Films like God Tussi Great Ho has strong message.

Films like God Tussi Great Ho has strong message.

Films like God Tussi Great Ho has very strong message embedded in them. The director Rumy Jaffery came up with a very innovative subject. Salman Khan had been shown as a hardworking person whose efforts go in vain due to mistakes of other persons. Where as his friend Priyanka Chopra’s efforts, get rewarded.

Salman Khan had spoke to God played by Big B, and said that the prayers of the common man never reach him. He said that Salman Khan had been scope of playing the role of God for few days. He used his powers to make Sohail Khan, his competitor speak rubbish before the lie detector when a corrupted minister was interviewed by Sohail Khan.

But Salman Khan never understood that if he fulfilled the wishes of every human being on earth it could lead to chaos. He fulfilled the dreams of prisoners to escape from jail, he fulfilled the dream of beggar to behave like dog, he fulfilled the dream of Sohail Khan to marry Priyanka Chopra, he fulfilled the dream of Rajpal Yadav to marry his sister.

Due to Salman Khan’s mistakes the entire earth became full of unrest. Salman Khan understood could only the limited wishes of men and women. God knew the right balance which could not be understood by human beings. So the mess that was created by Salman Khan was brought back to order by God.

The film gave the right the message, that unlimited desires cannot be fulfilled. Salman Khan’s serio-comic performance with Sohail Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anupam Kher and others made people laugh. The songs in the film became successful as well like “tujhe aksa beech ghumadun”, to name a few. The music was composed by Sajid Wajid.

The viewers expect Salman Khan to come with more films having strong social messages.

Ranbir Kapoor was very impressive in Bacchna Aye Haseeno.

Ranbir Kapoor was very impressive in Bacchna Aye Haseeno.

Ranbir Kapoor, being the son of superstar Rishi Kapoor and grandson of Showman Raj Kapoor had a lot to prove when he made his debut with the film Sawaariya. The beginning was not that brilliant if compared with Rishi Kapoor’s Bobby.

But Ranbir Kapoor bounced back with his majestic performance in the film Bacchna Aye Haseeno. The story of the young man getting involved with three girls namely Minissha Lamba, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone. He almost cheated Minisha Lamba after spending a night with her in Switzerland and did not marry Bipasha knowing her to be a grand model.

But in the case of Deepika Padukone, he loved her and wanted to marry her inspite of knowing that she was a taxi-driver in Sydney. But later on Deepika herself realized that she loved Ranbir and decided to marry him at last. It was difficult to match the elegance of the three actresses Minisha Lamba, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone in the film, but Ranbir Kapoor did it in style.

But the portion where Ranbir Kapoor went back to India to say sorry to Minisha and Bipasha, was very appealing. He showed the signs of a matured actor and had lot of similarity in dialogue throwing with Rishi Kapoor. He worked as servant of Bipasha to show that he was repentant about his own act. He showed the exuberance of a young man and also the calmness of a person who realizes and feels his mistakes made in life.

The music of Vishal Shekhar was classic, with hit songs like “khuda jain”, “ahista ahista”, “bacchna aye haseeno”, etc. Ranbir Kapoor has all the signs of a popular star and viewers can expect him to carry on the legacy of Raj Kapoor and Prithviraj Kapoor, along with Kareena Kapoor.

Ranbir Kapoor had shown in Bacchna Aye Haseeno that he can dance, he is equipped to play the role of characters who are born and brought up abroad. The viewers are looking forward to his performance in the new film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani in 2009.

Between Dilip Kumar and Naushad and Raj Kapoor and Shankar Jaikishan which combination was more deadly?

Between Dilip Kumar and Naushad and Raj Kapoor and Shankar Jaikishan which combination was more deadly?

Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor still remain the most popular actors of bollywood cinema in the last 70 years. One of the reasons of their immense success includes the superlative class of music being given to the giant actors by Naushad and Shankar Jaikishan.

Naushad gave classic tunes to Dilip Kumar in the films Uran Khatola, Kohinoor, Mughal-I-Azam, Leader, Dil Diya Dard Liya, Ram Aur Shyam, Aadmi, to name a few. Rafi and Shakeel Badayani were the other players in the deadly combination. Rafi’s songs for Dilip Kumar like “madhuban me radhika nachere”, “woh dur ke musafir”, “tere husn ki kya taarif karun”, “koi sagar dil ko behlata nahi”, “dilruba maine tere pyar me kya kya na kiya”, “aaj purani rahon se koi mujhe awaaz na den”, remain one of the greatest creations of all times. If Naushad was unparallel as a composer, Shakeel Badayani was unparallel as a lyricist, Rafi was matchless as singer and Dilip Kumar matchless as an actor.

