The film was related to the violent scenario in Kolkata caused by politics in academic institutions and the loss to the students due to such unrest. Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi did extremely well in the film along with Abhishek Bacchan. Abhishek Bacchan and Rani Mukherjee complimented each other in the film Bunty Aur Babli. Both of them took the recourse of falsehood and duped different people all across the country. Before their plan was unearthed they left the place and got involved in other crimes. The music in the film composed by Shankar- Ehsaan-Loy became super hit with popular songs like “dharak dharak”, “chup chupke chup chupke”, “bunty aur babli”, “kajra re kajra re”, etc. Aishwarya Rai amused the viewers with her item number in the film titled “kajra re”. Big B also did well in the film in the role of police inspector. Abhishek Bacchan did well in the film Dhoom-2 opposite Hrithik Roshan. He investigated the significant operations carried out by Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai who were international thieves and stole expensive items from museums and art galleries. Abhishek Bacchan arrested Hrithik Roshan at the end of the film but did not confine him after he disclosed the places where he stored the stolen items. His other hit films included Guru, opposite Aishwarya Rai and Dostana opposite John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. In 2009 his film Dilli 6 had been released where he did extremely well opposite Sonam Kapoor and veteran actors in the film. At the end of the year he acted in a critically acclaimed film Paa. The film was directed by Balki. Big played the role of the son of Abhishek Bacchan and Vidya Balan played the role of the his wife. Big B died at the end of the film. Big B and Vidya Balan received the best actor and best actress award in 2010 star screen awards for their performance in the film Paa. Abhishek Bacchan played his role of a politician in style. His tall height and deep voice impressed the viewers over the last few years and the viewers are looked forward to his depiction of the character Ram that he played in director Mani Ratnam’s film Ravan. Unfortunately the film Raavan did not do great business. The same was the fate of his film Khelenge Hum Je Jaan Se directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar. But Abhishek Bacchan played the role of freedom fighter Masterda Surjo Sen who was involved in Chattagram Astragarh Lunthon during the colonial period. He had testws his luck in 2011 with the films Game and Dum Maro Dum and the film Players being released in 2012. None of these films did great business. In 2012, he became the father of girl child as Aishwarya Rai gave birth to a daughter. He requires a hit film very soon and the viewers wish that the other films in 2012 will do well and bring back the stardom of Abhishek Bacchan.

The film Agneepath had already done business worth Rs 65 crores in the first week of its release. There are different reasons for its immense success. Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor were given very stylish looks. Rishi Kapoor was excellent in the role of Rauf Lala. He had probably acted in a negative role for the first time.

Sanjay Dutt made everyone flabbergasted with his fiery performance. He had overshadowed every other actor in the film. He had been the star of the entire film. The evil mind had been depicted by him in a very crude way.

Hrithik Roshan was all in one. He was looking extremely macho-like star. He expressed his emotions in style.He also showed the viewers that he could excel in action and emotions in a film where there was not much scope of dancing.

The music of the film was excellent with Ajay Atul providing catchy tunes like “chikni chameli” sung by Shreya Ghoshal. Katrina Kaif in the dance number gave an awesome performance. Lastly the photography of director Karan Malhotra had been excellent with brilliant locations in Diu.

It is great to record that Hrithik Roshan’s film is definitely going to do business of more than 100 crores. Previously it was the charishma of Salman Khan which were pulling films like Dabaang, Bodyguard beyond 150 crores. Hrithik Roshan had got into that club, although the success is a mixed success of Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor.

Actress Vidya Balan had got the recognition she deserved. After winning Zee Cine Awards for the best actress for both popular category and jury category she won the filmfare award 2012 also for the performance in the film Dirty Picture.

In the male category, Ranbir Kapoor won the filmfare award for the best actor for the performance in the film Rockstar. He won it against the other nominees Salman Khan in Bodyguard and Shahrukh Khan in Don 2.  Composition of music in the film Rockstar earned AR Rehman his filmfare award for 2012.

Zoya Akhtar won the best director award for the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Rani Mukherjee won the best supporting actress award for her performance in the film No One Killed Jessica. Farhan Akhtar won the best supporting actor award for the performance in the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Mohit Chauhan won the best singer male award for the song “jo vi mai” in the film Rockstar. Usha Utthup and Rekha Bhardwaj won the best singer female award for the song “ankho se” in the film Saat Khoon Maaf. Aruna Irani received lifetime achievement award for her contribution in hindi cinema.

It is strange that Bodyguard was not considered for awards inspite of the film doing business worth 160 crores. Neither Salman Khan won the best actor award, nor Kareena Kapoor won the best actress award, nor Shreya Ghoshal won the best singer award for “teri meri” song, nor Siddique received the best director award. Ranbir Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan hosted the award.

