Happy birthday to talented singer Udit Narayan.

Happy birthday to talented singer Udit Narayan.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to talented singer Udit Narayan on 1st December, 2010. Udit Narayan, is probably the most unique singers who had graced bollywood films for the last 20 years. The main reason of his success was that he did not imitate any legendary singer for getting entry in bollywood cinema. For example Shabbir Kumar and Mohammad Aziz had imitated Rafi for their existence, Kumar Shanu, Abhijeet, Babul Supriyo imitated Kishore for their survival.Udit Narayan sang immortal songs like “papa kehte hai”, “akele hai” for Amir Khan in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, “tum pass aye” for Shahrukh Khan in the film Kuch Kuch hota Hai, “chand chupa badal se” for Salman Khan in Hum dil de chuke sanam. He had been the leading singer for the last 25 years and probably sung every type of songs.

The other hit songs include “dil to pagal hai”, “kab tak chup baithe”, etc., from the film Dil to Pagal Hai, picturised on Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, where Lata had sung with him. Also his songs “pyar ki kasti me” for Hrithik Roshan from the film Kahona Pyar Hai, “mai nikla gaddi leke” for Sunny Deol in the film Gadar –ek premkatha, “chalo chale sajna” from the film Nayak, picturised on Anil Kapoor, “bechainiya” from the film Gupt, picturised on Bobby Deol, were big hits. He had also taken part in the Indian idol music competition held in Sony TV Channel as a judge along with Anu Malik and Alisha Chinoy. It is very difficult to mention the contribution of a legendary singer of the esteem of Udit Narayan in a small article as he had sung more than 15000 songs in the last 25 years. His other catchy numbers include “chalo chale sajna” picturised on Anil Kapoor in the film Nayak, “do you wanna partner” picturised on Govinda and Salman Khan in the film Partner, “o ho ho chandni aya hai tera dewana” picturised on Salman Khan in the film Janam Samjha Karo, etc.

He had received filmfare awards a number of times as best singer and is probably one of the most consistent singers other than Sonu Nigam. In the present days new singers like Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Javed Ali, Himesh Reshamiya had entertained the musiclovers with their new style of singing, but that has not created any problem for Udit Narayan. After Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore, Manna Dey, Udit Narayan is the singer who had stood the test of time and is expected to serve bollywood films for another 20years if he can maintain his voice quality.

Happy birthday to Dharmender.

Happy birthday to Dharmender.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Dharmender on 8th December, 2010. He is one of the living legends of bollywood.

He had acted in more than 300 films and bollywood industry was heavily dependent on the star in the 60s and 70s. He started his journey with romantic films. His successful romantic films included Phool Aur Pathar with Meena Kumari, Mamta with Suchitra Sen, Mere Humdum Mere Dost with Sharmila Tagore, Aye Din Bahar Ke with Asha Parekh, Pyar Hi Pyar with Vaijayantimala, to name a few. Rafi’s songs picturized on Dharmender like “gar tum bhula na doge,” “ na ja kahin ab na ja”, “o majhi chal”, “dil kahen ruk ja”, “aaj mausam bara beimaan hai”, etc., had remained evergreen gems. His combination with legendary singer Mohammad Rafi was evergreen. As he acted in the production and direction of different legends in the 60s, including Bimal Roy, Chetan Anand, Asit Sen, etc., he gave lips in the songs of Rafi composed by different composers. Some of the examples include “aap ke haseen rukh” composed by OP Nayyar in the film Baharen Phir Bhi Ayegi, “dekha hai teri ankhome” composed by Shankar Jaikishan in the film Pyar hi Pyar, “chalkaye jam” composed by Laxmikant Pyarellal in the film Mere Humdum Mere Dost, “tere paas aake” composed by Ravi in the film Aankhe, “in baharon me akela na phiro” composed by Roshan in the film Mamta, to name a few.

He played a different innings in the 70s. His image of action hero created revolution in bollywood films. He had a very muscular physic and created a trend of actors who involved themselves in exercises. His discipline had been followed by the actors of the next generation like Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and others. His successful films in the 70s included Jheel Ke Us Paar, Jugnu, Sholay, Dream Girl, etc.