Producer director Raj Kapoor was the closest competitor of Dilip Kumar during the 40s, 50s and 60s. In fact both the giants had acted together in the film Andaz in 1949. Raj Kapoor’s deadly combination with Shankar Jaikishan had produced super hit films like Barsaat, Aah, Awara, Shree 40, Chori Chori, Anari, Jis Desh Me Ganga Behti Hai, Sangam, to name a few. The music of those films were equally popular and successful. Songs of Mukesh and Manna Dey like “ramaiya vasta maiya”, “mur murk e na dekh”, “sab kuch humne”, “yeh raat bheegi bheegi”, “o mehbooba”, “dost dost na raha” had not lost their flavor even after 50 years of their creation. Hasrat Jaipuri and Shailendra as lyricists completed the complete chain of master creators. As Raj Kapoor had other qualities besides acting including production, direction, editing, etc., he is considered the greatest showman of all times even today.

It is impossible to say whether Dilip Kumar’s combination with Naushad was greater than Raj Kapoor’s combination with Shankar Jaikishan, but it is true that the two giants had left assets for generations to cherish which had ended up being masterpieces. New actors, composers, singers, directors learn from the success of the Showman and Tragedy King and the works should be revisited.

Review of the film Luck.

Review of the film Luck.

Sanjay Dutt had acted in another action film titled Luck. Director Soham Sheh had experimented with Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Mithun Chakravarty in his new action thriller film.

In the film Imran Khan’s did not find luck in his life. He tried other things and when he tried to experiment with risky tasks he tried to work with Sanjay Dutt who was a mafia don in the film to make money. Sanjay Dutt wanted to revolutionize the betting industry.

In India the gambling and betting industry had been active for the last 30 years. From cricket to politics the industry had gambled with different subjects and the gamblers either had made money or ended up being paupers. For Sanjay Dutt life is another name for gambling and he found no fault in ascertaining his luck through gambling.

Sanjay Dutt brought people from different parts of the world who had luck on their own side. He tested their luck to fulfill him aim relating to obtaining huge sum of money. The story revolves around the mystery as to how Imran Khan can get away from the trap created by Sanjay Dutt. The other characters in the film who got involved in the entire plan of action include Mithun Chakravarty, Danny, Shruti Hassan (daughter of Kamal Hassan), Ravi Kissen and others.

Sanjay Dutt was brilliant in the film in the role of mafia don Mussa, just like other action films. Mithun Chakravarty in his role of Retired Colonol Veer Pratap Singh used his experience in bollywood films to portray his reserve character. Imran Khan was outstanding in his role of Ram Mehra. He exhibited his confusion in the early part of the film very well and then substantiated it with confidence. Danny was brilliant as well.

Viewers will enjoy the performance of Shruti Hassan, who was impressive too. Ravi Kissen and Rati Agnihotri did well in their respective roles. The music of Salim Sulaiman was impressive with the hit song “aasma”.

On the whole the film should do very good business.

Happy birthday to Saira Banu.

Happy birthday to Saira Banu.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Saira Banu on 13th August, 2009. She used to be called beauty-queen of the 60s. Acting was there in her blood with her mother Nasim Banu doing well in many films in the 40s.

Saira Banu started her career with the film Junglee opposite Shammi Kapoor in 1961. The brilliant music of Shankar Jaikishan given in the film and exotic locations of Jammu and Kashmir flabbergasted the audience in the early 60s. All the songs in the film were super hit including “suku suku”, “meri yaar shabba khair”, “ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar”, “Kashmir ki kali hun mai”, to name a few.

Saira Banu went on to give hit after hit with Biswajeet and Joy Mukherjee as well. With Biswajeet her film April Fool became super hit. The songs of SJ again created storm including “april fool banaya”, “aa gale lag jaa”, etc. With Joy Mukherjee Saira Banu’s film Shagird stormed box-office in 1967. All the songs of Rafi and Lata were hits including “dil vil pyar vyar”, “woh hai zara khafa khafa”, “o bare miya diwane”, “duniya mehfil hai”, etc.

Saira Banu’s combination with Rajender Kumar was well accepted by the audience. All the three films opposite Jubilee Kumar including Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Aman and Jhuk Gaya Aasman became super hit. The songs of all those films composed by SJ again struck box-office. Prominent songs included “o priya kaun hai jo sapno me aya”, “tum khamseen ho”, “kahan chal diye”, “surahidar garden”, etc. Saira Banu balanced the powerful performance of Rajender Kumar in those films.