Salman Khan was again ignored for awards inspite of giving greatest blockbuster Bodyguard in 2011. Vidya Balan won the best actress award in Zee Cine Awards 2012, for her brilliant performance in the film Dirty Picture in both the popular category and the jury category. She is winning awards everywhere. Imtiaz Ali won the best director award for the film Rockstar. AR Rehman won the best music director award for his brilliant performance in the film Rockstar. The song “ishq sufinana” from Dirty Picture had been adjudged as the best song of the year. Siddque got the award for the best debut director for the film Bodyguard. She was tortured and ill-treated by a person and after the death of the soul, the unsatisfied spirits entered Urmila’s body and disclosed the truth relating to the sad event to the people at large. He had played a notable role in the bollywood industry and also contributed well in Hollywood films. In the late 60s, he played a significant role in the film Hulchul with OP Ralhan. The film was a suspense thriller having comedy element as well. The communication relating to a murder was heard by OP Ralhan and he communicated it to all the known personalities in the film thereby creating a panic situation. Kabir Bedi’s baritone voice in the film impressed the viewers. In the 80s and 90s, Kabir Bedi was used by most of the directors of bollywood films in negative roles. In Firoz Khan’s Yalgaar, he kept the balance in the film opposite Mukesh Khanna. His men killed the Commissioner of Police played by Mukesh Khanna, and thereafter was chased by Feroz Khan, the son of Mukesh Khanna. His own son played by Sanjay Dutt, took the challenge on his own shoulders, but could not save Kabir Bedi. He died himself after being fired by Feroz Khan in the film. Feroz Khan always believed in style. Kabir Bedi exhibited the Hollywood andaz in the film. The film was very successful in the early 90s. Kabir Bedi was sublime in his role in the film Rudrakh. He played the role of the father of Sanjay Dutt in the film. Through his meditation he could visualize the person in whose possession the famous stone rudraksh was lying with. Rudraksh was a very powerful device, and the person who used it could acquire supernatural power. The reason Kabir Bedi identified the person Sunil Shetty, who was having the rudraksh, was because the stone could be used by the respective person for committing evil deeds as well. Kabir Bedi died in the process. But Sanjay Dutt with the help of Bipasha Basu reached the place where Sunil Shetty kept the rudraksh. Ultimately it was obtained from him. Although the film was based on fantasy, Kabir Bedi’s performance was worth mentioning. Kabir Bedi was also sublime in the film Kohram. Big B and Nana Patekar fought against the antisocial activities of Danny in the film. Kabir Bedi played the role of Military major and he did very well in the film. Kabir Bedi had acted in more than 200 bollywood films and had shown his indispensability in different types of roles. The viewers expect him to continue the good work in the years to come.

The listeners of music all over the world wish happy birthday to Mahendra Kapoor on 9^th January, 2012. Few years ago the great singer had left the listeners. But he is alive in his numerous brilliant basic discs and film songs.

He came to limelight in bollywood music with the resemblance of classical singer Mohammad Rafi. In fact Rafi is the idol and guru and Mahendra Kapoor learned singing from the musical giant. Mahendra Kapoor became a big contributor in BR Chopra’s films in the 50s and 60s. In Rajender Kumar’s film Dhool Ka Phool Mahendra Kapoor’s songs were very successful.

During that period, Mahendra Kapoor sang a brilliant Bengali modern song “ekti e raat katena” which made viewers spellbound. The song had pathos feeling, romantic appeal, classical touch everything embedded in it. He was unblemish in Sunil Dutt’s film Gumraah released in 1963. His song “chalo ek baar bhir se” became super hit in the early 60s. Composer Ravi had composed many brilliant tunes for Mahendra Kapoor in his illustrious career which included the songs “neele gagan ki tale” in the film Humraaz for which he received filmfare award for the best singer, “in baharon me in ghatayon me tujhko mera dil pukare” in the film Gumraah to name a few.

Mahendra Kapoor also sang many songs under composition of OP Nayyar which included “one two three” in Biswajeet’s film Kismat, “lakhon hai mera dilwala” in Biswajeet’s film Kismat, “baharen phir bhi ayegi” in Dharmender’s film Baharen Phir Bhi Ayegi. Mahendra Kapoor also sang important songs in the blockbusters of Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. In Raj Kapoor’s Sangam his song “har dil jo pyar karega” with Mukesh and Lata became super hit. In Dilip Kumar’s films Ram Aur Shyam and Aadmi, his songs were impressive.

Mahendra Kapoor started a new innings with Manoj Kumar’s film Upkaar. He sang numerous number of patriotic songs for Manoj Kumar including “rang de basanti chola” in the film Shahid, “mere desh ki dharti “ in the film Upkaar, etc. He contributed in films like Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Kranti, etc.

It is not possible to highlight the contribution of Mahendra Kapoor who had contributed in bollywood films for more than 40 years in a small article. Numerous listeners miss Mahendra Kapoor but remember him in his melodious songs. His songs and films should be restored.