His combination with Hema Malini is considered as one of the most colourful onscreen combination after Raj Kapoor Nargis and Dilip Kumar Vaijayantimala. Dharmender had acted in more than 20 films with Hema Malini, most of which were super hit. The most renowned films included Raja Jani, Naya Zamana, Sholay, Charas, Seeta Aur Geeta, Burning Train, Dream Girl, etc.

Dharmender acted in off-beat films as well. The best example was Gulzar’s Kinara. He was the husband of Hema Malini in the film who was a noted classical dancer. He was killed due to an accident with the car of Jeetender in the film. Bhupinder Singh’s song picturised on Dharmender titled “ek hi khwab kai baar dekha hai maine” remains as one of the greatest off-beat creations of RD Burman. His performance in the film Maa, based on the life of elephant requires special mention. He took a young elephant away from his mother to use him in Circus. The mother elephant revolted and killed Dharmender’s mother Nirupa Roy in the film. Dharmender’s patent dialogue “maa kasam”, “kamine”, etc., were memorized by youths of the 70s.
Both his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol are successful actors of bollywood films. Dharmender still has acting left in him and the viewers expect him to carry on the marathon innings that he had started 50 years back.

Happy birthday to Sushmita Sen.

Happy birthday to Sushmita Sen.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Sushmita Sen on 19th November, 2010. After creating a mark in the fashion world she made notable contribution in films as well. She won the Miss World Crown in the early 90s and at that time remained one of India’s best beauties along with Aishwarya Rai.

She had impressed the viewers with the film Mai Hoon Na opposite Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh Khan came to find his own brother in an educational institution after a long time. Shahrukh Khan fell in love with Sushmita Sen in the film. The online chemistry appealed to the masses. Both of them gave able lips in the song “mai hoon na”. Zaid Khan, Amrita Rao and Sunil Shetty also did very well in the film.

She faced the glamour of Katrina Kaif in the film Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya, opposite Salman Khan and yet impressed the viewers with her unique performance. She was a nurse in the medical clinic of Salman Khan and she was asked to play the role of his first wife to satisfy Katrina Kaif. Salman Khan went on saying lies one after the other and Sushmita Sen had to help him for the wrongful cause. A time came when Sushmita could not bear any more. At the end of the film Salman Khan married her as she really loved him. Sushmita Sen gave brilliant lips in the song “laga laga laga re”.

She even did well in roles of second heroines like the one she played in Salman Khan’s film Bibi No. 1. Salman Khan was married to Karishma Kapoor and he lived with Sushmita after having an affair with her when he went for a foreign visit. When the question came as to upbringing of Salman Khan’s children Sushmita Sen failed miserably. Anil Kapoor and Tabu helped Karishma Kapoor to create ill-feelings of Salman Khan against Sushmita Sen and ultimately the family peace was restored in favour of Karishma Kapoor. The songs picturised on Sushmita Sen and Salman Khan became super hit like “ishq sona hai”, “chunari chunari”, etc.

Sushmita Sen also acted in challenging roles in films like Chingari, which were made for response from critics and Sushmita had shown her acting skills in these types of films. Her other successful films include Aaghaaz, opposite Sunil Shetty, where she played the role of police officer, Zor, opposite Sunny Deol, etc.

Both Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai joined bollywood films more or less at the same time and there was an express competition between both of them as both had come from the fashion world.

Although Sushmita Sen showed her potentiality in many films and the films had done well in box-office, she was not as lucky as Aishwarya Rai in bagging the big banners of Subhash Ghai, Sanjay Leela Banshali, Ram Gopal Verma, etc. Sushmita has also appeared as judges in many dance competitions hosted in different TV Channels in recent years along with other celebrities like Wasim Akram and others.