After marrying Dilip Kumar, Saira Banu acted in a number of films opposite him including Sagina, Gopi and Bairaag, most of which did well in the box-office. Her films with Raj Kapoor titled Diwana and Dev Anand titled Par Muhabbat did good business mainly due to hit music of Shankar Jaikishan. The songs of those films including “ai sanam jisne tujhe chaand si surat di hai”, “dil ki awaz khuda khair Karen” still remain the landmarks of Indian film music. Even Saira Banu’s comedy films like Parosan opposite Sunil Dutt, Kishore Kumar and Mehmood did brilliant business.

From the mid-70s Saira Banu faded away from the industry before acting in films opposite Big B like Zameer and Hera Pheri. The viewers expect her to contribute in bollywood films in character roles again.

Mallika Sherawat in 2008.

Mallika Sherawat in 2008.

Mallika Sherawat had established herself as one of the leading actresses of bollywood films in the last 5 years. She had initially started as an actress who could give bold performances.

Her films like Khwaish had the bold character of Mallika embedded in them. But with the film Pyar Ka Side Effects with Rahul Bose she proved her worth as an actress who could portray diverse characters. She portrayed the role of a soft-spoken girl in the film Myth with Jackie Chan. Although the film did not have lot of dialogues, Mallika’s brief presence was appreciated by big section of viewers.

Mallika’s comedy instincts were exhibited in the films Maan Gaye Mughal-I-Azam and Welcome. Maan Gaye Mughal-I-Azam had intellectual comedy with Rahul Bose and Paresh Rawal. Mallika’s timing did work in the film in the role of the wife of Paresh Rawal, a play actor. In Welcome Mallika falsely portrayed herself to be the wife of Akshay Kumar to stop her marriage with Katrina Kaif.

In 2008, both the films of Mallika Sherawat, including Maan Gaye Mughal-I-Azam and Ugly Aur Paagli did good business. In Ugli Aur Paagli she played the role of the wife of Ranbir Shorey. Their relationship was based on the quarrel with each other. She just went hitting slaps after slaps and gave an ultimate kiss to Ranbir Shorey.

Mallika Sherawat’s success in 2008 gave her the role in the film Dasavatharam opposite Kamal Hassan in 2009. Kamal Hassan played ten characters in the film and Mallika performed as well as Asin in the film.

In 2009, Mallika is expected to continue her improvement in acting and do even better and entertain the crowds.

Review of the film Sankat City.

Review of the film Sankat City.

Sankat City had been one of the action thrillers released in 2009. It was a serio-comic film where the viewers could not realize what happened next. It was directed by Pankaj Advani while Anubhav Sinha produced the film. The music was composed by Ranjit Barot. KK Menon played the role of a petty car thief. Dilip Prabhawalkar, who had a shabby garage was his friend.

Both of them had good partnership. While KK Menon used to steal the cars, the cars were given a fresh treatment to make them saleable. Dilip Prabhawalker did that in his garage and sold the cars and both of them shared the profits among themselves.

One day KK Menon stole a Mercedes Car near a brothel. After stealing the car he brought the car to the garage of his friend for servicing as usual. Both of them recovered one crore rupees within the car. But they never realized that the money was kept by a leading gangster Anupam Kher.

The plans of KK Menon got messed up when he sold the car to Rahul Dev, who was a close friend of Anupam Kher. He informed Anupam Kher about the stealing operation. After that Anupam Kher send his men to collect the money that was there in the car.

Dilip Prabhawalkar kept the money in a safe place in the garage. He knew there would be problem relating to the money, as the amount was too big. But within short time he met with an accident and lost his memory. KK Menon could not return the money back to Anupam Kher as he never knew where his friend had kept it. Anupam Kher gave him 3 days to return the money.

Then KK Menon teamed up with Rimi Sen and found a way out after communicating with a builder. The film finished as a thriller, but most of the events were shown through comedy sequences. Other than Anupam Kher and KK Menon, Chunkey Pandey also did well in his short role.

The film has elements of entertainment and will appeal to the crowds.

Happy birthday to Rakhee

Happy birthday to Rakhee.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Rakhee on 15th August, 2009. She had contributed in bollywood films for more than 30 years. She had contributed both as a leading actress and also as a character actress.

Rakhee came to limelight with her successful film Sharmilee opposite Shashi Kapoor in the early 70s. The songs of the film composed by SD Burman became very successful, including the songs “khilte hai dil yahan”, “megha chaye aadhi raat”, etc. Rakhee played a double role and created attention.

In the mid-70s Rakhee acted in landmark roles including the one in the film Kabhi Kabhi opposite Big B and Shashi Kapoor. She loved a poet played by Big B, but had to marry Shashi Kapoor. The poetry of Big B created a great impact in the life of Rakhee. The songs of Mukesh and Lata composed by Khayyam in the film including “mai pal do pal ka shayar hoon” and “kabhi kabhi mere dil me” made the viewers spellbound.

