Still Bahubali 2 film remains the greatest crowdpuller of the decade in Indian market.

Bahubali 2 broke all box office records, the photography and effects were sensational. Bahubali 2 released at the end of April, 2017, broke all the box records in India. The film had been named Bahubali 2: The Conclusion. SS Rajamouli directed the film. It is the sequel of the film Bahubali: The beginning. After being released in Telegu and Tamil the film had been translated in all the Indian languages. With a budget of Rs 250 crores, the film already had done business of more than 550 crores. The film is even running strong in the theatres and has all possibility of crossing 600 crores. After Prabhash (Amarendra Bahubali) was declared king of Mahismati, his mother Ramya Krishnan (Rajmata Sivagami) looked for a bride for Bahubali. Bahubali and Katappa (Satyaraj) went to tour the entire Kingdom. Bahubali fell in love with Anushka Shetty (Devasena), the princess of Kuntala Kingdom. Rana Daggubati (Bhallala Deva), the brother conspired due to advise of his father Nasser (Bijjaladeva) and got the promise of Ramya Krishnan to marry Anushka Shetty. Ramya Krishnan promised him the bride without knowing Bahubali was in love with Anushka Shetty. When the marriage proposal was send by Ramya Krishnan to Kuntala Kingdom, Anushka Shetty rejected the proposal. Ramya Krishnan ordered Bahubali and Katappa to capture her and bring her to Mahismati. In the meantime Kuntala was attacked by Pindaris (a dacoit community). Amarendra Bahubali saved kingdom of Kuntala with his bravery. He convinced Anuskha Shetty and brought her to Mahismati. When the misunderstanding was unfolded, Bahubali was given the choice either be the king of Mahismati or marry Anushka Shetty. He married Anushka Shetty. Rana Daggubati became the king. On killing one of the generals who molested the women, Bahubali was banished and asked to leave the kingdom. Anushka Shetty gave birth to Bahubali’s son Mahendra Bahubali. Rana Daggubati with Bijjaladeva hatched a plan and convinced Ramya Krishnan that Bahubali wanted to kill the king. So Katappa was ordered to Kill Bahubali. Under compulsion Katappa stapped Bahubali from the back. But Katappa unfolded the truth before Ramya Krishnan, that Bahubali never wanted to kill Rana Daggubati. Ramya Krishnan, with the baby Mahendra Bahubali declared before the people that his father Amarendra had died, but Mahendra is the future king of Mahismati. Ramya Krishnan, saved the little baby, Mahendra Bahubali, but died from sword of Rana Duggabati. Kuntala was destroyed and Devasena (Anushka Shetty) was kept as prisoner. Mahendra Bahubali grew up, learned guerilla warfare and with the men of king of Kuntala (Meka Ramakrishna) who was ousted from Kingdom of Kuntala made his force and faced Rana Duggabati. Rana Duggabati, by treachery again captured Anushka Shetty, the mother of Mahendra Bahubali. A furious war took place in the palace of Mahismati. Mahendra Bahubali smashed Rana Duggabati and burned him alive in the pyre prepared by Anushka Shetty (Devasena). Mahendra Bahubali became the king and Tamanna (Avantika) the queen of Mahismati. The performances of Prabhash, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Satyaraj were outstanding by every yardstick. Anushka Shetty looked very beautiful in the film. Prabhash with his muscular body and kingly looks stole the hearts of millions of Indians. The technical excellence took the film to Hollywood standard. Credit goes to KV Vijayendra Prasad, the screen writer, RC Kamalakanan, (visual effects), Kotagiri Venkateswara Prasad (Editing), PM Satheesh (Sound Designer), King Solomon, Lee Whittaker, Kecha, and Peter Hein, (stunt sequences). Those who saw the film in big theatres, realize that they have not seen an Indian film of such a technical brilliance like Bahubali 2 before. The film created sensation. It should be a torch bearer for more period films and films related to royal kingdoms in future. Those who did not get scope to see the film should see it in multiplexes or single-screen theatres.

Feroz Khan sahab is remembered both on death anniversary and birth anniversary.