The viewers still believe that Sushmita Sen has a lot of acting left in her and she can do even better in bollywood films in future including her film relating to Benazir Bhutto. She had done a great job in Anil Kapoor’s film No Problem which is going to be released very soon. Aneez Bazmi had directed the film. There are other stars in the film including Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Khanna in the film. The viewers wish the best for Sushmita Sen for the films that are going to be released in future.

Ajay Devgan and Akshay Khanna were brilliant in Aakrosh.

Ajay Devgan and Akshay Khanna were brilliant in Aakrosh.

Ajay Devgan and Akshay Khanna were brilliant in their individual roles in the film Aakrosh. The film had depicted the political evils in the state of Bihar.

Both Akshay Khanna had been send by CBI to the state of Bihar to investigate on three murders which took place but there was no trace of the bodies and no clue as to who killed them. The two styles of performances of Akshay Khanna and Ajay Devgan had impressed the viewers. While Ajay Devgan displayed the Bihari style of violent style of performance, Akshay Khanna displayed his reserved and restrained style of performance.

Paresh Rawal, the police officer in the film was involved in all the three murders. He played his cruel character with witty demeanour. Bipasha Basu did well in the role of his wife.

Ajay Devgan had also showed his bravery in few encounters shown in the film. In one of them he sat on top of a jeep being driven by Akshay Khanna amidst jungles and rugged landscapes when he was looking for the body of Reema Sen. At the end they found that her tongue was cut by miscreants.

The film had been criticized by a section of the viewers for being too much filled with violence. But part of the violence was required to be depicted for unfolding the facts of the film. Internationally recognized director Govind Nihalini also faced questions relating to violence being depicted in his films Aakrosh, Ardha Satya, Drohkaal, Tamas at one point of time. But his excellent standard of casting and brilliant direction had overshadowed the violence depicted in the film.

Aakrosh had done good business from the time it had been released. These days action films and films full of violence are less liked by the audience. But whatever may be the fate of the box-office collections in respect of Aakrosh both Ajay Devgan and Akshay Khanna should be credited for their versatile performances in the film.

Happy birthday to Helen.

Happy birthday to Helen.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Helen on 19th Nov., 2010. She had remained an exceptional dancer and featured in majority of bollywood fllms in the 60s and 70s. She was probably one of the most indispensable figures in bollywood during 60s and 70s. Without her films like Gumnaam, Teesri Manzil, Jewel Thief, Inteqam, Carwan, Night in London, etc. would have been incomplete. She in fact filled in the empty space created by prominent dancer Cuckoo in the 50s.

One of her most memorable films include Gumnaam, where she played the role of one of the few persons who were taken to an isolated island. She was killed along with a number her friends by Tarun Bose in the film who was identified by Manoj Kumar at the end of the film. Her dance number in the songs “hum kale hai to kya hua dilwale hai” and “is duniya me jeena ho to” composed by Shankar Jaikishan were brilliant by every judging standards.

She was put to test in her dance no. in the song “muqabla hum se na karo” in the film Prince along with Shammi Kapoor and Vaijayantimala. She did the western part while Vaijayantimala did the eastern part. Whenever she got a scope of performing opposite Shammi Kapoor her performance used to get a different dimension as he was the only male star in the 60s to dominate bollywood films with rock and roll dance performances.

Both of them did well in the film Teesri Manzil. The song “o haseena zulfonwali” is remembered for the dance of both Helen and Shammi Kapoor. Helen got a villainish role in the film and trapped Shammi Kapoor in a murder case where the actual murderer was Prem Nath.

Helen even got few roles of heroines in the 60s including the role in the film Pyar Hi Pyar where she acted opposite Mehmood, where the main roles were played by Dharmender and Vaiyantimala. Her prominent roles continued in the 70s, including her cameo in the song “piya tu ab tu aja” composed by RD Burman in the film Karwa, her role in the film Sholay, where her dance number in the song “mehbooba mehbooba” amazed the viewers.
The villainish roles continued like the one in Big B’s film Don, where her song “yeh mera dil” became a runaway hit. Kareena Kapoor danced in the same item number as that of Helen when the film was remade by Farhan Akhtar, with Shahrukh Khan.