Rakhee acted in many landmark films opposite Big B including Shakti Shamanta’s Bengali film Anusandhan, hindi film Barsaat Ki Ek Raat, Kala Patthar, Kasme Wade, etc. In the early 80s Rakhee played the role of her lifetime opposite Dilip Kumar in the film Shakti. She played the role of the mother of Big B, who faced the hostility between Dilip Kumar and Big B, one being the protector of law, while the other being the lawbreaker. The film became super hit. Rakhee was equally sublime in the film Shaan opposite Sunil Dutt. She beared the killing of her husband by the enemies and fought the battle against evil with Big B, Shashi Kapoor and Shatrughun Sinha.

In the 90s, Rakhee played many character roles in films like Anil Kapoor’s Ram Lakhan, Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan’s Karan Arjun, Bobby Deol’s Soldier, to name a few. She had acted in more than 100 films and continues to act in many contemporary films.

Review of the film Life Partner

Review of the film Life Partner

life-partner
Govinda tested his fortunes in the film Life Partner along with Tushar Kapoor and Fardeen Khan. Director Rumy Jaffery had taken veteran artists and did not experiment with the new comers in the film.

In the film Fardeen Khan had affair with Genelia Desouza. But they never knew whether marriage itself could have cemented the relationship between the two of them. Fardeen Khan’s friend Tushar Kapoor had a different approach in life.

For Tushar Kapoor, arranged marriage had better social recognition than love marriage. He came to know Prachi Desai, but wanted to marry her only if there was approval of her parents and relatives about the marriage. For him understanding between the husband and the wife were not enough for long term bond which could be restored only through the blessings of the relatives of both the spouses.

life-partner
Govinda played the role of a lawyer who specialized in cases relating to separation. Suits relating to divorces attracted him more than any other cases. He did not believe in the institution of marriage. He meant that the institution of marriage depended on the relationship between the two spouses. If either of them never wanted to compromise, there was no logic for the other spouse to compromise just for maintaining the marital relationship.

The film revolved around the story of the three friends in achieving their goals with their related ideologies. Govinda did well as usual. The script was not strong enough for Tushar Kapoor and Fardeen Khan.

life-partner
Genelia Desouza did well, but she did not look as gorgeous as Jane Tu Ya Jane Na. In a nutshell the film has ingredients of entertainment, but cannot address the demands of every type of viewers. The film may do average business. The story is not that innovative to make the film superhit.

Songs in Katrina Kaif's films.

Songs in Katrina Kaif’s films

katrina kaif
Katrina Kaif had remained the uncrowned queen of bollywood films in the last 5 years. One of the reasons for the immense success of her films included the brilliant songs that she had got over the last 5 years.

katrina kaif
She gave excellent lips in the songs of the film Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya opposite Salman Khan. All the songs in the film became super hit including “just chill chill”, “laga laga laga”, “yeh larki lutke man mera le gayi”, etc. The exotic locations and the beauty of Katrina made the viewers mad. She even did better than Sushmita Sen and Isha Kopikaar who were much senior than her.

All her songs in the film Namaste London became super hit. The songs were composed by Himesh Reshamiya. The songs of the film Welcome opposite Ashay Kumar also became super hit. The hit songs included “welcome”, “hoont rasile”, “inshah allah”, to name a few.

katrina kaif
The songs of Katrina’s film Race also became super hit. The hit songs included “zara zara kiss me”, “pehli nazar me aisa jadoo kar diya”, “race”, etc., all stormed the market in 2008. In the same film Katrina did outcast Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy with her brilliant performance.

Katrina’s songs in the film Yuvraaj became superhit inspite of the film doing mediocre business. The songs like “muskura”, “shanno shanno”, “tu mera dost hai” composed by AR Rehman were romantic, innovative and lovable. May be the film made by Subhash Ghai was too long and the audience lost their patience. Otherwise the songs were excellent.

katrina kaif
Katrina’s songs in the film New York were equally impressive. The viewers expect similar type of melodious songs in Katrina’s new films to come and want her to give excellent lips in them. The viewers provide their best wishes to Katrina in the films Blue and other films to follow.

Can Kaminey change the fortunes of Priyanka Chopra?

Can Kaminey change the fortunes of Priyanka Chopra?

Priyanka Chopra was the leading actress of bollywood films in 2008. She not only acted in more than 5 years in 2008, but also received the filmfare award for the best actress for her performance in the film Fashion.

The films in which she had acted in the last year include Love Story 2050, Chamku, Fashion, Dostana, etc. Some of the films did extraordinary business, while the other ones flopped last year. But her performance in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion appealed before the commercial audience as well as the critics. But things change a lot in a year or so in bollywood films.