Her super hit film Salaam Namaste with Saif Ali Khan was based in Australia. Even Rakesh Roshan’s mega project Koi Mil Gaya was also based in Australia and Preeti Zinta’s career was given new turn along with Hrithik Roshan. Besides earlier her acceptance of any role was backed her age and popularity amongst viewers. Her film Kya Kehna was accepted by the viewers, her role in Kabhi Alvida Ne Kehna opposite Shahrukh Khan was also accepted. She was sublime in Salman Khan’s film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, etc. , where Rani Mukherjee also played major part. Even last year her performance in the film The Heroes opposite Salman Khan was appreciated by the viewers. Her record in bollywood films show that she had achieved name, recognition and identity in bollywood films. The test of popularity is under scanner as the new actresses had created fierce competition in the recent years. Besides, the role of smart tall models like the ones played by Priyanka Chopra in Dostana or Katrina Kaif in Race or Lara Dutta in Partner cannot suit Preeti Zinta. From the time she acted in the film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom her fortune started going in the other direction. She had been busy playing the role of franchisee in the context IPL Cricket League. Her team Kings Eleven Punjab had faced a lot of hurdles and she got involved in keeping her team alive in IPL League. If it had brought smiles in the faces of cricket lovers, it had raised eyebrows in the minds of audience of bollywood films. Her presence in recent films is decreasing day by day. Viewers expect her to face the odds and still make valuable contribution in bollywood films as there is no doubt that she is still beautiful, fare, talented and crowdpuller. It is very strange that Kareena Kapoor did not even get a nomination in Filmfare Awards 2012.

There was a time when filmfare awards had a lot to do with public sentiments. In 1964, the biggest blockbuster was Sangam. During that year the filmfare award for the best actress went to Vaijayantimala for Sangam. In the same year, Raj Kapoor won the filmfare award for the best director for his work in the film Sangam.

The days had changed. The meaning of awards had also changed. In 2011, the biggest blockbuster was Bodyguard. To everyone’s surprise Kareena Kapoor did not get even a nomination of best actress award in filmfare 2012. From 2009, Kareena Kapoor had featured in successful films opposite the superstars, Amir Khan in The Three Idiots, Salman Khan in Bodyguard and Shahrukh Khan in Ra One. Both Ra One and Bodyguard had been released in 2011, and the performance of Kareena Kapoor in both these films was per excellence. It is another case that Vidya Balan had given an excellent performance in the dirty picture and may be the biggest candidate for the best actress award. But if the competition is between Vidya Balan and Kareena Kapoor, it makes sense. But the competition is between performance in flop films like Mahie Gill in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and Priyanka Chopra in Saat Khoon Maaf, it makes no sense.

The male category is a bit better. But the fight should be between Salman Khan in Bodyguard, Ajay Devgan in Singham and Shahrukh Khan in Don 2. Ranbir Kapoor had won the best actor award in Colourscreen, so may win the filmfare also.

The best music director nominees are horrible altogether. The film Ready became successful due to popular music of Pritam. Pritam did not get a nomination even. Same is with the case of Himesh Reshammiya in Bodyguard. It is very obvious that AR Rehman is going to win the award, as the nominations are absurt with candidates like Ram Sampat in Delhi Belly, Sohail Sen in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.It is even strange that the composer of popular music in film Bodyguard, Himesh Reshammiya never get any nomination. But the singer of the song of that composer gets a nomination, the example is Shreya Ghoshal in the song “teri meri” in the film Bodyguard. The chances are for Mohit Chouhan to win the award for the song “sada haq” in the film Rockstar.

Filmfare awards had lost the genuineness and transparency. It has become just any other awards. Gone were the days when Dilip Kumar winning the best actor award 8 times showed his supremacy over Raj Kapoor, or Shankar Jaikishan winning the best music director award 9 times showed his brilliance over Naushad Ali, Roshanlal Nagrath and others.

AR Rehman won the best music director award for his music in the film Rockstar. It is very strange that Pritam did not get a nomination also for his music in the film Ready and Himesh Reshammiya did not get a nomination even for his music in the film Bodyguard. Good music was one of the reasons for the success of the film Bodyguard which did business worth 160 crores. If popular choice actors, actresses, singers, composers, don’t get any award, most of the awards look meaningless. Mohit Chauhan won the best male singer award for the song “phir se ud chala” in the film Rockstar, while Shreya Ghoshal won the best female singer award for the song “ooh lala ooh lala” in the film Dirty Picture.

It was an entertaining experience. In the first round all the celebrities were supposed to catch lata fish. It was a difficult job as the fishes are slippery and did spill a lot of water. Geetasri Roy caught the maximum number of lata fish. In the second round singer Monomoy asked them musical questions. The participants answered the questions in their own way. Monomoy sang the song “hoton se chulon tum”, and asked questions from the song. In the next round there were other questions relating to cookery, word-puzzles, etc. June Malia asked the actresses about the new turning points in their life in the serials. Tilottama Dutta said she was going to get married in the serial Kanakanjali. The question was with whom she was going to get married, Rupam or Manas. At the end of the show Geetasri Roy became the Didi No. 1, as she answered maximum number of questions correctly. June Malia anchored the program very well.