The nation remembers style icon Feroz Khan on his birth anniversary. The nation remembers Feroz Khan on his birth anniversary on 25th September, 2022. He had died in 2009, and the nation had missed the style icon very badly. Feroz Khan started his career with romantic films. His performance in the film Aarzoo, in the mid-60s with Rajender Kumar and Sadhna is well remembered even today. He played the role of friend of Rajender Kumar who sacrificed his wife for the best interest of his friend Rajender Kumar. While Feroz Khan’s performance in romantic films like Ek Sapera Aur Ek Lutera was well appreciated, his skills in action films like Aadmi Aur Insaan, Mela, etc., created a separate identity for himself. Feroz Khan did a great job in the film Oonche Log along with Raj Kumar and Ashok Kumar. It was a romantic film with Rafi’s romantic song “jag dil-e diwana”. Feroz Khan was killed at the end of the film by Tarun Bose. From the 70s, Feroz Khan got involved in production and direction of his own films and created gold in the next 20 years. His film Apradh with Mumtaz became super hit. He brought in many dimensions of car driving in Indian cinema. He showed car racing in Apradh. His film Dharmatma with Hema Malini and Rekha created history in the mid-70s. It was modeled in the lines of Hollywood film Godfather where Marlon Brando played the lead role. Part of the film was shot in Dubai, and from that time Feroz Khan used Dubai for shooting many of his blockbuster films. Feroz Khan’s action style mesmerized the viewers. He gave a stylish performance in the film Khote Sikke and Kala Sona. His Robinhood like image haunted the viewers. He did wear a black dress which was very popular among the youngstars of the 1970s. Whatever he did wear in his young days used to declare fashion statement. His style of riding cars, riding horses and jugglery with the guns showed touch of Hollywood actors. With the advent of action films in the mid-70s with the emerging of Amitabh Bacchan in the bollywood scenario, Feroz Khan’s demand in action film increased and increased. His film Qurbani with Vinod Khanna and Zeenat Aman created storms in the early 80s. Rafi’s song ‘kya dekhteho” picturised on Feroz Khan, became hit in the early 80s. He gave a new definition to action films with the film Jaanbaaz, where he protested against the trade of LSD and other Narcotic drugs. Villains like Raza Murad and Shakti Kapoor gained prominence from Feroz Khan’s films. Feroz Khan used Anil Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia and Sri Devi in Jaanbaaz in his unique style. His film Yaalgaar with Sanjay Dutt, Manisha Koirala and Kabir Bedi also became super hit in the early 90s. One of the other shades of character of Feroz Khan was to promote the newcomers. He acknowledged the brilliant skills of Vinod Khanna, Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, who were much younger than him and formed the next generation of actors. Feroz Khan maintained his body for more than 30 years and that was the reason who could act opposite three generation of actresses, including Sadhna in Aarzoo in 1965, to Hema Malini in Dharmatma in 1975, to Sri Devi in Jaanbaaz in 1985. In the late 90s he promoted his own son Fardeen Khan. Even in recent films like Welcome he showed his c

The brilliant dance steps of Rajashreeji gave a separate space in the world of successful actresses of bollywood.

Rajashree – the classical dancer of the 60s. Rajashree, daughter of famous director V. Shantaram and classical dancer Sandhya, made a notable contribution in bollywood films in the 60s. She faced very strong competition from Vaijayantimala, Sadhna, Asha Parekh, Saira Banu, and yet maintained her stardom in hit films opposite leading stars of bollywood films. She was extremely successful opposite Shammi Kapoor, in the film Janwar. Shammi Kapoor brought westernized mannerisms in bollywood films in the 60s, and his style was enhanced by fantastic music composed by Shankar Jaikishan, and colourful locations where the films were picturised. The same thing happened in the film Janwar. Most part of the film was picturised in Jammu & Kashmir, and the songs of Rafi like “lal chadi”, “tumse accha kaun hai”, etc., became super hit. Rajashree had adequate classical training for exhibiting her dancing skills which she showed in the song “mere sang ga gunguna”. The second part of the film dealt with the conspiracy committed against Shammi Kapoor, and her marriage with Shammi Kapoor got stuck due to those reasons. Over all her performance was very impressive and the film became super hit. The same combination was again successful in the film Brahmchari. Shammi Kapoor ran an orphan house where the children were brought by him and he did not marry to help out the orphan children in the film. Rajashree intereacted with Shammi Kapoor in the film and for different reasons, Shammi Kapoor taught her to be modern and arranged her marriage with Pran. After knowing that Pran had a very bad reputation in society and was also involved with Mumtaz, the marriage was cancelled and Rajashree was saved at the end of the film. Again the scintillating music of Shankar Jaikishan amused the viewers. All the songs of Rafi including “aajkal tere mere pyar ke charche”, “chakke pe chakka”, “dil ke jharoke me tujhko bithakar”, “mai gayun tum so jayo”, became landmark hits in the late 60s. Rajashree was extremely successful opposite Raj Kapoor in the film Around the World. Raj Kapoor played the role of an innocent person who had to travel all across the world, first as a worker in a ship and then after joining different forms of employments. He was attached with Rajashree during his travel to different places. The fantastic location of West Indies, United States, etc., was balanced by classic music of Shankar Jaikishan once again. Mukesh’s songs “kitna akela hoon mai”, “duniya ka sair kar lo”, “chale jana” became landmark hits in the late 60s. Rajashree acted in successful films opposite the other leading stars of bollywood films in the 60s, including Biswajeet, Joy Mukherjee, Jeetender, to name a few. Most of those films including Sehnai, became successful. Rajashree faded out from the industry in the 70s. Her films should be restored for the next generations.