None of her films were released in 2009, before Kaminey. In 5 or 6 months the viewers forget the good work of the number one actress of the previous year and look for a new actress to fill the number one slot. In that respect Priyanka Chopra’s challenge to maintain the number one spot is great.

In Kaminey, she had acted opposite Shahid Kapoor who had played a double role. One of the twin brothers were involved in unlawful activities while the other was happy doing corporate job. Priyanka Chopra adapted herself to the requirement of the film just like in the past. The music of the film was has been very popular. The film has all the possibility of becoming a blockbuster.

It is possible for Priyanka Chopra to maintain the number one spot, although Katrina Kaif can return back with success in the film Blue. For the early part of the year, Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor were winners with the films New York and Kambaqth Ishq respectively.

Let us hope with the increase in competition all these actresses give their best and entertain the viewers in the year 2009.

Riya Sen remained a mediocre actress.

Riya Sen remained a mediocre actress.

Riya Sen, the granddaughter of famous actress Suchitra Sen, remained a very mediocre actress even after being in the bollywood industry for more than 10 years. She was born as the daughter of Moon Moon Sen in 1981.

Her film career started in 1991 as a child artist in the film Vishkanya. In 2001 she acted in the film Style. Her experience as model helped her in getting offers in bollywood films. After acting in films like Jhankar Beats, she got a prominent role in David Dhawan’s comedy film Shaadi No. 1 in 2005.

Shaadi No. 1 was a comedy film in which Riya Sen along with two other girls lured Fardeen Khan, Zaid Khan and his friend and had an affair with them. The wives of all these women complained about the activities of their husbands to Sanjay Dutt. Sanjay Dutt compelled Riya Sen and the other girlfriends to leave Fardeen Khan and company as their marital life was getting disturbed. David Dhawan’s comedy treatment entertained the viewers.

She also got a small role in the film Heroes with Sohail Khan. Sohail Khan and his friend made a video film on real life stories of heroes who had sacrificed their lives for the nation. After seeing the lives of Salman Khan, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Mithun Chakravarthy the two students including Sohail Khan got transformed. The music of the film was equally impressive.

But if her career is compared with Suchitra Sen, then she had remained only a mediocre actress. Suchitra Sen was called by Bimal Roy, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Asit Sen, Gulzar to act in landmark films. Most of her films remained landmarks in bollywood films history including Devdas, Musafir, Bombai Ka Babu, Mamta, Aandhi, to name a few. She even portrayed the character of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film Aandhi.

Riya Sen should act in prominent roles of popular directors to get recognition and also improve her acting.

Happy birthday to Gulzar.

Happy birthday to Gulzar.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to legendary director and lyricist Gulzar on 18th August, 2009. He had been one of the greatest living legends at this moment. Bollywood is indebted to thoughtful director who had converted filmmaking into work of art.

His film Mausam was based on reflections of mind. Sanjeev Kumar was attached with Sharmila Tagore living in Darjeeling when he came over there as a student. After he went abroad to pursue his post-graduate studies, Sharmila was exploited and her daughter how looked identical like her mother was compelled to join prostitution.

Sanjeev Kumar returned as a foreign-return doctor and took his daughter away from the surroundings and gave her a new life. Bhupinder Singh’s ghazal “dil dhoonta hai phir wohi” composed by Madan Mohan and written by Gulzar remains as the greatest ghazal created in the 70s. The story-telling in the film was appreciated by critics.

Gulzar created a different dimension by experimented with classic literature during the 70s and 80s. His films Aandhi with Suchitra Sen and Sanjeev Kumar and Kinara with Jeetender and Hema Malini can very well be classified as master pieces. He gave very meaningful sequences where songs were recorded. He created a separate fanclub for himself who could understand human relations at the same period when larger than life images were created in main stream cinema of Big B, Vinod Khanna, Shatrughun Sinha and other angry young men in films like Sholay, Kalicharan, Burning Train, etc.

Gulzar’s films created for children like Parichay and Kitaab are still considered masterpieces. He was impressed by the thoughts of Hollywood film Sound of Music and Uttam Kumar’s Joyjoyanti to make a film related to five children who required a good teacher. Jeetender treated them with compassion and brought change in the children. In Kitaab, Uttam Kumar cared for his brother-in-law Master Raju who was a small child and had been send by her mother to get educated in urbanized background.
Gulzar experimented with so many diverse subjects that articles after articles can be devoted to his different themes, including the film Koshish, based on life of deaf and dumb, Lekin, based on folklore of Rajasthan. All his artists like Suchitra Sen, Jaya Bacchan, Sharmila Tagore, Uttam Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Jeetender portrayed the life of middle-class men who were found in everyday life.