She was the sister of successful star Shilpa Shirodkar and also a colourful personality. She showed her skills in the fashion world as well. She did extremely well in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s film Pukar, opposite Anil Kapoor. She played the role of the daughter of a military major and interacted with Anil Kapoor. Anil Kapoor wanted to marry her, but her mother played by Rohini Hattangiri, was not interested as she got sick with the life military personnel. Madhuri Dixit was a friend of Anil Kapoor, and due to jealousy with Namrata Shirodkar, she hatched a plan of disgracing Anil Kapoor. A false case was filed against him and he was thrown out from the armed forces. Namrata also left for accomplishing her career as a model and Anil Kapoor had to struggle to prove himself to be innocent. The film took a turn in the second half as Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit worked together to prevent a terrorist attack from Danny and his men. Anil Kapoor received national award for his impressive performance in Pukar. Namrata’s performance was well appreciated. Namrata Shirodkar was sublime in her role in the film Aghaaz. Sunil Shetty came to the city of Mumbai for education of her sister. But as Sunil Shetty did not fulfill the demands of the underworld group in the film, his sister was raped. Sunil Shetty filed a suit against all the members of the housing complex to make them aware of their responsibilities. All of them had scene the incident yet due to fear none of them raised any hue or cry. Namrata Shirodkar helped Sunil Shetty a lot in understanding the nature of people in Mumbai who were professionals and not as simple as rural people. Her friendship with Sunil Shetty was depicted well in the film. She even played a significant role in getting his sister admitted in a college in the neighbouring area. Sunil Shetty united the local people in their fight against the demands of the underworld and killed the suspected culprits. Namrata did her best in the film Vastav, opposite Sanjay Dutt. It was film totally based on the underworld people in Mumbai. Sanjay Dutt, who was a law-abiding citizen, killed one of the underworld person and from that time went on killing the other mafias and became an underworld don. But he also faced the agonies of living a life full of fear against the police. Namrata Shirodkar played the role of the wife of Sanjay Dutt in the film. She adjusted herself with the life led by Sanjay Dutt. Sanjay Dutt received filmfare award for his performance in the film. Namrata Shirodkar left films at a time when she was being given good offers and challenging roles by many bollywood directors and producers. The viewers of bollywood films expect her to make a comeback as it there is requirement of experienced actresses in characters roles in modern films.

Dev and Subhasree in Khokababu. Superstar Dev, Subhasree, Rishi and the entire team of Khokababu stormed Mithun Chakravarty’s Dadagiri Program on 12th January, 2012. The other stars included Locket Chatterjee, who played a role in the film Khokababu, and the song writer of the film. Dev and Subhasree had given many super hit Bengali films in the past. Their film Romeo released in 2011 did great business. Mithun Chakravarty allowed them to promote their film Khokababu in Dadagiri Program in Zee Bangla Channel on Thursday. Dev asked Mithun Chakravarty who was his biggest competitor in his illustrious career. In reply Mithun Chakravarty said that Amitabh Bacchan was a very successful star of the period but after Mithun’ s entire struggle he considered himself his own competitor and tried to better. Even if a big mountain was put in front of him he would have climbed on that and overcome it. Dev confessed that he was absolute admirer of Mithun Chakravarty. Subhasree asked Mithun that it has been said that behind the success of every man always there is contribution of a woman. Mithun said whenever there is one woman, there are chances of success, when there are two women there are chances of trouble. At the end of the show the music director Rishi answered the maximum number of questions in the quick or quack round and became the champion. There was no elimination in any of the rounds because all the contestants were celebrities. Dev had in fact sung a song titled “khokababu” in the film Khokababu. It has been the first time Dev had sung any song. Mithun Chakravarty wished best of luck for the film which is scheduled to get released on Friday, 13th Janurary, 2012.

Minisha Lamba created an impression and bagged an important role in Madhur Bhandarkar’s successful film Corporate. Corporate was based on the complexities faced by the workers and the employers of the corporate world which is crude reality in the metros. Most of the employees in the corporate world become mentally sick with the monotonous work culture and demand of fulfilling targets. Bipasha Basu gave a lifetime performance in the film and Minisha Lamba also was appreciated for her strong performance. She acted in small budget films like Anthony Kaun Hai, Dus Kahaniya, Honeymoon Travels Kaun Hai and became a regular actress in contemporary films. Then she got a lifetime role in the film Bacchan Aye Haseeno, opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Newcomers in bollywood dream about getting roles under the Yashraj Banner. Minissha Lamba got the role in the very early part of her career. Bacchna Aye Haseeno was the story of Ranbir Kapoor who had met three different girls in his life and each of the girls had a great influence on his character. She did well opposite Boman Irani in Shyam Benegal’s film Well done Abba. Minissha Lamba was sublime in the film and showed signs of a matured actress. In 2012 she had acted in the film Joker opposite Akshay Kumar and Zilla Ghaziabad opposite Sanjay Dutt and Vivek Oberoi. With a number of new actresses like Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Asin, increasing the competition amongst heroines, Minissha Lamba has a challenging task of maintaining her stardom and perform even better in the new films in future.