Her other notable films include Mere Jeevan Saathi, Hindustani, Half Ticket, etc. She even acted in character roles in the 90s in films like Akela and Khamoshi. Her performance in the film Khamoshi had been appreciated by all section of viewers. The admirers of Helen expect her to make more contribution in bollywood films in character roles as she has a lot acting still left in her.

Happy birthday to Shilpa Shirodkar.

Happy birthday to Shilpa Shirodkar.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Shilpa Shirodkar on 20th November, 2010. She was a prominent actress of bollywood films during the 90s.

She had been remembered the most for her performance in the film Gopi Kishen. Sunil Shetty played a double role in the film. Shilpa Shetty played the role of a simple city girl who was married to a funny constable. She delivered her dialogues with broken English and reality created sensation. Karishma Kapoor played the role of the smart girl who was cast opposite the smart Sunil Shetty. Shilpa Shetty in fact balanced the callousness of the character Gopi in the film. The film did excellent business in late 90s.

Shilpa Shetty did extremely well in the film Hum opposite Govinda. In that film she played the role of daughter of military major played by Kader Khan. Although she loved Govinda, her father never allowed her to get married to Big B’s family as they were involved with India’s military, air force or naval service. Shilpa Shetty married Govinda against the wishes of her father Kader Khan. As the film had strong star cast with Big B, Rajnikant, Govinda, Kader Khan, Danny, Anupam Kher and others, her performance did not get limelight, but she was very effortless in that role.

She did a great job in the film Kishen Kanhaiya. Anil Kapoor played a double role in that film. The film was based on the same story line as that of Dilip Kumar’s film Ram Aur Shyam. The twin brothers played by Anil Kapoor had contrasting characters like Dilip Kumar’s characters in Ram Aur Shyam. Shilpa Shetty acted opposite the docile Anil Kapoor who was beaten up by Amrish Puri. Shilpa Shetty had suffered due to the oppression of Amrish Puri in the film. Her role was very submissive and polite in the film.

Shilpa Shirodkar also acted in serious fllms like Prakash Jha’s Mrityudand. She kept her mark opposite Shabana Azmi, Madhuri Dixit and other actresses in the film. Shilpa Shirodkar added weight and stopped acting after 10 years.

The viewers expect her to make a comeback in character roles in future considering her acting capability and previous performances.

Pradeep Kumar - Meena Kumari - the most royal pair of the millennium.

Pradeep Kumar – Meena Kumari – the most royal pair of the millennium.

Whenever the elegant pair of actors and actresses of bollywood films are thought about the combination of Raj Kapoor and Nargis, and Dilip Kumar and Vaijayantimala gets the privilege. Their combination gave the greatest hits of bollywood history and Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor being stars, their stardom reached Europe and Middle-East, so their hit films were the most famous films in the 50s and 60s like Awaara or Madhumati.

But whenever reference comes about the most royal pair of bollywood films, Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari’s name comes at the beginning. Pradeep Kumar acted in around 6 films with Madhubala, including Rajhath (1956), Yahudi Ki Ladki (1957), Gateway of India (1957), Police (1958), Mahlon Ki Khwab, (1960) and Passport (1961). But other than Rajhath and Gateway of India the other films did not do impressive business.

In the early 50s, he acted opposite Meena Kumari in the film Bandhan. They also acted in the film Adil – e – Jahangir. But the pair actually got accolades from refined viewers with the film Aarti in 1962 under Rajashree Productions. In the film, their characters were noble, they came together to serve the poor. Ashok Kumar played the role of materialistic doctor who came in the way for his affection towards Meena Kumari. From that time the combination of Pradeep Kumar, Meena Kumari, Ashok Kumar, composer Roshan Lal Nagrath and singer Mohammad Rafi resulted in magic. All the songs of Aarti composed by Roshan and sung by Rafi were majestic in nature catering to the tastes of cultured audience including “ab kya misaal doon mai tumhare shabab ki”, “baar baar tohe”, “aap ne yaad dilayatha to mujhe yaad aya”, etc.

Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari acted together in Kidar Sharma’s Chitralekha in 1964. Pradeep Kumar played the role of royal Samanta Beejgupta during the famous Gupta age. Roshan and Rafi combination again created magic with the legendary bhajan “man re to kahe na dheer dhare”.

Pradeep Kumar, Meena Kumari and Ashok Kumar came out with another triangular love story in the film Bheegi Raat in 1965. It was Kalidas’s film. The film had powerpact performances of all the three. The Roshan Rafi combination again created gold with the songs “jane yeh kaun hai”, “dil jo na keh saka”, etc., which became super hit. Singers in the 80s and 90s who sang Mohammad Rafi's songs used to make a point of singing "dil jo na keh saka" which just grew in popularity with passage of time.

In 1967, Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari acted in two films of M. Sadiq, namely Bahu Begum and Noorjahan. Again Roshan Rafi combination was at their best. In Bahu Begum, along with Rafi’s “hum intezar karenge”, Manna Dey showed his brilliance in the qawallis picturised in dargas, and Lata was brilliant in the song “duniya kare sawal”. Ashok Kumar was sublime in performance in a sacrificing role opposite Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari. Pradeep Kumar balanced Meena Kumari with his orthodox urdu talafoos which learned and adapted with time.

In the 70s, with the death of Meena Kumari, and the retirement of Pradeep Kumar from lead roles, the royal style of romantic stories faded away which were prevalent during the golden era. All the films of Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari combination require preservation and restoration for the romantic appeal, royal style of performance, elegance and superlative class of music.

She was extremely successful in Raj Kapoor’s film Satyam Shivam Sundaram. She played the role of a village girl whose face got burned and disfigured. The film was related to the romantic relationship of Zeenat with Shashi Kapoor, who was an urbanized youth. Lata’s songs in the film including “satyam shivam sundaram” composed by Laxmikant Pyarellal require special mention. Zeenat gave able lips in the songs.

In the early 80s Feroz Khan gave a stylish image to Zeenat in the film Qurbani. She played the role of a hotel singer and stormed bollywood with her performance. Her lips in the songs “aap jaisa koi mere zindagi me aye”, “laila ho laila”, etc., in the film Qurbani created sensation. Feroz Khan and Vinod Khanna also gave memorable performances in the film. Action Replayy will do well.

Action Replayy will do well.

Director Vipul Shah had experimented with an abstract subject in the film Action Replayy. But fortunately for him the screen presence and individual performance of Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar will make the film successful. His casting had been very meaningful.

In the film Aditya Roy Kapoor believed that if his parents’ marriage had been a love marriage, instead of arranged marriage then, his life would have been different. From his experience he could see that Akshay Kumar always had differences with Aishwarya Rai.

For those reasons he always ran away and avoided his girl friend Sudeepa Singh. He was asked by Sudeepa about his views on marriage. He developed a kind of apathy towards marriage. Just because his parents did not have cordial relationship, he thought that the root of major problems on earth includes marriage.

Sudeepa Singh’s grandfather Randhir Kapoor gave an ultimatum to Aditya Roy Kapoor. He told him that he failed to take a decision on marriage, he should forget his daughter. He stole his professor’s Time Machine to go the 1970s.

He continued turn time in the opposite direction. He wanted to convert his parent’s arranged marriage to love marriage. The entire film hovers around the theme in understanding the difficulty in doing so.

The music of Pritam had been impressive with hit songs like “baaki mai bhool gayi” sung by Shreya Ghoshal, “o bekhabar” sung by Shreya Ghoshal, “zor ka jhatka” sung by Daler Mehendi and Richa Sharma, “luk chup jaana” by Tulsi Kumar and KK.

The performance of Neha Dhupia, Om Puri and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the film had been brilliant. Akshay Kumar had been energetic and lively as ever. Aishwarya Rai had just gained beauty with attainment of age. She is looking even more gorgeous in her late 30s. The film should do well.

Happy birthday to Romantic Star Meenakshi Sheshadri.