His composers, Jaidev, Madan Mohan, Khayyam, RD Burman all had given their best music for the thoughtful director. These days Gulzar concentrates more on writing lyrics. In that field too he had been master of masters.

His admirers expect him to continue to make rich films which makes the audience think, feel and reflect on the happiness and sniffles of life.

Happy birthday to David Dhawan.

Happy birthday to David Dhawan.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to David Dhawan on 16th August, 2009. He had been a master entertainer. He had entertained the viewers with comedy films one after the other.

David Dhawan had experimented the most with successful actors Govinda and Salman Khan. Salman Khan featured in his film Biwi No. 1. In that film Salman Khan had a responsible wife Karishma Kapoor and also had an affair with Sushmita Sen. Anil Kapoor and Tabu leaked out the affair before Karishma Kapoor. It had led to unrest in the family. When Salman tried to live with Sushmita she failed to take care of his children and relatives. So the indispensability of Karishma Kapoor was felt. The music of Anu Malik was excellent. The songs “chunari chunari”, “ishq sona hai” became landmark hits in the 90s.

Govinda had featured in a number of films of David Dhawan. His comedy andaz had made the viewers spellbound. Govinda’s film Hero No. 1 was super hit. His combination with Karishma Kapoor was excellent. Govinda’s other film Cooli No. 1 was equally successful.

David Dhawan had success in the last year with the film Partner where both Salman Khan and Govinda featured. The film was based on the influence of a love-guru on the person had affair with a rich girl but never knew the art of impressing her. Govinda was attached to Katrina Kaif. Govinda was a middle-class person, so had to take lessons from Salman Khan to impress Katrina. Everything happened with comedy andaz. Salman Khan fell in love with Lara Dutta but had to accept her son before marrying her. The music of the film was extremely successful with songs like “do you want a partner”, “you are my love”, etc.

David Dhawan had released the tension of regular life of Indian viewers with his comedy films. The viewers expect him to continue the good work in the years to come.

Happy birthday to Manisha Koirala.

Happy birthday to Manisha Koirala.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Manisha Koirala on 16th August, 2009. She was the leading actress of the 90s and played important roles opposite all the leading actors of bollywood films.

She attracted the attention of the directors with her first performance in Subhash Ghai’s film Saudagar. She was excellent in the film 1942 – A Love Story opposite Anil Kapoor. The film ended up being musical blockbuster with RD Burman’s composition “pyar hua chupkese”, “ek larki ko dekha”, “kuch na kaho” becoming landmark hits. Manisha’s soft romantic performance balanced the all round performance of Anil Kapoor.

Manisha Koirala continued her romantic performance in other films like Akele Hum Akele Tum opposite Amir Khan, Yalgaar with Sanjay Dutt, Champion opposite Suny Deol. The songs of all these films did great business.

Manisha Koirala also played important roles in experimental films like Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Lajja. Her performance was author-backing performance of an observer of ill-treatment of women in different parts of the world. Her soft performance balanced the cruel attitude of Jackie Shroff in the film.

Manisha Koirala was sublime in her performance opposite Shahrukh Khan in the film Dil Se. Mani Ratnam experimented with terrorist activities in the North East in the film Dil Se. Manisha Koirala played the role of the terrorist in the film and died at the end of the film with a suicide operation which killed Shahrukh Khan too.

Critics feel that Manisha Koirala still has lot of acting left in her. Her dancing skills and acting skills still qualify her to make a comeback in bollywood films and compete with the leading stars like Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and others.

Happy birthday to Sunil Shetty.

Happy birthday to Sunil Shetty.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to Sunil Shetty on 11th August 2009. Although he started his career as an action star, especially in the film Balwaan, he proved his capability in every type of role very gradually.

His combination with Akshay Kumar had been considered very grand and both the actors had given many colourful hits during their illustrious career. Mohra was a big hit. There Sunil Shetty played the role of the anti-hero who was dictated terms by Naseeruddin Shah, while Akshay Kumar played the role of an honest police-officer. Their film Dhadkan opposite Shilpa Shetty did great business. Sunil Shetty received the filmfare award for the best villain for his brilliant performance in the film. The songs in the film were extremely successful and both the stars gave brilliant lips in those songs.

Sunil Shetty started a new chapter with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal in his career in respect of comedy films with the film Hera Pheri. Three of them acted brilliantly in the film Hera Pheri along with Tabu and other actors. The film became so successful that the director Priya Darshan was compelled to make a sequel of the film with the title Phir Hera Pheri. It became super hit too. In this film Bipasha Basu played a very significant role along with the three musketeers. The third sequel of Hera Pheri is under production at the moment.