Bheem frees himself and fights the guards off. Ram shoots and kills a guard over Malli's head to save her. Misunderstanding this as an attack, Bheem beats up Ram and escapes with Malli. Sita reveals that she is Ram's cousin and love interest. She adds that Ram is sentenced to death as he went against the British to save his best friend. Bheem regrets his actions and promises Sita to rescue Ram. Bheem sneaks into the Barracks with the help of blue print given by Jennifer. He frees Ram from the prison, taking him on his shoulder as the latter is unable to walk. Together, they fight the police and escape. Bheem treats Ram, however, the police attack them in the woods. It is also the first Kannada film to release in IMAX. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was generally considered an improvement over its predecessor. Neel's direction, the cinematography and performances (particularly Yash) received praise, but the pace and screenplay attracted criticism. Besides recording the second highest-opening day in India, the film set domestic opening day records in Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam, and surpassed the lifetime gross of its predecessor in two days to become the highest-grossing Kannada film. With earnings of ₹750 crore (US$98 million) globally, K.G.F: Chapter 2 is the eighth highest-grossing Indian film of all time, and also the third highest-grossing film in India. Rocky kills heir apparent Virat and takes charge as the kingpin of Kolar Gold Fields (K.G.F), keeping Reena hostage to ensure the cooperation of Guru Pandian, Andrews and Rajendra Desai, and kills Kamal when he protests. He issues orders to start work in eight hidden mines. Meanwhile, Adheera resurfaces and kills all guards at an outpost. In a ruse to bring Rocky to Adheera, Andrews kills Desai to lure Reena outside K.G.F, and John captures Reena. Adheera shoots Rocky but spares his life, while his men roadblock all gold exports from K.G.F. Meanwhile, Shetty ties up with other subordinates of Andrews across the Western Coast and exterminates Rocky's allies. A recuperated Rocky along with Reena visits Dubai to deal in gold with Inayat Khalil, but Khalil had joined forces with Shetty. Rocky's aides kill Shetty's associates and recaptures the Western Coast, and Khalil deals with Rocky and sells him AK-47s. Rocky and his gang gravely wound Adheera and kill his henchmen with their newly acquired weapons. Rocky kills Shetty, gaining control over Bombay. Pandian warns Rocky of Sen's rising stature but he disregards him. Three years later in 1981, she wins the Indian general elections and becomes Prime Minister. After CBI officer Kanneganti Raghavan briefs her about the situation in K.G.F, she closes all state borders and authorises him to raid Rocky's warehouses. A young Ingalagi is caught spying by Rocky's henchmen, but Rocky is impressed by his integrity. The CBI find nothing in their raids save for a 400 gram-gold bar. Rocky retrieves it from a police station and singlehandedly brings the place down with a DShK. Rocky halts all exports from K.G.F but continues the mining. His aides trace his biological father, a drunkard who abandoned his family, and Rocky anoints the unaware man caretaker of his mother's newly shifted grave. Reena confesses her feelings to Rocky and they get married. Rocky meets with Sen and hands her a file exposing his involvement in money laundering but she cannot consider it as almost all her party members were complicit in the corruption. Still furious after his defeat, Adheera makes his way to K.G.F through a secret passage with Andrews, Daya, John, supported by Khalil's armada. Just as Reena reveals her pregnancy to Rocky, Adheera fatally snipes her. In the ensuing clash, Rocky's army kill Andrews and Daya, while Rocky kills John and chokes Adheera to death. Rocky and his henchmen disrupt Sen's speech at the Parliament and kill Pandian. Pandian had staged the attack on Garuda for which Adheera was framed, and informed Adheera of Garuda's attack priorly. He was also the one who showed Adheera the secret passage, goaded Andrews into hiring Rocky, staged the no-confidence motion drama in Delhi and persuaded Shetty to join forces with Khalil just to gain Rocky's trust. Sen issues a death warrant against Rocky and enforces the Indian Army. Rocky evacuates K.G.F and leaves on a ship with his cache of gold. He signals the Navy to his location but refuses to surrender. Sen issues orders to bomb K.G.F and Rocky's ship, and he drowns in the ocean along with the gold, which stays lost till date. Before leaving, Rocky had formed a new colony for all K.G.F workers. A young Ingalagi decides to write a book on Rocky. In a mid-credits scene, three months post-Rocky's death, a CIA official hands over a file listing Rocky's crimes in United States and 16 other nations between 1978-1981 to Sen. In the present, the peon of the television news channel finds the final draft of K.G.F: Chapter 3.

Happy birth anniversary to legend of legends Manna Dey sahab.

Happy birth anniversary to Manna Dey. The viewers of bollywood films and music lovers all across the country wish happy birthday to Manna Dey on 1st May 2022
. Born on 1st May, 1919, he had contributed in bollywood films for more than 70 years with his baritone voice. He had brilliant classical training and adorned bollywood music with versatile talent. He was awarded the dadasaheb phalke award for his immense contribution to music in India. Manna Dey learned music from Ustad Aman Ali Khan and Ustad Abdul Rahman Khan. He stormed bollywood films with super hit songs in Raj Kapoor’s film Shree 420 in 1955, with immortal songs composed by Shankar Jaikishan like “ramaiya vasta maiyya”, “pyar hua ikraar hua”, “mur mur ke na dekh”. During the golden Manna Dey was probably the only singer other than Mohammad Rafi who had been used by all the leading composers of bollywood music including Shankar Jaikishan in Basant Bahar, the song being “sur na saje”, Madanmohan in Dekh Kabira Roya, the song being “kaun aya mere man ke sware”, Roshan in Dil Hi To Hai, the song being “laga chunari me daag”, SD Burman in Meri Surat Teri Ankhen, the song being “pucho na kaise”, to name a few. Manna Dey had a very sweet relationship with Sudhin Dasgupta. He was used by almost all the leading composers of Bengal namely Anil Bagchi, Nochiketa Ghosh, Salil Choudhury and others. But probably his westernized andaz was used to the limit by Sudhin Dasgupta. Sudhin Dasgupta used Manna Dey in Uttam Kumar’s film Goli Theke Rajpoth with the song “lag lag lag lag bhelkir khela”. Manna Dey’s songs “ami agantuk” and “ke prothom kache esechi” composed by Sudhin Dasgupta in Uttam Kumar’s film Shankhabela created sensation in Bengali celluloid in 1966. Manna Dey’s songs “ami kon pothe je choli” and “bachao ke acho” in Uttam Kumar’s film Choddobeshi became super hit as well. In the 70s, Manna Dey’s songs “esechi ami esechi”, “lekha porata shikhe phele” and “paye paye joriye rakho” in Uttam Kumar’s film Har Mana Har created sensation as well. Uttam Kumar gave the lips of his lifetime in the film Har Mana Har. While major success of Sudhin Dasgupta came in Uttam Kumar’s films, he made major contribution in Soumitra Chatterji’s films as well. The songs “ei shohor theke aro anek dure”, “hoyto tomari jonyo”, “jibone ki pabona” in the film Teen Bhubaner Pare, composed by Sudhin Dasgupta and sung by Manna Dey showed the westernized orchestration of the giant composer. Sudhin Dasupta’s songs in Soumitra’s films Prothom Kodom Phul and Bosonto Bilaap were equally successful. Manna Dey’s all round musical skills were used to perfection in these films. Even the song “ogo tomar sesh bichare asay” sung by Manna Dey in bayul andaz in Kali Banerjee’s legendary film Dak Horkora, and composed by Sudhin Dasgupta made the viewers speechless. Manna Dey sang many numbers of solo numbers as basic discs under the compositions of Sudhin Dasgupta. One of the notable songs included “ami taar thikana rakhini”. The songs of Sudhin Dasgupta and Manna Dey combination should be preserved and restored. Music-lovers wish Manna Dey to continue singing till his last day of life.