Happy birthday to Romantic Star Meenakhi Sheshadri.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Romantic Star Meenakshi Sheshadri on 16th November, 2010. She had been one of the leading actresses of bollywood films of the 80s. She entered the film industry at a time when there was serious competition amongst the actresses in bollywood. Jaya Prada and Sri Devi established themselves as lead actresses and new stars like Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla entered bollywood.

She started her career in Subhash Ghai’s film Hero. Meenakshi acted opposite Jackie Shroff in the film who also started his career with the film Hero. After that Meenakshi acted opposite all the leading actors of bollywood films. She was very successful in the film Meri Jung opposite Anil Kapoor. In that film Anil Kapoor being a lawyer contested against Amrish Puri in a keenly contested case.

Meenakshi was successful opposite Big B in the film Shahenshah. Big B played the role of a police officer who did his duty during the day and attached criminals at night with the name of Shahenshah. Meenakshi gave able lips in the song “jane do jane do mujhe jana hai”. Meenakshi acted in successful of Raj Kumar Santoshi one after the other.

She was at her best in the film Damini. In that film she had seen a girl being raped. When she went and testified before the court about the happening she was considered to be an insane person. But she did not care about the allegation and testified before the court about the happening. Sunny Deol and Rishi Kapoor also did extremely well in the film opposite her. Meenakshi could have won a national award for the brilliant performance in the film, had Dimple Kapadia not won it for Rudaali.

Sunny Deol and Meenakshi formed a deadly combination especially in the films of Raj Kumar Santoshi. Their other hit films included Ghayal and Ghatak which did fantastic business. Golmaal 3 is more hilarious than Golmaal 1 and 2.

Golmaal 3 is more hilarious than Golmaal 1 and 2.

Director Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3 is more hilarious than Golmaal 1 and 2. The film had been shot in Goa. In the film Mithun Chakravarty and his sons were involved in scams involving fake history question papers.

When Mithun Chakravarty reprimanded them for selling fake question papers to students, Arshad Warsi said that he was going to teach the students never to take short cuts. His other two brothers namely Tushar Kapoor and Kunal Khemu helped him in executing the scam.

Within short distance, brothers Ajay Devgan and Shreyas Talpade with friend Kareena Kapoor ran a water-rides business. They clashed with Arshad Warsi and men when they did the same business on the beach.

The characteristics of Ajay Devgan, Tushar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Shreyas Talpade, part of the team of Golmaal returns were retained. Some fresh characteristics were also created in this film. Kareena Kapoor hurled abused at frequent intervals in the film. Shreyas Talpade stammered in the film. Tushar Kapoor continued his language ‘a-i-o’.

Johnny Lever did well in his role of a patient of lost memory. Sometimes he at one point he thought he was a thief, at other time he thought Ajay Devgan was a bus conductor. Mithun Chakravarty did his part very well. The other actors and actresses including Arshad Warsi, Ajay Devgan, Sheyas Talpade and Kareena Kapoor had played comedy roles in tandom at one time. So the performance in this film is not that challenging for them.

Pritam’s music was fine with impressive songs like “apna har din” sung by Anushka Manchanda and Shaan, “desi kaali” sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Neeraj Shreedhar. All the films directed by Rohit Shetty relating to Golmaal series did great business. Golmaal 3 is also expected to do better business with the star cast and powerful performances.

Writer Rajshekhar Basu better known as Parashuram was well known in Kolkata for his writings fully of satires. Oscar winning director Satyajit Ray experimented with one of those witty pieces of literature. Satyajit Ray made the film Mahapurush based on the literature of Raj Shekhar Basu, a renowned writer of Bengal. Previously Raj Shekhar Basu’s literature was used by Satyajit Ray in the film Parash Pathar.

Mahapurush was made along with Kapurush by Ray in the year 1965. While Kapurush did not reach the audience, Mahapurush amazed the viewers. Raj Shekhar Basu’s literature was titled Birinchibaba. Charu Prakash Ghosh played the role Birinchibaba in the film Mahapurush.

