape a public execution, but they are parted shortly afterwards. After reuniting, Tara and Jeete are helped by the family of Muskaan, a Pakistani Muslim girl with whom Jeete has fallen in love.
Hamid captures Muskaan's family and some Indian soldiers. Killing Muskaan's brother, he forces Tara, Jeete and Muskaan to surrender. Tara, along with others, is able to escape after a brutal fight. Hamid gives chase, but Tara and others are able to take the fight to Indian territory, allowing Indian army to hold Hamid and his men at gunpoint. Tara spares Hamid, who tries to kill Tara anyway and is gunned down by Indian soldiers.
Tara and Jeete triumphantly return to India with Muskaan, and reunite with Sakeena. Sunny Deol reprises his role of Tara Singh, but was initially hesitant about revisiting the role, believing that films like Gadar: Ek Prem Katha can be made only once in history. He states, "We had made Gadar but the audience made it a Blockbuster. Initially, I was a bit apprehensive about whether we would do justice and continue the legacy of the first part." The film's director Anil Sharma revealed how he convinced Deol to return, stating, "When I narrated Gadar 2, Sunny was a little hesitant because he felt Gadar was a blockbuster and didn't want to meddle with it. But I requested him that the entire nation has been requesting a sequel and we should respect their emotions. After many calls, he finally agreed to hear the story. When we sat down for narration and finished it, he had tears in his eyes. That's how the journey of Gadar 2 started."[9]
Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma also reprise their roles of Sakeena and Charanjeet "Jeete" Singh from the first film.[10] Simrat Kaur was also cast for the film.[10] Manish Wadhwa was offered the role of a Pakistani army general in the film. Rohit Choudhary, was also cast in the role of a Pakistani army general in the film. Luv Sinha and Gaurav Chopra have also been cast in important role. The shoot of the film was wrapped up by May 2023.[11]
The late Amrish Puri face used as Ashraf Ali, Sakeena's father from the first film. Puri passed away in 2005 and used his role through archive footage from Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and computer-generated imagery.
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, Gadar 2 has an approval rating of 9% from 11 reviews, with an average score of 3.3/10.[23]
Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama rated the film 4.5 stars out of 5 and wrote “Gadar 2 is old-school desi entertainment at its best. Sunny Deol returns to the big screen with a vengeance… He is as ferocious as ever. The patriotic flavour coupled with tremendous recall value will make it a huge money-spinner. Gadar 2 lives up to massive expectations… Has it all: drama, emotions, action, two beautiful songs [from the first part] and the hand pump sequence, of course. Anil Sharma makes sure he packs every ingredient on the shelf to create a big-screen entertainer.” [24] Anuj Kumar from The Hindu wrote "It is not as provocative as the original as driver Anil Sharma seeks to take a middle path. Perhaps, it feels like that because the socio-political atmosphere outside the theatre has become much more dramatic and shrill than what it was when the original released in 2001. Still, it is good that Sharma has toned down the jingoistic tone."[25] Monika Rawal Kukreja of Hindustan Times wrote "Gadar 2 does falter in terms of story and its pace, though it brings back the mass entertainment and that can surely make it a paisa vasool watch."[26] Anindita Mukherjee from India Today gave three and half stars out of five and wrote "Gadar 2 supersedes expectations, as it successfully tugs at your heartstrings. And there’s Sunny Paaji to do all the heavy-lifting (pun intended).[27] Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express rates one and half stars out of 5 stars said: What we can confirm is that Sunny paaji can still snarl effectively, and that dhai-kilo-ka-haath has residual potency. We can also confirm the reappearance of a hand-pump.[28] Umesh Punwani of Koimoi gave one star and reviewed as: this is a blatant misuse of fans’ emotions taking it for granted to deliver such a horrendous product hoping it’ll work only based on nostalgic factors
Happy birthday to legendary singer Asha Bhosleji
Happy birthday to Asha Bhosle.
The viewers of bollywood films and listeners of music all across the country wish happy birthday to Asha Bhosle on 8th September, 2023. She had remained a legend of legends in the field of music. She came to limelight in the 70s and 80s and ended up being the most successful female playback singer after Lata Mangeshkar.
In the 50s, Asha Bhosle had to face the competition from other singers dominating the bollywood playback industry like Lata Mangeshkar, Shamshad Begum, Noorjahan, Suraiya, Geeta Dutt, Suman Kalyanpur, Sudha Malhotra and many other singers. Asha’s successful songs in the 50s include “mur murke na dekh” composed by Shankar Jaikishan in the film Shree 420, “aiye meherban” composed by OP Nayyar in the film Howrah Bridge, “accha ji mai hari” composed by SD Burman in the film Kala Pani, to name a few.
In the 60s, OP Nayyar backed Asha Bhosle, and her duets with Rafi in films like Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon released in 1963, Ek Musafir Ek Haseena released in 1962, Mere Sanam released in 1965, Kashmir Ki Kali in 1964, are considered milestones in Indian film music. Her famous duets with Rafi include “naznee bara rangeen hai wada”, “mai pyar ka rahi hoon”, “isharon isharon”, “diwana hua badal”, “bahut shukriya”, “zulf ki chayon me chehere ka ujala lekar”, etc. Few other composers only reposed their confidence on Asha like Khayyam who made her sing memorable songs in Raj Kapoor’s film Phir Subah Hogi, released in 1958. Ravi had given songs to Asha Bhosle in films like Waqt, Humraaz, Gumraah, etc. Some of her notable songs in those films include “in baharon me in fizayon me”, “wo subah kabhi to ayegi”, etc. Roshanlal Nagrath’s famous qawalli “na to karwaki talaash hai” in Barsaat Ki Raat in 1960 featured Mohammad Rafi, Manna Dey, Asha Bhosle and Sudha Malhotra. Shankar Jaikishan used Asha Bhosle in Rajender Kumar Vaijayantimala starrer Suraj, notably in the song “kaise samjhayun” which was a classical duet song between Mohammad Rafi and Asha Bhosle. The list can go on.
In the 70s Asha Bhosle married RD Burman and it changed the career of the premier singer. Her westernized style of singing was used by RD to give her super hit songs like “piya tu ab tu aja” in the film Karwan, “dum maro dum” in the film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, “chura liya” in the film Yaadon Ki Baraat, etc. She sang in almost all the films where RD Burman composed music. Asha Bhosle had sung landmark qawallies opposite Mohd. Rafi like “hum kisi se kum nahi”, in the film Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahi, “pal do pal ka” in the film Burning Train, etc.
In the 80s, Asha Bhosle crossed new milestones by showing her skills in singing mujras in the film Umrao Jaan, composed by Khayyam. All the songs in the film including “dil cheez kya hai”, “justju”, etc., were appreciated by the critics. Her song “mera kuch saman” in Gulzar’s film Ijazat showed the versatile class of singing of Asha Bhosle. She received filmfare awards a number of times and she balanced the innovative style of singing of Kishore Kumar with her own innovation. It is not possible to cover the accomplishments of legendary singer Asha Bhosle in a single article as she had sung more than 25000 songs in hindi and other languages. Even her songs “amar din katena”, “aro dure cholo jai” in Uttam Kumar’s Bengali film Choddobeshi composed by Sudhin Dasgupta was worth mentioning. After marrying RD Burman, she had sung a number of Bengali songs composed by RD Burman. She had even sung ghazals with Ghulam Ali.
In 2012, she had remained one of the judges of Sony TV Indian Idol 6 Program along with the other judges Anu Malik, Sunidhi Chauhan and Salim Merchant. There also she did a great job. The listeners expect Asha Bhosle to continue the great work she had started more than 50 years back.