The films of legendary actress Nadiraji are still relevant in India.

Nadira – the sizzling star of golden age. Nadira used to be considered a sizzling star of the 50s and 60s, the golden age of bollywood cinema. Her beauty was different than the traditional stars like Nargis or Madhubala, and her charishmatic intonation had created a separate place in the minds of viewers. She acted in the first coloured film of bollywood that is Aan, made in the early 50s opposite Dilip Kumar. From Aan itself, the smartness of Nadira reflected in her acting as the film required horse-riding and adventurous acts which were difficult for other actresses of the same era. In 1955, Raj Kapoor gave the role of her lifetime in the film Shree 420. Her villainish performance in the film did outcast Nargis in the same film. The song “mur murke na dekh” composed by Shankar Jaikishan and sung by Asha Bhosle and Manna Dey was picturised on Nadira and Raj Kapoor. The lips of Nadira created a lasting impact in the minds of the viewers and Shree 420 became a super hit film. The good part of Shree 420 in the career of Nadira was that it made her a rising star. But the bad part was that from that film her image in negative characters got bolstered and producers and directors started casting her in negative roles. In Dil Apna Aur Preeti Parayi, she acted opposite Raj Kumar and Meena Kumari. Raj Kumar had affair with Meena Kumari, a nurse in the film, and after marriage with Nadira, the weakness towards Meena Kumari led to disharmony in the family. Nadira matched Meena Kumari in acting in a musical blockbuster, where once again Shankar Jaikishan amazed the viewers with songs like “ajeeb dastan hai yeh”. Nadira’s strong command over urdu had earned her majestic roles in films like Pakiza, where the muslim pardanashin community was shown. Nadira’s performance in the film was appreciated by the critics who consider the epic film of Kamal Hamrohi, as one of the greatest films of all times. In the mid-70s, with advent of action films, characterization of negative personalities underwent a change. Even in those films Nadira contributed in her own way. Her performance as a step-mother of Shabana Azmi in the film Amar Akbar Anthony created special attraction. Her torture towards Shabana’s family was detected by Vinod Khanna, who was police officer in the film and she was arrested. In the mid-80s, she made valuable contribution in Ramesh Sippy’s romantic film Saagar. She was associated with Kamal Hassan, who made the viewers cry at the end of the film when his romance ended in failure. She loved Dimple Kapadia who was addicted towards Rishi Kapoor. When Rishi Kapoor was attacked by his relatives Kamal Hassan saved at the cost of his own life. Kamal Hassan had special relation with Nadira and he used to disclose his private matters to her. Nadira was compassionate towards Kamal Hassan when she came to know about his sacrifice. In the 90s, Nadira’s performance in the TV serials directed by Gulzar, where Om Puri interviewed her about her film career, was equally impressive. Kamini Kaushal also acted in the serial and matched Nadira in the special role. Nadira’s films should be preserved to grace her remote style of performance having sizzling effect and also lasting appeal.

Oscar winning director Satyajit Ray is remembered on death anniversary.