Apurbo Roy presented his story related to English Professor from Oxford University. His funny English made Subhashish Mukherjee, Paran Banerjee and others absolutely spellbound. Rajatavo Dutta said that Subhashis Mukherjee played the best Jayasingha character in Bisarjan Play in Kolkata. He also referred the performance of Subhashish Mukherjee in the film Harvard. Mir Afsar Ali had asked did Subhashish Mukherjee feel bored by only getting comedy roles when he had the potentials of great character artist. He said it was a pity, he hardly got other types of roles. But with the identity of comedian he got recognition so he was happy about it. At the same time Abu Henna Ronnie, Vicky, Partho, Sangeet Tiwary all performed together in a play related to Mommy. Mohammad Zahil Hussain performed well. Mir asked him to sing the song “mirakkele aste chaan”. Fatik Purokayet (Maduli) again did a great job. Srilekha Mitra appreciated him.

Mir Afsar Ali mentioned that Zee Mirakkel Program in Zee Bangla Channel got an extention. The finale will be held in March, 2012. After that new contestants will be competing against the champions. The auditions will be held on 29th January in Kolkata. Vicky and Partho played the role of father of bride and member of band party. They did a great job. Fatik Purokayet (Maduli) told his jokes. Judge Srilekha Mitra got little annoyed saying most of his jokes were women-centric, which was unnecessary. Tanima Sen, the guest judge, said, there was nothing wrong. Everyone came to laugh and Fatik made them laugh. Sangeet Tiwary and Palash Adhikari did a great job. Tanima Sen told about her understanding with Paran Banerjee in plays and films. Apurbo Roy imitated Tarzan and was again praised by Rajatavo Dutta, Srilekha Mitra and Paran Banerjee. Mir anchored the program very well.

Ranbir Kapoor won the best actor award for his performance in the film Rockstar in Big Star Entertainment awards 2012. Vidya Balan won best actress award for her performance in the film Dirty Picture.

Dirty Picture and Singham won the award for the best film in 2012. Salman Khan won the best actor award in an action role for his performance in the film Bodyguard. Amitabh Bacchan won the best actor award in a social role for his performance in the film Aarakshan. Farhan Akhtar won the best actor award in a comic role.

Kareena Kapoor won the best actress award in a romantic role for her performance in the film Bodyguard. Rani Mukherjee won the best actress award in a social role for her performance in the film No One Killed Jessica. Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor won the award for the best onscreen couple for their performance in the film Bodyguard.

The film Ready was adjudged the best comedy film of the year. Bodyguard won the award for the best action film of the year. Rockstar won the award for the best romantic film of the year. No One Killed Jessica won the award for the best social film of the year. Mohit Chauhan won the award for the best singer for his performance in the song Saada Haq in the film Rockstar. Shreya Ghoshal won the award for the best singer for her performance in the song Teri Meri in the film Bodyguard. Himesh Reshammiya and Pritam won the award for the music director for their performance in the film Bodyguard.

More or less all the majority of actors and actresses were rewarded. Even then the best actor award should have gone to Salman Khan for his performance in the film Bodyguard. The best actress award should have gone to Kareena Kapoor for her performance in the film Bodyguard. Ranbir Kapoor won the award for his hard work. But the biggest business was done in the year by the film Bodyguard. In that perspective Salman Khan’s performance was better than Ranbir Singh’s performance in the year 2012.

Players will do moderate business.

