Shaan – the effortless singer of bollywood.
Shantanu Mukherjee, better known as Shaan, born in 1972, was born in a musical family with his father Manas Mukherjee being a successful music composer in West Bengal and his sister Sagarika also being a singer. In Parinda, in 1989, he got a scope of singing only a line of the song “kitni hai pyari pyari dosti hamari”, as a child singer.
He created an impression in the minds of music lovers with his performance in music albums like “Q Funk” and “Tanha Dil.” But he stormed into bollywood films with his spirited performance of the song “koi kahe kehta rahe” in the film Dil Chahta Hai.
From there he never looked back. His song “dus bahane” from the film Dus was a very big hit. He won the filmfare award for the best male playback singer for singing the song “chaand sifarish” from the film Fanna, picturised on Amir Khan. The film was successful with strong performance from both Amir Khan and Kajol.
Shaan was also the host of the popular Musical show in TV Channel titled “Sa re ga ma pa” where the talented singers faced each other in musical competition and the judges provided their valuable comments on their singing. Shaan was very supportive towards the participants and became exceeding popular before the audience of TV shows.
Shaan once again showed the magic of his voice with the song “jab se tere naina’ in the film Sawaria, where Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor had made notable contribution in their first film and Shaan also won the filmfare award for the best male playback singer once again in 2008.
Shaan is presently the most promising male playback singer after Sonu Nigam and after facing strong competition from other playback singers for sometime had emerged as one of the leading singers of the present generation. The producers and directors have a lot of faith in Shaan.
With hit songs under his credit in films like Laksh, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Don, etc., Shaan is expected to do even better in the years to come.