The nation remembered Satyajit Ray on 23rd April, 2022. The nation remembered Satyajit Ray on his death anniversary on 23rd April, 2021
. Not only he was the recipient of the prestigious Oscar awards, he was the path-breaker in Indian films who taught the next-generation the art of story-telling. In 2010, Society had celebrated the 89th birth anniversary of the legendary director by showcasing some of his notable works like ‘Agantuk’, (The Stranger), ‘Jalsaghar’, (The Music Room), ‘Charulata’, (The lonely wife). The films were shown in Cinemax, Metro Big Cinemas and NCPA. After the films were shown, the significance of such films was discussed by Bhawna Somayya, ex-editor of Screen, filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh and film academicians from all across the country. Besides, discussions were held to highlight the contribution of Ray as a writer, an illustrator, an activist of the film society movement and a filmmaker. Internationally acclaimed directors like Shyam Bengal, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, were greatly influenced by Satyajit Ray’s films like Apu Trilogy, Jalsagar, Nayak, Mahanagar, etc., and they themselves became eminent story-tellers of the following period. The use of nature, the birds, and background, and the use of theme music in translating an unknown event to a group of individuals had enchanted the thoughtful directors all across the world. Even directors of the present period like Goutam Ghosh are influenced by the works of Satyajit Ray. He made Abar Aranye which was a sequel to Satyajit Ray’s film Aranyer Dinratri. A personality like Ray could only make a film like Kanchenjungha, where the greatness of the Himalayas overshadowed the ego of a materialistic industrialist played by Satyajit Ray. An important part of Satyajit Ray’s creations include his literature on diverse subjects. While his Sandip Ray had taken the challenge of converting the Feluda Series into feelings, his literature relating to horror-based subject matters, his series of 12 stories are yet to be converted into films. Sandip Ray’s films Bombaier Bombete, Kailashe Kelenkari, Baksho Rahasya, based on epic literature of Ray had got good response from the viewers. But Ray’s brilliant stories in the 12 series like Ebaro Baro, Aro Baro, Ek Dojon Goppo, Aro Ek Dojon, Eker Pite Dui, are yet to see the light of celluloid. Ray’s stories like Khagam, based on the theme of human being converted into a snake, Pterodactyler dim, based on the prehistoric era, Fritze, based on the topic of life in a doll, Asomongobabur Kukur, based on the weird mannerisms of dogs, had bewildered the readers. If such stories are adapted and made into films, the viewers will enjoy them to the brim. The legacy of Ray whether in the form of neo-realistic films like Pather Panchali, or suspense –thriller stories relating to Feluda Series or Professor Shanku, still continues, even 18 years after his death. The stories should be translated in different languages, and films should be preserved and restored.

Legendary music director Robin Chatterjee mahashoy gave first break to singer Arati Mukherjee.

Singer Arati Mukherjee was given the first break by eminent Bengali composer Robin Chatterjee. Arati Mukherjee gave an exclusive interview in Anandabazar Patrika before Pathik Pandit, and it was published on 9th October, 2011. Arati Mukherjee lost her father at an early age. She lived in a joint family. She learned classical singing from different gurus including Sushil Banerjee. He was the judge of a music competition, where Arati Mukherjee participated. Eminent singer Dhanonjoy Bhattacharya was the chief judge in that competition and he was impressed by Arati Mukherjee’s singing. He asked Sushil Banerjee, whether Arati Mukherjee is interested to sing a duet song with him in the film Mamlar Fol. The film was based on the story of kathasahityik Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. Robin Chatterjee was the leading composer of Bengali films of the 50s and composed excellent music in films like Sagarika, Pathe Holo Deri, etc. In the 60s Arati Mukherjee got scope of singing in hit films like Deya Neya, Shankha Bela. Her song “madhabi madhute holo mitali” in the film Deya Neya became very successful. Her pet name was Alo. Arati Mukherjee married famous solicitor Shreyas Manim. In the flat in Mumbai famous singer and composer Hemanta Mukherjee came. He asked her to make a cake. She started making the cake. Then she and husband played a song of Ustad Amir Khan. The cake became overcooked. Hemanta Mukherjee ate that cake and said that it added taste due to the music. Her journey in the hindi film world started with the film Geet Gata Chal. She received filmfare award for her song in the film Masoom, where RD Burman composed music. Arati Mukherjee talked about a number of composers including Nochiketa Ghosh and Sudhin Dasgupta. She talked about director Hrithik Ghatak who was looking for a new voice for his film Subarnarekha. Hrithik Ghatak met Arati Mukherjee’s guru Sagiruddin Khan and he introduced Arati Mukherjee to Hrithik Ghatak. Tapan Sinha composed the song “choti si panchi” sung by Arati Mukherjee. Arati Mukherjee’s humbleness had amazed the readers and listeners of music.

Crime thriller films became very popular due to artistry of director Raj Khoslaji

Raj Khosla and bollywood films. Born in 1925 and died in 1991, Raj Khosla was considered by critics to be the path-breaker in crime-thriller films. His film CID in 1955, created a trend in respect of crime thrillers. He introduced Wahida Rehman and Shakila in the film. The music of the film composed by OP Nayyar was also impressive with hit songs of Rafi like “ankhon hi ankho me ishara ho gaya”, “leke pehla pehla pyar”, etc. His film Solwa Sal, involved Wahida Rehman being eloped by her boyfriend but later on brought back home by a journalist. In Bombai Ka Babu, there was a killer who entered into the family of the person he killed and then had an affair with the sister of the deceased. Dev Anand and Suchitra Sen played the lead roles in the film. The 60s saw Raj Khosla’s musical blockbusters. His film Ek Musafir Ek Haseena with Joy Mukherjee and Sadhna stormed bollywood. The songs composed by OP Nayyar for Rafi and Asha were super hit including “bahut shukriya bari meherbani”, “aap yuhi agar”, “hume dekhakar aapka muskurana”, etc. The shooting in Kashmir also raised interest in the minds of the viewers. In 1964, Raj Khosla came up with probably one of the greatest spooky films in bollywood, with the title “Woh Kaun Thi”. Sadhna played the roles of the two sisters who were exploited by Prem Chopra to terrorize Manoj Kumar and get his property. At the end of the film the secret was revealed. The music composed by Madan Mohan was brilliant with landmark songs like “naina barse”, “lagja gale”, etc. Raj Khosla continued with horror films with Mera Saya and Anita where Sadhna played the role of the ghosts. Sunil Dutt acted opposite Sadhna in Mera Saya while Manoj Kumar acted opposite her in Anita. The music was impressive again. In the mid-60s Raj Khosla again returned back to romantic dramas like Do Badan with Manoj Kumar and Asha Parekh. The music of Ravi with impressive songs like “jab chali thandi hawa”, require special mention. He also made films related to stories of dacoits like Mera Gaon Mera Desh with Dharmender. His last successful film included Mai Tulsi Tere Angan Ki. Both Nutan and Asha Parekh did well in their respective roles in the films. His other films like Do Badan and Dostana were impressive, but whenever the viewers remember the name of Raj Khosla, the first impressive comes in respect of horror stories and crime thrillers like Mera Saya and Who Kaun Thi. The films should be preserved and restored.