Abhishek Bacchan, Bipasha Basu in Players Abbas Mustan’s crime thriller film Players that had been released on 6th January will do moderate business. Pritam had composed the music of the film. The film was made with a budget of 45 crores. The main roles were given to Abhishek Bacchan, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vinod Khanna. There were supporting roles played by Bobby Deol, Omi Vaidya, Johnny Lever and Sikander Kher. The film had been related to theft of gold from a train in Russia. The hackers, the magicians and others’ help was required. Everyone contributed in the operation. But Neil Nitin Mukesh betrayed. He killed Bobby Deol. Bipasha Basu pretended to have been shot by Neil Nitin Mukesh, but later colluded with him. At the end Abhishek Bacchan identified them in New Zealand with the help of Sonam Kapoor, Sikander Kher and Omi Vaidya. Johnny Lever, a car maker helped them for getting cars made of different materials. Sonam Kapoor killed Neil Nitin Mukesh at the end of the film. The music of Pritam in the film had not been impressive. Excepting the song “dil yeh bekarar kyun hai” sung by Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal, none of the other songs impressed the viewers. Vinod Khanna lost weight, yet impressed with his performance. Bipasha Basu and Abhishek Bachhan did well. But Sonam Kapoor did not rise up to the occasion to match the stylish character. Abbas Mustan had given super hit films in the past like Soldier and Ajnabee with Bobby Deol. It was very surprising that this time he had underused Bobby Deol. Bobby Deol had always given quality performances in stylish roles. The other factor was that the operation was too technical. There are chances of the film doing well oversees. But the Indian audience had not adjusted themselves to too technical subject matter. The plot was good and the execution very stylish. Even after the great effort the film is likely to do moderate business.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to superstar Hrithik Roshan on 10^th January, 2012. He has been considered as one of the greatest style icons of India and probably the most dynamic actor ever to grace Indian silver screen. In 2010, he won the award for the style icon  in Lux Sabse Favourite Kaun award.

2012 will be a very important year for him. His film Agneepath is going to be released in January itself. He acted in the same role which Big B had played 20 years back. He had acted opposite Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor, so viewers are curious to see his performance in the film. He is also working on the film Krrish 2 which is going to be released at the end of the year.

When he appeared in his father Rakesh Roshan’s project Kaho Na Pyar Hai in 2000, he broke all types of records that were set up in Indian cinema in respect of revenues derived from successful films. He played a double role with the title Rohit as an Indian and Raj as a Kiwi citizen. The smartness and elegance that he showed in the Kiwi character was unparallel considering the capability of all the leading superstars of the country. He acted opposite Amisha Patel who was also sublime in the film. Last but not the least his dancing capability was appreciated by every section of the crowd, especially in songs like “pyar ki kashti me”, “kaho na pyar hai”, “haseeno ki mehfil”, etc.

But after the success in Kaho Na Pyar Hai, his off-beat films like Fiza and Mission Kashmir did not get proper response from the crowd. He gave spirited performance opposite Karishma Kapoor in Fiza and Preeti Zinta in Mission Kashmir. In fact he dared to even act in a negative character in the film Mission Kashmir opposite Sanjay Dutt in the early part of his career, which other actors of his age would not have dared to do. He gave adequate lips in the song “bhumaro bhumaro” in Mission Kashmir.

After a series of medium budget films like Mai Pyar Ki Diwani Hoon, he again stormed box-office with the success of his film Koi Mil Gaya. He received the filmfare award for the best actor again with dynamic performance in the role of a mentally retarded person. The film was shot in Australia by director Rakesh Roshan and Preeti Zinta and Rekha did very well in their respective roles. The relationship with Aliens was well expressed by Hrithik Roshan.

He again received filmfare award for best actor in the film Dhoom 2. Again he acted in a negative character in the form of international thief. He became notorious for his planned stealing operations in partnership with Aishwarya Rai. His deeds or misdeeds were detected by the intelligent investigator played by Abhishek Bacchan. He left him without charges after Hrithik transferred the stolen property to Abhishek Bacchan. Hrithik Roshan showed some acrobatic stunts which only Hollywood actors could have taken in the film. The dance performance in the song “dhoom machale” was brilliant by international standards.

Hrithik Roshan made the viewers speechless with his dynamic performance in the film Krishh. He acted opposite Priyanka Chopra and exhibited the supernatural powers that he inherited from his father who received them from aliens. The scenic beauty of South East Asian countries amazed the viewers along with the performance of Hrithik Roshan.

In 2008, Hrithik Roshan’s brilliant performance in the role of Mughal Emperor Akbar astonished the viewers. He complimented the dynamic performance of Aishwarya Rai in the film Jodha Akbar which was first blockbuster of 2008. He won the filmfare award for the best actor in 2009 for best performance in Jodha Akbar. His other hit films included Laksh, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, etc.

Indian viewers are not that much fond of westernized performances, otherwise with the multitalented approach to films, Hrithik Roshan would have dethroned Shahrukh Khan from the Number One position long time back.

Viewers waited for the 2 grand releases of Hrithik Roshan, namely Kites and Guzarish in 2010. Both the films did not do well in the box-office. If Spanish version being inadmissible and ununderstandable to rural mass of India was the root cause for average business of Kites, lack of interest towards serious films on the part of the audience may have effected Guzarish. But Hrithik Roshan acted well in both the films.  Even with limited success, the viewers expect Hrithik Roshan to continue his good work and do even better in the years to come.

Pritha Chatterjee said she had been resident of Sintheemore area in North Kolkata. In the first round where she was required to pluck fruits after standing on trampoline she got 30 points. Swaralipi Chatterjee also got 30 points and she also succeeded in plucking the fruits.