Satindra Bhattacharya had affair with Mitali Roy. When he saw that Mitali Roy started avoiding her due to the presence of the Sadhu, he communicated about the Sadhu before his friends, Satya Banerjee, and others.

Many God fearing people in Kolkata used to visit Charu Prakash Ghosh and listen to his words. He disclosed a lot of informations about Plato, Gautam Buddha, etc. He mentioned that there is no present. Past and future existed. One of the friends of Satindra Bhattacharya, communicated with Santosh Dutta, a famous scientist in Kolkata, to know the formula for producing smoke in the house.

He followed it up with his brilliant performance in the film Saagar.

In Saagar, Ramesh Sippy experimented with a triangular love story with Kamal Hassan, Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. The songs of the film composed by RD Burman became super hit. Some of them included “o maria”, “chehera ho”, “saagar kinare”, “jane do na”, etc. Kamal Hassan brought tears in the eyes of his audience through his sacrificing performance as died at the end of the film to save Rishi Kapoor. Besides he also exhibited his acrobatic skills in the film. The film did brilliant business due to power pact performance of Kamal Hassan, Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor.

From that time onwards he acted in different types of films, both having commercial significance and also art value. He acted in the film Geraftaar opposite Big B and Rajnikant. The viewers remember his comedy film Chachi 420. He received a number of national awards for best actor in the last 30 years. He had remained an all-time superstar in South Indian film industry.

Happy birthday to Tabu.

Happy birthday to Tabu on 4th November.

All the viewers of bollywood films had wished happy birthday to Tabu on the 4th of November, 2010. Although these days Tabu is not in the news to the extent she used to be few years back, she still enjoys popularity from bollywood audience.

When she entered films, within very short period of time she was recognized by the directors of parallel films and realistic films and experimented with her in dynamic roles. Gulzar gave her a challenging role in the film Machis. It was related to the story on terrorism existing in Punjab in the 90s. Tabu represented a member of a family who was affected by such terrorism. Her performance stand out among other notable performances of Om Puri and Chandrachud Singh in the same film.

She played a challenging role in the film Tarqeeb. The film was related to suspense of her death. She was killed and Nana Patekar did an impressive investigation to unearth the truth as to her killing. The first part of the film showed Tabu’s struggle in maintaining her family and her fight against poverty. The early part her relevance in respect of finding the motive of killing her in the film.

She played the role of a strict police officer in the film Kohram with Nana Patekar. Nana Patekar took the disguise of a journalist to unearth the identity of Big B in the film who was alleged to have been involved with criminal activities. At the end of the film both Big B and Nana Patekar co-operated with each other in their fight against Danny and his men who were really involved with anti-national activities.

Tabu was very impressive in her respective role in the film Hu Tu Tu. She also changed her image by performing in serio-comic performance in the film Bibi No.1, where she played the role of the wife of Anil Kapoor who helped Karishma Kapoor to bring peace in her family after her husband Salman Khan got involved in extra-marital affair with Sushmita Sen.

Tabu had acted in off-beat films like Chandni Bar and received critics acclamation for her performance in those types of films. She also acted in Mira Nair’s Hollywood film Namesake. Last year she played a notable role in the film Cheeni Kum with Big B where she depicted the character of a middle-aged lady who entered into an affair with an old man.

She is probably one of the Hyderabadi actresses, who had done well both in bollywood films as well as South Indian films. Even more than that her performance in the comedy film Hera Pheri, where she acted opposite Sunil Shetty had no similarity with the role of village girl in Virasat where she acted opposite Anil Kapoor. She had showed her range of acting over the last 15 years and other than Dimple Kapadia there are no actresses of contemporary period who has equal potential as that of Tabu. Although she had acted in Telegu films in 2008 like Pandurangadu, she had not played any important role in any bollywood film in 2009. In 2010, she acted in the film Toh Baat Pakki, but that film did mediocre business. Her admirers expect her make a strong comeback in bollywood films and contribute in both commercial and off-beat films.