Romantic songs of legendary singer Alpona Banerjee were more popular than her nursery songs

Alpona Banerjee could have continued with her music career in films instead of nursery songs. Alpona Banerjee, the romantic playback singer of Bengal during the 50s and 60s, had earned stardom through the songs she had sung for children. Prominent among them included “chottopakhi chandana”, “hattimatim tim”, “kana machi bho bho”, “charka kate buri”, “agdum bagdum ghoradum”, “dol dol duluni”, etc. But while her popularity before the children remained intact over 70 years, her stardom in the film industry declined. Born on 14th March, 1934, she got breaks in bollywood films due to her father’s intimacy with legendary composer Robin Chatterji and lyricist Gouri Prasanna Majumdar. Her song “matir ghare aaj nemeche chand re” entertained the Bengali film viewers in the early 50s. From providing playback in Bengali film Bidyasagar, she sang a number of romantic songs in leading films of the 50s. Her song “hriday amar sundoro taba paye” composed by Robin Chatterji in Uttam Kumar Suchitra Sen’s film Sagarika stormed the audience. Her song performance in the film Shubhada was specially acclaimed. While her film career blossomed in the 50s, her Bengali modern songs bewildered the Bengali audience. Her romantic song “ami sundar bole tai to bondhu besecho bhalo amay” composed by Manobendra Mukherjee can be considered to be the most romantic song she had ever sung in her life. The other composition of Manobendra Mukherjee for her titled “mon bolche aaj sondhay kichu bolte tumi aasbeki” which became super hit. Her other songs “Jodi tomar jibone” and “bolechile tumi gaan shonaabe” were equally romantic. She at the same time sung songs in prominent films like Chele Kar under composition of Kalipada Sen, Personal Assistant under composition of Nochiketa Ghosh, Pathe Holo Deri composed by Robin Chatterji. She was married to Sridhar Mukherjee and faded away from the film music arena in the 60s. She also sang songs in romyogeeti in All India Radio. The other films where she made valuable contribution included Bidhilipi, Kar Pape, Na, Chele Kar, Shilpi, Agni Parikkha, Bhangagara, etc. Her other basic discs which were prominent included “ami alpone eke jai”, “bokulgandhe Jodi akash”, “tomar moner rong legeche”, “samiran phire chao”, etc. Viewers wonder that if Alpona Banerjee had not sung nursery songs for children which in Bengali is termed “charar gaan”, she could have done great justice to her romantic voice and her place would have been besides Sandhya Mukherjee and Geeta Dutt who dominated Bengali film music and modern songs during 50s and 60s. The audience had an impression of Alpona Banerjee’s voice related to children’s fairy tales which got more predominance over other songs. She died on 24th July, 2009, at the age of 75 years. Her songs and films should be preserved.

Looking back at Rishi Kapoorji's films on his death anniversary.