Pritha Chatterjee acted in Bengali serial Rashi. Aditi Chatterjee acted in Bengali serial Ek Akasher Niche. Swaralipi Chatterjee acted in Bengali serial Agniparikkha. In the musical round Neel was brought. He asked the celebrities to sing the mukhra of those songs for which he sang the antara. He sang the songs “mono dilo na bodhu” sung by SD Burman. He also sang RD Burman’s song “shono mon boli tomai”. The participants did well in that round.

At the end Swaralipi Chatterjee became Didi No. 1. She answered all the 5 questions in Jackpot round and won Bed, Airconditioner, Music System and other things. June Malia anchored the program very well.

AR Rehman’s receiving of Oscar for specific song and background score of the film Slumdog Millionaire had been a reward for the excellent music he had composed in Indian films during the last 15 years. That includes the music for the films in bollywood industry and South Indian industry. The film produced by Anil Kapoor had shown the realistic picture of the reaction of the police department whenever a slumdweller earns huge sum of money after participating in a quiz competition held in a TV Channel. The depiction of the life in a slum is well appreciated by both the intellectual viewers and also the general audience. The background score created by AR Rehman had created theme music for the film. In fact as the film was realistic in nature there was not much scope of creating that many number of songs. In fact the Indians are very happy about the recognition of AR Rehman due to his consistent composition of legendary tunes. AR Rehman had entertained the viewers with his innovative music for more than 15 years. His music in the film Roja, with Arvind Swamy and Madhu astonished the viewers of bollywood films a lot in the early 90s. The songs “roja janeman” and “dil hai chota sa” became super hit in the early 90s. Chitra, Hariharan and other singers contributed very well in the film Roja. AR Rehman’s music in the film Bombay was successful as well. Songs like “tu hi re” sung by Hariharan stormed bollywood films. AR Rehman was sublime in the film Saathiya. Sonu Nigam’s song “saathiya” and other songs of the film were very melodious. A R Rehman was brilliant in Taal. Songs like “ishq bina kya jina”, “rabba jogi” etc. were unique in nature. In 2008, all the tunes of AR Rehman were unique. The songs in the film Jodha Akbar had mughal andaz like the one “khwaja meri khwaja”. In Jane Tu Yaa Jane Na, AR Rehman catered to the tastes of the young crowds. Songs like “pappu cant dance sala”, “kabhi kabhi aditi” were full of energy and rhythm. On the other hand the music in the film Yuvvraaj, was romantic with songs like “tu hi to meri dost hai”, “shanno shanno”. Viewers feel that AR Rehman still has a lot of music left in him. He is expected to do more experiments in the films in future after winning the Oscar award for Slumdog Millionaire.

The nominations for Zee Cine Awards 2012 that is going to take place in Macau on 29^th January, 2012 had been announced. The fight for the best award is between Vidya Balan for Dirty Picture and Kareena Kapoor for Bodyguard. Although Priyanka Chopra in Saat Khoon Maaf, Katrina Kaif in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Kangana Ranaut in Tanu Weds Manu had got nominations in the same category, the chances of them winning the award are very remote. Kareena Kapoor and Vidya Balan had been the best actresses of the year.

Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan are the contenders for the best male actor award. Sharukh Khan got 2 nominations for Ra One and Don 2, but his performance in Don 2 had been appreciated more. Salman Khan had given 2 great blockbusters in 2011 Bodyguard and Ready. But he had been nominated for the best actor for the film Bodyguard. This year he deserves the award. Shahrukh Khan had got 2 nominations for Ra one and Don 2 and he is also the host of the show to be held in Macau on 29^th January, 2012. Ajay Devgan for Singham, Hrithik Roshan for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Hrithik Roshan for Rockstar are the other nominees for the best actor.

The best film is to be chosen between Bodyguard, Don 2, Singham. All these films had done great business during the year. The directors of these films Siddique, Farhan Akhtar and Rohit Shetty deserve best director award. It is interesting to see who gets the award.

