Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari were excellent in film Noorjahan.
Director M. Sadiq directed the film Noorjahan in 1967. A.K. Nadiawala produced the film.
Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari in Noorjahan.
Pradeep Kumar played the role of Jehangir, while Meena Kumari played the role of Noorjahan in the film.
He had directed many landmark historical films like Taj Mahal, Bahu Begum, etc. In Noorjahan the love story of Salim with Meherunnisa was shown. Rahman played the role of Akbar in the film who never wanted Salim to marry Meherunnisa. So he asked Sher Khan to marry her and send Salim to a conquest in another part of the country.
Pradeep Kumar got so irritated that he wanted to wage war against Rahman, which meant Akbar. But his grandmother Lalita Power stopped it. Sher Khan was later killed by the mughals. Akbar also died. Meherunnisa came to get justice before Mughal Court for the death of Sher Khan thinking that Jehangir had killed him. But Jehangir had no role to play in his death.
At the end of the film Pradeep Kumar married Meena Kumari and gave the title of Noor Jahan to Meherunnisa. M. Sadiq’s direction was excellent. Johnny Walker, Lalita Power, Sheikh Mukhtar, Rahman all did a great job. The film again stands out for the excellent music composed by Roshanlal Nagrath and excellent lyrics written by Shakeel Badayani. Some of the songs were excellent including the song “aap jab se kareeb aye hain” sung by Mohammad Rafi and Asha Bhosle. Roshan Lal Nagrath exhibited the royal andaz of songs in the film in style.
Pradeep Kumar was always considered to be a royal blooded prince and he proved his worth in the film Noorjahan in the role of Jehangir. Meena Kumari matched both the aristocracy exhibited by Meherunnisa and also the beauty of the mughal queen. The film should be restored and preserved for eternal beauty and royal performances from all the actors and actresses.