Sunil Shetty also acted in great patriotic films like Border. JP Dutta’s blockbuster utilized the acting skills of Sunil Shetty, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff and Akshay Khanna. The songs in the film composed by Anu Malik created history with Sonu Nigam doing a great job with “sandese ate hai”. His other hit films include Hu Tu Tu opposite Tabu, Krishna opposite Karishma Kapoor, etc.

In 2009 he is also looking forward to the release of the film Blue along with Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar. The viewers provide their best wishes for the success of Blue and Sunil Shetty’s other films in future.

Akshay Kumar is looking forward to Blue.

Akshay Kumar is looking forward to Blue

akshay-kumar
Akshay Kumar, the most popular actor of bollywood films in the recent times, had an ordinary year till now. His big budget film Chandni Chowk To China did very ordinary business. His other film 8*10 Tasveer was also appreciated but the film did not end up with great profits.

He banged back with the success of the film Kambakht Ishq with Kareena Kapoor. The film became super hit and brought back part of the stardom which Akshay Kumar enjoyed in the last year. In fact in the last few years his combination with Katrina Kaif had been considered the most lucky combination in terms of success of films.

Happy birthday to Sri Devi

Happy birthday to Sri Devi

Sri-devi
The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to evergreen actress Sri Devi on 13th August, 2009. She was the most dominating figure in bollywood films in the 80s. Her excellent dancing skills gave her an edge over other actresses of that period.

She was brilliant in the film Himmatwala opposite Jeetender. The film was a South Indian production and the dancing skills of both Sri Devi and Jeetender mesmerized the viewers. The music of the film was also very popular. Sri Devi got a landmark role in Feroz Khan’s film Jaanbaaz. She played the role of the wife of Jeetender who was given drugs forcefully by Shakti Kapoor, Raza Murad and their men. She died due to consumption of the drugs. Feroz Khan along with Anil Kapoor took revenge against her brutal killing.

Sri-devi
Sri Devi’s combination with Anil Kapoor was appreciated by the viewers of the 80s. Their film Mr. India, directed by Shekhar Kapoor became everlasting hit. Sri Devi displayed her comedy skills as against the innocent performance of Anil Kapoor in the film. Anil Kapoor’s device for becoming invisible amazed the viewers. Amrish Puri was matchless in his performance in the role of Mogambo.

Big B acted in many films opposite Sri Devi including Inquilab, Akhree Rasta and others. Most of those films ended up being blockbusters. Sri Devi gave many hits opposite Rishi Kapoor including Yash Rash film Chandni. Even then viewers considered Anil Kapoor the best combination opposite Sri Devi. Their superhit films included Laadla, Lamhe, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, and others.

Sri Devi had a fantastic career in South Indian films as well. Her performance in films opposite Rajnikant and Kamal Hassan became super hit in the 8os. She acted in hit bollywood films opposite Rajnikant like Chaalbaaz where she played a double role.

Sri-devi
With the domination of Madhuri Dixit in bollywood films in the 90s, Sri Devi faded away from the film arena. Besides she added weight after marrying Boney Kapoor. The viewers expect her to make a comeback soon in character roles.

Happy birthday to Vaijayantimala.

Happy birthday to Vaijayantimala.

The viewers of bollywood films wish happy birthday to dancing queen Vaijayantimala on 13th August, 2009. She had ruled bollywood films during the 50s and 60s, during an age when muslim actresses like Nargis, Madhubala, Meena Kumari rocked silver screen. She was the first South Indian actress to create a sensation in bollywood films and paved the way for other South Indian actresses to follow like Hema Malini, Sri Devi, Jaya Prada, Meenakshi Sheshadri, and others.

Her online chemistry with Tragedy King Dilip Kumar created history in bollywood. Most of their films including Devdas, Naya Daur, Madhumati, Paigham, Ganga Jumna, Leader, Sunghursh ended up being blockbusters. Besides dancing, she was sublime in the role of a tawaif in Bimal Roy’s film Devdas, in the role of village girl in Bimal Roy’s Madhumati. Probably Madhumati marks the best performance of Vaijayantimala in her entire career. Her innocence reflected in her acting and she made the audience spellbound with the lips given in songs composed by Salil Choudhury including “aa ja re pardesi”, “ghari ghari mera dil dharke”, “daiya re daiya re”, etc. She received the filmfare award for the best actress for the brilliant performance in the film.

On one hand she was brilliant opposite Dilip Kumar, on the other hand she created sensation with Raj Kapoor as well. Their film Nazrana did mediocre business. But Sangam was probably one of the biggest hits of Raj Kapoor in his entire life. Vaijayantimala’s stylish performance opposite both Raj Kapoor and Rajender Kumar created a benchmark which could hardly be reached. Sangam still remains one of the most landmark films based on triangular love story shot at exotic locations in London, Paris, and other European countries. Shankar Jaikishan was matchless in Sangam. The acting performance was excellent and she received the filmfare award for the best actress once again.