Rishi Kapoor died on 30th April 2020 and shocked the nation. One day ago the country was devastated with death news of talented actor Irfan Khan. Rishi Kapoor suffered from cancer and died at an of 1967. He is alive in his works. The viewers of bollywood films wished happy birthday to Rishi Kapoor on 4th September 2019. He had remained one of the most romantic actors that bollywood had ever produced. He started his career as a child artist in Raj Kapoor’s film Mera Naam Joker in 1971. He stormed bollywood films with his romantic performance in the film Bobby in 1973. The film did great business and Rishi Kapoor received the filmfare award for the best actor for his performance in Bobby. Raj Kapoor as producer and director started a new innings with a new team of Laxmikant Pyarellal as against Shankar Jaikishan after the death of Jaikishan in 1971. LP had huge contribution in the music of the films of Rishi Kapoor for the next ten years. From that time onwards Rishi Kapoor remained one the most romantic actors in bollywood films. His films Amar Akbar Anthony in 1977, Laila Majnu in 1976 and Sargam in 1978 were the greatest musical blockbusters of the 70s. The songs composed by Laxmikant Pyarellal, Jaidev and Madanmohan in these films became everlasting hits. The notable songs of Rafi and Lata in this film included “koel boli”, “parda hai parda”, “dafliwale”, “barbad muhobbat ki dua”, “is reshmi pazeeb”, to name a few. LP received the filmfare award for the best composer for 3 Rishi Kapoor’s films namely Amar Akbar Anthony, Sargam and Karz from 1978 to 1980. Rishi Kapoor’s extraordinary capability of giving lips in these songs separated him from other actors of that era. His films Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai, Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahi and Karz created history. He showed his dancing skills in every type of songs of Rafi and Kishore including “hai aga dushman zamana”, “bacchna aye haseeno”, “dard –e- dil”, “om shanty om”, “puchona yaar kya hua”, to name a few. RD Burman and Laxmikant Pyarellal probably gave their best music to Rishi Kapoor in the 70s and 80s. In the 80s, Rishi Kapoor’s films Duniya, Sitamgar, Saagar, Chandni, Cooli, Naseeb, did fantastic business. He got the opportunity of acting opposite stalwarts in the industry namely Dilip Kumar in Duniya, Dharmender in Sitamgar, Kamal Hassan in Saagar, to name a few. In fact due to presence of Rishi Kapoor, producers and directors created romantic stories during an era when Big B, Vinod Khanna, Shatrughun Sinha dominated bollywood with action films. Even in the 90s, Rishi Kapoor’s films Bol Radha Bol, Damini, etc., were appreciated by the audience. He was successful opposite young actresses like Juhi Chawla, Meenakshi Sheshadri, who were one generation younger than him. He had great contribution in the films of eminent directors like Yash Chopra, Manmohan Desai, Subhash Ghai, Ramesh Sippy, David Dhawan, and others. After the debut of his son Ranbir Kapoor in the film Sawaariya, Rishi Kapoor switched to character roles. In 2009 also Rishi Kapoor did well in films like Dilli 6, Pyar Me Twist, Luck By Chance. He received Star Screen award for the best supporting actor in 2010 for his performance in the film Love Aaj Kal. In 2010 he acted in the films Chintuji and Sadiyaan. 2012 had been an excellent year for Rishi Kapoor. At the beginning of the year he acted in a negative character for the first time in his career in the film Agneepath. The film with hero Hrithik Roshan had done business of more than 125 crores. His other film Housefull 2 with Akshay Kumar had become super hit too. It also had done business of more than 110 crores. He is experimenting with new characters in this part of his career. He received best villain award for his performance in the film Agneepath. In 2013, he had acted in the films Chasme Baddoor and Besharam. In 2015 his performance in the film All is Well was very well appreciated. With his death the 3 generation actors Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor ended. It is an irreparable loss to the industry.

Ram and Bheem accidentally meet and team up to save a boy. Bheem introduces himself as a Muslim named Akhtar while Ram hides his identity as a police officer. They become best friends. Bheem comes across Scott's niece Jennifer when they are trying to sneak into the governor's palace. Ram helps Bheem to get close to her. Jennifer invites Bheem to a party which the duo attend. Impressed by his dance, Jennifer invites Bheem to the palace. Bheem silently meets Malli, assuring her rescue. Ram captures Lachhu to ask whereabouts about their leader but in vain. Lachhu gets hold of a common krait and throws it onto Ram which bites him. Lacchu warns Ram that it can kill him within an hour without anti-venom, known only to the Gond people. Ram finds his way to Bheem who saves him. Bheem confesses to Ram by telling him about their mission. Bheem and his men barge into the palace with a truck full of wild animals. Bheem unleashes them onto the palace guards. However, Ram obstructs him as a police officer. Bheem pleads not to arrest him but Ram does not budge. Furious, Bheem fights off Ram, and goes on to climb the palace walls. Ram stops him while Scott holds Malli hostage at point-blank range. Bheem surrenders with no option left. Bheem is sentenced to death via a public execution. Scott offers mercy if he kneels but Bheem refuses despite heaving lashing by Ram. He sings a song which motivates the public to rebel. Bheem is taken away by the officers. Ram recalls that his father Venkat Ramaraju had rebelled and sacrificed his life against the British. Venkat takes a promise from Ram that he'd a deliver a weapon to every person who takes part in the rebellion. Venkat's friend Venkateswarulu informs Ram that his promise is going to be fulfilled since he is appointed as in charge of a shipment of arms. Ram, however, puts saving Bheem and the girl as his priority. He requests Scott to execute Bheem in the outskirts as a part of his plan. However, Scott recognizes the ploy, and injures him. Bheem frees himself and fights the guards off. Ram shoots and kills a guard over Malli's head to save her. Misunderstanding this as an attack, Bheem beats up Ram and escapes with Malli. Bheem and his men hide in Hathras but the British arrive there. Sita recognizes that they are in danger and drives away the British by lying that the place is experiencing a smallpox outbreak. Ram takes bow and arrows from a shrine of Lord Rama and retaliates. Bheem joins him with a javelin. They fight off the police and head towards the palace. They blast a motorcycle into a room full of TNT, and explode the building. Bheem retrieves guns and ammunition and delivers it to Ram. Lady Scott is killed in the chaos while Scott is killed by Ram and Bheem. They reunite with Sita, Jennifer and others. Upon Ram's insistence, Bheem requests to return the favour by educating him. Ram returns to his village and delivers the weapons as promised while Bheem returns to his hamlet, reuniting Malli with her mother. RRR opened to positive reviews from the critics, praising the performances and screenplay by Rajamouli. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave the film a rating of 4/5 and wrote "RRR is a teRRRific entertainer that’s meant for the big screen. The film has the merits to emerge massive hit. Don’t miss it!". Roktim Rajpal of Deccan Herald gave the film a rating of 4/5 and wrote "The action-packed climax again hits the right notes as the visuals do the talking, the hallmark of good storytelling". Neeshita Nyayapati of The Times Of India gave the film a rating of 3.5/5 and wrote "RRR is not perfection by any means (despite Rajamouli’s best efforts) because after the way he pulls off certain scenes, you wonder if he could’ve done a better job in certain others.