She faced the strong competition of the performers of the 70s and yet could survive for more than 15 years in bollywood films. She came at a time when Hema Malini, Rekha, Parveen Babi, Zeenat Aman and other actresses were at their peak. But she impressed the viewers with her natural performance in Subhash Ghai’s film Kalicharan, opposite Shatrughun Sinha. The film was based on the story of a prisoner who was reformed and given training to work in the police force and thereafter help the investigation agency in tracking down the culprits. Reena Roy’s dance performance in the song “jareja” sung by Lata, was well appreciated. She was also successful opposite Shatrughun Sinha in the film Vishwanath. She did extremely well opposite Rishi Kapoor and Jeetender in the film Badalte Rishte which was released in late 70s. Her film Aasha opposite Jeetender was a box-office success without brilliant songs sung by Rafi and Lata including “ashawon ki sawan me” composed by LP. In the late 70s Reena Roy kept her mark with her performance in the film Nagin. It was a multistarrer film where Firoz Khan, Mumtaz, Jeetender, Sunil Dutt, all were sublime in their respective roles. The story was based on fantasy where the snakes changed their form and took revenge against human beings who had killed their fellow snakes at different periods of time. Although the story had no practical base, but the entertaining performance of most of the stars including Reena Roy, converted a normal film into a hit venture. Reena Roy acted in multistarrer films of other directors like Manmohan Desai. In Naseeb, she played the role of a worker in a restaurant where Big B himself worked. She had to do play acting with Big B to convince Hema Malini that Big B was a bad person and marry Shatrughun Sinha. The film became extremely successful with powerful performance of Shatrughun Sinha, Rishi Kapoor and Hema Malini. The music of the film was extremely successful. Pran and Amzad Khan played key roles in negative characters. She was extremely successful in the multi-starrer film Jaani Dushman. Again she was cast opposite Shatrughun Sinha. She loved Sunil Dutt but Shatrughun Sinha had weakness towards her in the film. The film was related to horror story with star performances from Jeetender, Sanjeev Kumar, Rekha and Amrish Puri. In the 80s, with the advent of action films new action stars adorned bollywood films. Actors like Rajnikant tried their luck in bollywood after playing successful innings in South Indian films. Even during that period Reena Roy was successful in her performance opposite Rajnikant in the film Andha Kanoon. She played the role of the wife of Rajnikant in the film which was released in 1983 and became super hit. Andha Kanoon was related to the revenge that was taken by Rajnikant against Pran, Prem Chopra and Danny after they killed his family members. Reena Roy played the romantic character opposite Rajnikant and kept her mark opposite many stars in the film. Later on she married Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan and left films. But even these days whenever she is seen in character roles like the one in Abhishek Bacchan’s film Refugee which was released in 2000, the viewers enjoy her presence to a big extent. The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Deepika Padukone on 5^th January, 2012. Deepika Padukone, the daughter of renowned badminton player Prakash Padukone, started her career in the fashion world from where the producers and directors got impressed.

She made a dream debut in the film Om Shanti Om, opposite Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh Khan was one of the biggest icons of bollywood films till 2007.  Akshay Kumar had shaken up the box-office domination of Shahrukh Khan after giving many blockbusters in the last few years. It was a dream which came true for Deepika Padukone to act opposite Shahrukh Khan in the romantic blockbuster. Farah Khan and Shahrukh Khan searched a new face for the film. Deepika Padukone answered their query.

The film was related to reincarnation. Deepika Padukone and Shahrukh Khan had double roles in the film. Deepika was killed by breaking out of fire in a grand studio. The entire story of her death was recreated to bring the perpetrators of crime before the people at large. The soul of Deepika Padukone did the rest.

The film had similar story line like that of Karz. But the excellent music of the film and decent performance from Deepika Padukone and Shahrukh Khan had converted a decent film into a commercially successful mission. The songs of Sonu Nigam and others like “tumko paya  hai to jaise”, “om shanty om”, “ankho me teri”, etc., became landmark hits in 2007.

Deepika Padukone bagged the best debutant award in the filmfare and Om Shanti Om bagged filmfare awards under different categories. As Deepika Padukone created a huge expectation from the performance in the first film the viewers started believing in her capability in the following films as well.

She did well again in 2008 in the film Bacchna Aye Haseeno opposite Ranbir Kapoor, Minissha Lamba and Bipasha Basu. The film was related to the story of how Ranbir Kapoor met three girls namely Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba and how their interaction created an impact in the life of Ranbir Kapoor.

Again the fabulous locations and quality music composed by Vishal Shekhar impressed the viewers. The hit songs included “bacchna aye haseeno”, “ki mujhe pyar hai”, etc. Deepika Padukone probably matched Ranbir Kapoor the best if compared with the other performers in the same film.

In 2009, Deepika’s much awaited film Chandni Chowk To China was released in January. She had acted opposite superstar Akshay Kumar who had shown his action skills and comedy skills as well in the film. For the requirement of the film Deepika Padukone had learned martial art as well which was done by Priyanka Chopra in the past. But the film did mediocre business.

The other film of Deepika Padukone that was released in 2009 was Love Aaj Kaal. It was the film of Saif Ali Khan and he acted opposite Deepika Padukone. The film became a big hit and the romantic combination of Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone was accepted by the audience. The music of Pritam was well appreciated by the audience including the song “chor bazari”.

After that Deepika Padukone had acted in many films in 2010, including Billo Barbar, Lafange Parindey, Larenge Hum Ji Jaanse, etc., and acted opposite many actors including Farhan Akshtar, Abhishek Bacchan (where he played the role of Masterda Surjo Sen in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s flm), etc.

2011 had been a successful year for Deepika Padukone. Her performance opposite Saif Ali Khan and Big B in the film Aarakshan had been appreciated by the viewers. The film did excellent business too. The viewers expect Deepika Padukone to revive her position and continue her great work in the years to come in bollywood films and other films.
