Bipasha Basu - the style icon of bollywood
Bipasha Basu – the style icon of bollywood
Bipasha Basu got the award for the best style icon of bollywood films in Lux Sabse Popular Kaun award at the end of 2008. She had acted in films like Race, Bacchna Aye Haseeno, and her performance in those films had led the viewers decide on her stylish acting.
Although age sometimes stands in the way of veteran performers especially in the entertainment industry, the recognition in the form most popular style icon gives the impression that some of the artists had not lost their box-office popularity. It had happened in the case of Bipasha Basu.
Those who had viewed the film Race will agree that Bipasha Basu faced the challenge of the junior actresses like Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy in the same film. Both of the actresses were younger than Bipasha Basu and in that sense had more acceptability before the younger producers and directors. Katrina Kaif specifically had a dream run in the last three years with success in one film or other including Welcome, Namaste London, Singh is Kinng, etc.
Inspite of all the odd factors, Bipasha Basu emerged as the most stylish performer in the film Race. She had the inclination of following the style of Sofia Lorrain of Hollywood films in the early part of her career as her get up matched with the oscar winning actress of Hollywood.
Later on with passing of time, she had developed her versatility in performance to create her own acting style. That was evident in rural roles like the one played in the film Omkara opposite Vivek Oberoi and Saif Ali Khan. She showed her acting skills along with performances in item numbers like “beeri jalai le”, etc.
In Bacchna Aye Haseeno, she had acted opposite Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Minissha Lamba who were much younger than her. Yet her performance had impressed the viewers of bollywood films and she had kept her mark.
She never looked out of place opposite the young performers. As the story was related to the influence of the three girls in the lives of the young man played by Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha’s influence was equally material in the film like Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone.
In 2009, the viewers expect even better performance from the style icon in bollywood films of modern producers and directors.