He started his career with the superhit film Phool Aur Kaante. Ajay Devgan's recent film RRR with director Raja Mouli and actors NTR Junior and Ram Charan has crossed 650 crores business in India. As his father Veeru Devgan had a great background of training actors for action sequences and Ajay Devgan started his career with the latent quality of an action hero. The action sequences in Phool Aur Kaante were excellent. Also the music of the film became hit with songs like “premi pagal awara”, “tumko milne ko dil karta hai”, etc., sung by Kumar Shanu and Alka Yagnik, which were picturized on Ajay Devgan and Madhu. The other successful films of Ajay Devgan include Ishq, Dilwale, Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, etc. In Ishq, he acted with Amir Khan, Juhi Chawla and Kajol, and contributed well in the comedy sequences of the film. The film was based on the story of affairs between rich and poor people and the fathers of Juhi Chawla and Ajay Devgan never wanted to get their children married to poor people. The music of the film was very successful with songs like “ishq hua”, “humko tumse pyar hai”, etc. Ajay Devgan also acted in very serious films like Raincoat opposite Aishwarya Rai, which was directed by Rituporno Ghosh, Zakhm, Gangaajal , etc. He had created an identity of a reserve actor and that image helped him in getting landmark roles for the last 10 years. His other successful films include Golmaal and Golmaal Returns. In both Golmaal and Golmaal Returns Ajay Devgan acted with other comedians like Arshad Warsi and Tushaar Kapoor and maintained the rhythm of the film. Tushar Kapoor played the role of a deaf and dumb character in the film and at the end of the film got the job, the girl for marriage, as against the interests of his other friends. Ajay Devgan married successful actress Kajol and both had acted together in a number of films like Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, Ishq, You, Me and Hum, etc., most of which were successful. Even Ajay Devgan’s role of a ghost in the film Kaal opposite Lara Dutta, John Abraham and others were well appreciated by viewers. His performance in patriotic roles like that of Shahid Bhagat Singh also requires special mention. His film All the best did brilliant business in 2011. Although the credit for the success of the comedy film goes collectively to the effort of Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and others, but Ajay Devgan’s anticipation of viewers accepting comedy stories require appreciation. 2010 proved extremely successful for Ajay Devgan. In 2010 also he had acted in the comedy film Atithi Tum Kab Jayoge with Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal. The serious films in the year like Once Upon a Time In Mumbai did excellent business as compared to Aakrosh. The comedy film Golmaal 3 did excellent business and Ajay Devgan proved his effortlessness opposite actress Kareena Kapoor in style. In 2012 onwards his film Singham did business of more than 100 crores. Also his film Son of Sardar did business of more than 100 crores. But his film Himmatwala in 2013 did not do great business. In the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, his film Tanhaji did business of 275 crores and remains the biggest blockbuster of Ajay Devgan. His film RRR might end up with 800 crores in India. The viewers expect Ajay Devgan to continue his good work both as an actor and also producer, director in 2020 and in the years to come.

For brilliant performance in film Drishyam Ajay Devgan and Tabu should have received filmfare awards

Ajay Devgan and Tabu were brilliant in film Drishyam. They should have won awards for their acting in the film. Ajay Devgan and Tabu did a great job in the film Drishyam. The film was originally made in Malayalam and Mohanlal played the lead role in the film. The hindi version is directed by Nishikant Kamat. It had been produced by Kumar Pathak, Ajit Andhare and Abhishek Pathak. The music had been composed by Vishal Bhardwaj. In the film Ajay Devgan had Cable business in a remote village at Goa. He lived peacefully with his wife played by Shriya Saran and two daughters. Once his daughter went for camping with her college friends. At that camp Rishabh Chaddha (played the role of Sam), the son of Inspector General played by Tabu took ofscene photos of her from his mobile phone and blackmailed her. In haste Ajay Devgan’s daughter hit him with an iron rod and he was killed. Shriya Saran and the daughter buried the body in the garden of the house and told Ajay Devgan about everything. Ajay Devgan made a plan, took the family on holiday, went to Panaji by bus, stayed in a hotel, saw a film and returned back keeping all the bills of expenses. Tabu very seriously interrogated him because one of the police officers Gaikonde saw Ajay Devgan driving the yellow car of Sam. The rest of the film was related to the interrogation. The police tortured Ajay Devgan and his family in the custody, and finally the younger daughter told that the body of Sam was buried in the garden. But when the surrounding area was dug, the body of a dead goat was found. Tabu was suspended along with Gaikonde. Ajay Devgan very intelligently used the stories of films and buried the body in the new foundation of police station. The acting of Ajay Devgan, Tabu were per excellence. Both of them deserve a number of awards for outstanding performance. The film had very unique storyline. The film had done business of 42 crores in 5 days but is destined to do better. The music was good and the song “dum ghutta hai” by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Rekha Bhardwaj stands out. Everyone should watch the film.