In the 60s, Vaijayantimala was matchless. Her name was enough to make any film hit. The list of her films include Nagin opposite Pradeep Kumar, Suraj opposite Rajender Kumar, Amrapali opposite Sunil Dutt, Prince opposite Shammi Kapoor, Choti Si Mulakat opposite Uttam Kumar, Jewel Thief opposite Dev Anand, Pyar Hi Pyar opposite Dharmender, to name a few. In fact her combination with Rajender Kumar and Shankar Jaikishan created sensation in the 60s. All their films ended up being silver jubilees including Aas Ka Panchi, Suraj, Sangam, Zindagi, etc. Besides her standard of classical dancing in films like Katputli or Amrapali had created interest among viewers to appreciate aesthetic dance numbers which became an art in due period of time.

Her films should be restored and preserved.

Gulshan Bawra's death is painful for music-lovers in India.

Gulshan Bawra’s death is painful for music-lovers in India.

The music lovers all across India mourn the death of legendary lyricist Gulshan Bawra, who died on 7th August, 2009, at the age of 72 years. He had died his heart failure.

Although his involvement in lyrics of bollywood films is related to less number of songs if compared with the dynamism of Shakeel Badayani, Hasrat Jaipuri, Shailendra, Sahir Ludhiyanvi, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Kaifi Azmi and others, his words were very meaningful and his work was appreciated by elite section of the society. Born in 1937, he came to Bombay as a railway clerk in the 50s and showed his talent as a lyricist in due time.

His song “tumhe yaad hoga kabhi hum milethe” sung by Hemant Kumar and Lata in Balraj Sahani’s film Satta Bazar gave him recognition. He received filmfare award for the best lyricist for his brilliant composition “mere desh ki dharti”, sung by Mahendra Kapoor and composed by Kalyanji Anandji in the film Upkaar in 1967. Manoj Kumar’s epic film won most of the awards that year and Gulshan Kumar gave his best for the epic film. He had a great combination with Kalyanji Anandji and for them he wrote different types of songs including patriotic songs, romantic numbers, tragic numbers, etc.

He again got filmfare award for the best lyrics written for the song “yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi” for the film Zanjeer. It was sung by legendary singer Manna Dey and composed by Kalyanji Anandji. Gulshan Bawra also acted in the film and gave lips in a song sung by Rafi.

His other hit songs included “kasme wade nibhayenge hum” and “aati rahegi baharen” in the film Kasme Wade, composed by RD Burman, “wada karle saajna” from the film Haath Ki Safai, and many other songs.

He faded away from the industry after the emergence of new lyricists in the 1990s. But his works were very meaningful and unique. His songs should be preserved.

Will Saif Ali Khan be successful as producer?

Will Saif Ali Khan be successful as producer?

saif-ali-khan
If the history of bollywood films had been looked into it will be seen that many actors and actresses got involved in production of films after being in the profession for substantial period of time. Some of the them had succeeded while others stopped production due to lack of success.

Raj Kapoor and Guru Dutt started their careers with productions of their own. They also knew the art of direction. So they don’t fall within this category. In fact their standards as producers were so high that their best acting lies in their production. Directors like Hrishikesh Mukherjee or Mehboob Khan or Pacchi could not utilize Raj Kapoor in the manner he utilized himself in films like Awara, Shree 420, or Sangam, etc. Guru Dutt was at his best in films like Pyaasa or Aar Par or Mr. and Mrs. 55, all under his own production.

saif-ali-khan
In respect of actor turned producers list Shahrukh Khan had mixed responses. Dreams Unlimited developed by Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla did great business in films like Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, but again did mediocre business in other films as well. Anil Kapoor started production few years back. He had success with films like Shortcut, but still his films had not done great business if compared with the hit films of his brother Boney Kapoor who had hit films including No Entry, Hamara Dil Aapke Pass Hai.

Saif Ali Khan had started his career as producer with the film Love Aaj Kal. The film has all the elements of a hit film. With the performance of Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, the viewers are also enthusiastic about its performance. Saif Ali Khan had taken a great decision in casting himself in the main role which releases the pressure of a producer.

saif-ali-khan
But it is too early to foretell that Saif Ali Khan will be a successful producer. There are reasons for making such statement. It had been seen in the past that even eminent producers failed to understand the pulse of the viewers. Their tastes were changing and good producers and directors had both the taste of hit and flop films. Shakti Samanta started giving flops in the 70s like Pagla Kahin Ka or Jane Anjane, inspite of using Shammi Kapoor who had given super hit films in the 60s like Kashmir Ki Kali or An Evening in Paris.
